C25K~WEEK 7~ 3/3-3/9 ~ TRAILBLAZERS!

Wow, we are rockin' this program! Great job everybody. Welcome to Week 7 - the week full of what else? Running, of course!!

What's on tap this week:
Brisk five-minute warmup walk, then

  • jog 2.5 miles (or 25 minutes).*
Brisk five-minute warmup walk, then

  • jog 2.5 miles (or 25 minutes).*
Brisk five-minute warmup walk, then

  • jog 2.5 miles (or 25 minutes).*

I really think this is the make or break week. It will be hard, we will be sore. But our bodies will recover, and we'll be ready to go for Week 8 and Graduation Week!!!!

Re: C25K~WEEK 7~ 3/3-3/9 ~ TRAILBLAZERS!

I can not believe how quickly we've gotten to Week 7! And how well this program prepares you for it. Oh, yes, it will be hard, but it will be so worth it. I agree, this is the make or break week. When we make it through this week, we are RUNNERS! Week 8 and 9 is just adding a little more time/distance.

I did W7D1 this morning. No, it wasn't easy, but it never entered my mind to stop running. I may have slowed down, but that's ok. My legs felt like lead when I was done, but they're fine now. And I've noticed that the "bone pain" I used to get in my shins isn't there anymore. That's a big deal to me! Good luck all, I know we can do it.

Re: C25K~WEEK 7~ 3/3-3/9 ~ TRAILBLAZERS!
I did it! W6D3 that is. I'm now on track for week 7.

This morning I was going to run around the neighborhood, but then I started thinking, "How can I learn to run that trail if I don't run it?" So I went to the trail that kicked my butt yesterday and I have to say I kicked its butt today!! I did the whole 25 minutes. I kept telling myself to run it without expectations. I can stop and rest at any time. Well, when I was 15 minutes in, I started to think maybe I could finish. I had to keep telling myself to slow down especially on the hills and just breathe. I also had a bigger breakfast today. I had some leftover quiche. I think that helped too. I started getting The Stitch at about 20 minutes, but I knew I could deal with it and work through it. I can't tell you the sense of accomplishment I have.

I also want to mention that I see this runner guy there a lot. I swear he does the trail twice (6.4 miles). Today we passed each other and said hi. I felt like 'here are two runners acknowledging each other.'

Jordzmom, did you ever think you'd be able to run this long at stretch without stopping? It's unbelievable. This program really does work. I remember having such a hard time doing one minute intervals and looking at my watch constantly.

It sounds like your legs are getting used to it. Mine aren't hurting so much either. I had some bone pain around my knees that felt black and blue to the touch. They are getting better. They're not any worse and that's a good sign.

I rewarded myself by going to Target today and buying a wicking running top for warmer weather (it's bound to get here sooner or later). I also found a nice wicking track suit for half price! I had to get it.

Good luck everybody on week 7. I don't know how I'm going to do, but I'm going to keep plodding along.

Re: C25K~WEEK 7~ 3/3-3/9 ~ TRAILBLAZERS!

I would never have imagined in a million years that I'd be running for 25 minutes. Sure, I'm still a little huffy-puffy and I'm not sure I'd be able to carry on much of a conversation, and I'm pretty slow, but I'm DOING it! It really is an amazing program. That's pretty cool about the guy on the trail. Funny how these little things seem to make such a difference. Now, you know you finished 25 minutes once, you can do it again. And you kicked that trails butt.

Re: C25K~WEEK 7~ 3/3-3/9 ~ TRAILBLAZERS!
Aaagh! I'm now a whole week behind!! Did W5D3 last tuesday and nothing since. DH was away pretty much all last week and we had one thing after another on at the weekend so no time for running. I know I'll catch up but when I read about people doing their W6D3 I'm like, I wonder will I be able to do it, it seems more reassuring when we are all finding out together that we can (hopefully) do it!! I won't be able to get out today either, but Tuesday was always my original start of the week day so hopefully tomorrow evening will find me up in the gym doing W6D1. I feel so thrilled for you all on week 7, that's week seven of 9, so near the end, can you believe you've done it!!! What an acheivement. Looking forward to catching up with you all so we can "graduate" together!!!

Re: C25K~WEEK 7~ 3/3-3/9 ~ TRAILBLAZERS!

Well, I'm kind of disappointed today. I was planning on waking up early tomorrow and getting w6d3 over with so that I could fit in 2 days of week 7 before sunday, but I can barely even walk right now. I'm also doing a new WT program and they divide things up differently than I'm used to. That meant 45 minutes of leg work ON TOP of my last run. My job is pretty active, and it was all I could do to get through my shift and sit down when I got home.

I might just take some tylenol and tough it out. I really want to run tomorrow! Making myself rest is becoming harder than the actual runs. Guess I'll sleep on it and see where I am after that.

