Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 2nd

ok, I'm over the guilties, I ran 3miles Monday and Tuesday, 4 on Thursday, usual cross training all week long and 8 miles today!!!!

My first outside run off of a track, temp was 68 and the wind was fierce! and of course I had to pick a course that had HILLS. I just kept remembering all that I have learned from all of you, I may only post once a week but I read everything! When I drove my route it didn't seem that bad but this was the hardest run I have ever done, but I didn't walk. Time was poor 1:29:29.

Congrats to all who raced!

Chuck, I'm very jelous about the white sand, I love Florida and the white sand is so fantastic.

Rodeo Run pics was great! was nice to put faces with names.

I'm running a 5K on Saturday and then a 4 mile fun run the following Saturday.

Good running to all,

Stephanie2

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 2nd
Hey Peg - you deserve a rest and the retail therapy - shopping is valid cross training - walking - lifting weights ( bags ) !!

MissWendy - I hope you had a happy birthday dinner and have a great birthday on Tues. British chocolate - Cadbury ( but make sure you don`t get eh American version - its made under license by Hershey .. blech ) and Galaxy .. Galaxy is the best !!.

Jeff - nice job with that 12 miler ! you must be feeling good !!

runjr . I gotto say there was a good EC showing at the race ! - Lots of NY fire fighters were there .. mmmm :) I even met a very cute guy on the subway on the way to the race - of course if I wasn`t so pathetic at these things in real life I`d have asked for his number ! Oh well - maybe I`ll see him at another race

Mary - you are right Dove will do at a pinch - thankfully I work close to a Lindt store too !

kev - yup not a bad time for me - I was running just under 10mm before my stress fracture - so I`m not back to my old form yet - but I`m getting there - and this was a crowded and hilly course so I would expect it was slower - next weeks 4 miler will be interesting because it will be the exact same course as a few weeks back. Nice 10 miler there - you really have a very consistent pace regardless of distance

Stephanie - that time is not bad at all for 8 miles - especially with hills and wind ! Don`t give yourself such a hard time you are doing great ! good Luck with your races !

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 2nd

Stephanie - way to push through a tough run........NO walking Good job!

MissWendy - You are giving yourself a great present for your bday. 25 miles plus three other workouts.

Runjr - How long did it take you to build to 40mpw?

Kevee - Did it feel odd running when it was not snowing or on ice covered roads. 10 GREAT!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 2nd
I am an insanely competitive person and so I have been agonizing over
my 10 K time. I know that I did not "leave it all on the course" and so
I had to work it out today on the tmill. I did 5 miles in 41:38, which
did something to restore my ego. I know, it's silly!

Chuck-Can't wait to see those pictures. I love white beaches. I hope
the woman that passed out was okay. In my race two people had major
spills. They were away from me, but it convinced me that I dont want to
run another race with 8,575 people!

SpiceGeek-Sounds like your run through other parts of NYC was great. I
love getting to see new places while running. You get a whole other
perspective that you dont get from a car. I would have freaked on the
rat though. Do you have a Garmin? It would be cool to see if your
heartrate when up when you ran past it!

Anney-we are all waiting for SpiceGeek to post a picture of this EC so
we can all vote on if he is worthy of her admiration! Also, I have
noticed that wendy likes to say idk. You probably figured out that is I
Dont Know, but it took me a bit.

Wendy- Are you anywhere near Murray? My BFF grew up there!

Jeff- Im glad to see someone else is obsessive about times and
distances! I hate when I have to downgrade either. LOL on the
questioning your forward-progress in the wind. Been there, thought
that! Great times you are clocking!

Runjr-brrr!

Mary- -4!!!extra brrr!

Kevin- Spoiled??? Moi?
I had this thought today when I was driving to the gym to run. My car
veered off toward the sporting good store to buy a Garmin. I know I
wont get it for my birthday. DH is old school and thinks it is overkill
and kinda silly to need so many specs. I on the other hand, love
gadgets. He likes to tease me about my overreliance on my blackberry,
and laptop...
Anyway, I decided that after my disappointing finish in the 10K, that I
needed to EARN the Garmin. I am creating a set of goals to reach
afterwhich I will happily go buy my Garmin. Im not too spoiled, really.

10 miles? Wow. Can't wait to get there on my long run days.

Steph-great run!! Sounds like you are making a fierce come-back!

Hope you all have a good day tomorrow! I will be resting and trying to
find a summer time half-marathon in someplace wonderful like
California. If you know of any good races in June or July, let me know!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 2nd

Hey all... I'm not having much luck with posting at the moment so hopefully this one gets through to you! I wrote one earlier, but it got lost in the void of the internet!

