Hiya Chicas/Chicos!
Well, I did it. Finally
got my W4D3 accomplished. I was
concerned that not running in this cold weather would decrease my endurance and
set me back, but I just went really slow and made it. I’m happy; I’m in this for increased
endurance and fitness, and I am making slow progress.
As far as my future plans go, I have signed up for a 5K in
May, and that’s about it. No plans or
desire for a marathon or even half marathon—I just don’t want to spend that
much time training. I think I will be
happy with the level of training it takes to run the occasional 5K, and maybe
some day, a 10K. But I’m in no hurry.
I’m also in no hurry to get finished with OHR. I’m going to take my time, and try to enjoy
the process and benefit from having a structure to follow.
I’m proud of the progress everyone is making. And that goes whether you are zooming through
OHR, or taking it slowly like me. As far
as I am concerned, if you’re staying at one level for a while, that’s just
fine. And if you’re not running much for
now, but thinking about it and checking in regularly—that’s fine too. There’s no hurry if we want to be lifetime
runners. Our overall progress will be
marked by our persistence, not in how perfectly we stick to some schedule!
I’m sorry to hear of the on-going calf pain that Freerunner
and Layla’s DH are experiencing. How
frustrating to be interested in running and to have to have a nagging problem
slow you down! I do know that lots of my
aches and pains disappeared after I had myself fitted with custom
orthotics. They realigned my body in a
way that the parts functioned more naturally.
Vg Runner: what does
it mean to “roll a quad”? Sounds bad,
whatever it is if you broke your leg doing it.
I broke my ankle badly about 10 years ago and am full of plates and
screws. When I first took up running, it
started aching like back when it was a fresh injury. But then I guess it toughened. But I hear you about not considering giving
up running. The difference with me is
that I never asked anyone—maybe I should have!
Anyway, it seems to be working out so far.
Ruralrunner: I’m glad
you checked in! I have had several
running “sabbaticals” along the way, and it’s always kind of hard to get
started again. What works for me is to
just get out there for some kind of run.
Don’t even think about what you did before; just go run. That will get your juices flowing again and
you will soon be back to where you were or better. Persistence!
Anyone interested in doing monthly "virtual 5Ks" to give us something to reach for? I have started doing this on another site. The idea is to make it a group activity, not a race. Everyone reports in their times, and someone collects it and posts it from month to month so you can see your improvement. If anyone wants to try it, I would do the record keeping.
How about the first person to post Sunday starts us a new thread?
Have a good weekend everyone!