Congrats to you guys for finishing week 6! 25 minutes is making me nervous, but I agree that 25 minutes is a major milestone. If I can do 25, then I can definitely do 28, and then 30. What's 5 more minutes? ;)

Lillyanne, I know you can do it! Stick with it and don't let your doubts get to you. If there's one thing this program's taught me, it's that your body is more adaptable than you know. Hang in there!

Re: C25K~WEEK 7~ 3/3-3/9 ~ TRAILBLAZERS!
W7D2 is in the bag! Thank goodness. I couldn't get out this morning because there was too much ice. so, I took my gear to work and ran after work. It seemed harder - but it could have been because it was a different time of the day, and different terrian than usual. I just mapped it out on mapmyrun.com. My total distance was 3.92 km - that includes the walking portion though - about 1K was the warmup/cool down walk. I must be going faster than I think.... Either that or mapmyrun.com isn't accurate at all.....

W7D1 down, but it was difficult. I dropped my iPod on concrete and broke my headphones about 1/8 mile in, so I had to run the rest of it without music. I was bored and tired and not thrilled to be running, but I completed it in the hope that it will be easier next time.

Re: C25K~WEEK 7~ 3/3-3/9 ~ TRAILBLAZERS!

Thanks for the encouragement Hoshiko!! and you know what, I did manage to get out on monday, did W6D1, and got to gym again last night and did D2. I'll be going again on thursday for D3 and then I can start week 7 on the weekend!! So really I will then only be two days behind my normal schedule, which I will try to catch up next week and will be in week nine on schedule!! Any by the way, you've already done the biggest jump, going from eight minute runs without a stop to 20 mins in week five was the biggest transition of all, you can do 25 mins, of course you can!!! Just watch the aches and pains though, you know the old saying about pain being the body's way of telling you something. Hopefully you are feeling better already.

Good to hear the rest of you are doing so well in your W7 sessions.

Re: C25K~WEEK 7~ 3/3-3/9 ~ TRAILBLAZERS!
Good for you, Lilyanne for getting caught up. It shows how determined you are!

Hoshiko, did you tough it out? You are definitely right about running time - if we can do 20 minutes, what's 5 or 10 more??? 25 hasn't been any harder than 20 - of course, I wouldn't consider the 20 "easy" - at this point it's more a feeling of accomplishment that I actually did it - I may be huffing and puffing and barely poking along, but I'm doing it! Easy will come much, much later.

Re: C25K~WEEK 7~ 3/3-3/9 ~ TRAILBLAZERS!

Ok, if we all want to remember how far we've come let's just pause for a moment to remember when this was a challenge:-

"Brisk five-minute warmup walk. Then alternate 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes. "

That was week 1!!! I started on Jan 15th and that was quite an effort then. Sometimes I can hardly believe we have done this! Now we just have to finish and keep it up for the rest of our lives!!!! and yeah Jordzmom, I'm looking forward to it being easy!!!!

Re: C25K~WEEK 7~ 3/3-3/9 ~ TRAILBLAZERS!

Green, that is my running nightmare. You've gotta be pretty hardcore to stick it out with no music to distract you!

Well, I didn't exactly tough it out. I woke up yesterday morning and it was my knee, my problem right knee that made me quit the program last year that was hurting. So, I iced and rested it, and then today went and did that 25 min run. It was awful, I felt slow and my calves were on fire, but I DID IT, and I'm feeling so good right now that I might go out tomorrow for my w7d1 run. My first outdoor run!

Lillyanne, you go! I knew you could do it. How are you feeling? Very proud of you :)

This group is kicking some major butt! Go us! :D

Re: C25K~WEEK 7~ 3/3-3/9 ~ TRAILBLAZERS!

Way to go, Hoshiko - that sounds like toughing it out to me - you could have decided not to run the next day too, but you didn'. You made the right choice for your knee by resting and icing for sure.

Yeesh, Green, I'm not sure I could have toughed it out without music. I find it so much more distracting to have it. Can your ipod be saved or do you have to get another?

Well, I did D3 this morning and I have to say, it went pretty well. I was actually surprised when he said it was 1/2 over. It hadn't seemed like I was running for that long. Then, I kept making "deals" with myself as I got to the end. If I start the 10th lap, I finish it running, whether he says time is up or not. Ok, you've started the 11th lap, same deal. I ended up doing 12 laps - could have so easily stopped at 11 - he said time is up just after I lapped, but that wasn't the deal I made with myself, so I pushed on for a 12th. Put on "I Run For Life" for that last lap and cool down walk. It was a good run! How many minutes are we looking at next week?????

We're all doing so well! How many of us thought we'd actually be here in just 7 weeks? I certainly didn't think I would be. What an accomplishment. Of course, 12 laps is only 2.88K - so my speed needs some work, but all in good time. One lap of my route is .24K.