Sorry i've been MIA, but I wrote a long post Thurs then couldn't send it! Ran out of time as Fri I was going to Nice and then only got back yesterday. I've got the day off today and am sitting in the building site of my new kitchen... not that it's that great to look at right now with holes everywhere!

Missed my run over the weekend as couldn't fit it in at Nice and then was just too tired yesterday when I got home. Am hoping it wont make too much difference as it's the only one i've missed this year... I think trying to make it up today is probably worse than just missing the run... Nice was lovely though and I am now really relaxed and ready for that little run coming up next weekend! I even had a leg massage when I was there!

I'm never going to be able to catch up with all the posts i've missed, but I do want to say congrats to those that raced over the weekend. The photos are fab and it looks like everyone did really well

Happy running all - i've got 4 planned for later but will be taking it nice and easy.

Cara

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 2nd

hey yall

thanks for the bday wishes. for a gift, i received a bag containing 40 dum dum lollipops. the card read: '40 sucks!' ROFL!!!!!!!

jeffrw...great running against the wind....

runjr...i think if i had the time, i could put in more miles. so much is tied to staying in with DS. maybe ill try a run at the park, but it is 1/4 m lap so many times around. i'll bet the brewers hate coming back from spring training to the snow. glad you got out in the nice weather. it is 63 here right now. i will try to run at lunch.

marflair...tiki bar sounds fun. bundle up and keep up the good running...

kevee...great job on 10 miles! rest up

stephanie2...great job getting back on track. when running a route you have previously driven, you really get a sense for the hills! lol!

spicegeek....cant wait to try galaxy. i will be looking. girl, what have you got to lose! get that guys number! invite him to your next race....

andahuff...sorry about the abbreviations! idk why i like that one! lol. im looking for murray. never heard of it, is it in mississippi? garmins are cool. get one. fyi i am spoiled rotten.

chuck...your pic is great, but a little small! sounds like you had a great race!

chamblin...nice must have been fun. hope you are resting up for this weekend. rest a lot is my advice. i think it really does help. try not to be nervous! i think that really had a negative effect on my first hm in dec. this last time i was more rested relaxed and excited and felt much better throughout the run. i think you are going to have a great day!

love to all

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 2nd
good morning all. Nasty weather again today. Temp is okay (28) but windy. Should get an inch or so of snow by tomorrow. Gym night.

kevee - great run on Sunday. That pace was great. You are ready for Green Bay in May.

stephanie - great run with the 8 miles. With the conditions as they were it is even more impressive. Keep it up. You are all set for your race this weekend. Good luck.

spicegeek - I'm going to try another chocolate next time if I am out of shot blocks or sport beans. You are really close to your pace before the injury.

jeff - I say I was running high 20 miles to low 30 miles by late October. From that point is when I got my Garmin and started tracking mileage. I increased too fast and got to 50-55 and had some hip issues. I'd definitely stick with adding 10% per week. I paid for increasing mileage too fast for a while. Right now 40-45 seems right.

andahuff - nothing wrong with having your ego intact. If there is a gadget I have to have it as well. I don't recall reading this or not but did you use your IPOD for the race?

cara - great to have you back.

misswendy - don't even think of the extra miles. Staying with DS is the most important. Happy Birthday. Welcome to the 40's, they are not too bad at all.

take care all.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 2nd

Wendy- Im sorry. I thought you were in Kentucky! I guess I got it all mixed up with the basketball discussion. You have a great attitude about your big birthday! What is it they say? 40 is the new 20?

Runjr-Thanks for supporting my self-indulgent run yesterday. I did not run with my iPod in the race. I have mixed feelings about it. I feel like I would have missed a lot of the joy of the big families on their porches with cow bells. They were yelling encouragement in Spanish. I know it helps me at times, but I really want to train myself to know my pace. Of course my playlist is much cooler than Joe's so I probably should have taken it! LOL

Joe-Here is what I probably would have run with if I had taken it.

Ode to a Butterfly- Nickel Creek

Run-Eric Clapton

Because I'm Awesome-Dollyrots

Push It-DeLorean

Tush- Missy Elliott

Dont Bring Me Down- E.L.O.

Running on Sunshine-Jesus Jackson

Anyone else wanna share their favorite part of their playlist? Im adding to mine today.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 2nd

TRAVEL IS TOUGH!!

I was home Friday and go back out Tues night to come back on Friday again this week. I did do two 4m runs (TM ugh) and then 6m on Sunday. I am thinking about doing the ING 1/2 on March 30th. I will be at my 10th week of the 12 week training program so what do you guys think? This would be my first 1/2.....

I skipped the happy hour last week and plan do the same this week;) It makes getting on that TM so much easier. Thanks for all of the advice and comments.
