C25K - Week 1 Day 1 (Much Better)

I called Sunday's attempt at starting C25K Week 1 Day 0 because I could only get through 6 jog minutes. I went back at it today, and had no problem at all. In fact, I feel pretty great just from that half-hour.

I think I identified some of my problems in the first attempt:

a) I smoked until Sunday

b) The ground was soft and wet and I had to look at my feet

c) I had to turn every 300 feet or so

d) I was into a strong headwind halfway through

While driving home today I realized the end of my street is flat and has a perfect sidewalk. I used the car and Google maps and determined that I had a 0.2 flat smooth paved loop with very little foot or car traffic. It was almost pleasant to run that route, and I got to see some neighbors I had never seen before.

I have a lot more confidence now that I have a safe extremely convenient venue that I too will be logging multiple miles by mid-May. Good luck to all.

Day 2 went much better than Day 1, YAY!

I live just south of Denver, and I'm 36 and fat and lazy. I actually started getting up off of the couch and working out back in late January. I've tried running a couple of times but I was constantly hurting something or wearing myself out to the point that I just didn't want to continue. I found this program along the podcasts and I think this is tailor made for me. I love what I've read in some of the other groups that are further along and I'm glad to find a couple of people starting at the same time. Tomorrow will be week 1 day 3 for me. I must say that I am really looking forward to getting out there and hitting the road. Now with a group forming here I'm looking forward to it even more.

I'm an overweight, out of shape, 37 year old housewife trying to turn myself
into a healthy and fit runner of races before I turn 40.

Or at least die trying. ;)

Re: C25K - Week 1 Day 1 (Much Better)

One of the big steps for me was making the decision to not buy a new keg for the kegerator. One of my motivations back in January to start getting in shape was the fact that I felt like I was slowly drinking myself to death. I'm not going to say that I have stopped drinking but the amount that I drink has gone from 7 to 12 beers a night to having a couple of drinks of scotch one or two nights a week. I am afraid that the drinking may get out of hand again but I try to be mindful of that and really limit myself.

Lyric, the thought of running in any race is still blowing my mind but I am looking forward to giving one a go in about 9 or 10 weeks.

I like the "take back the stairs" and I think lyric may have hit on something inadvertently, how about "Do it or die trying"?

Running from the doctor---------Perfect. They are always trying to put their fingers where they just don't belong.

LOL! Those all are great!

Hey, Awful Jogger (can I just call you AJ from now on?), good job on the drinking thing.

I quit drinking 3 years ago in January. I know how hard it is.

There is a local race that is held every year in May. Just a 5K, I figured it out that if I started C25K now, I'd be ready to run it this year. That's my goal anyway.
