Re: Weight Watcher Runners March 10-16

Morning,

Everything went well yesterday and now I have five years before I have that kinda fun again - YAY. On today's schedule I have 8-12 miles so I will be aiming at 10. It seems like a nice day outside (30's) and I don't have much else I need to do. DD was asked to play in the state All-Stars game so I have one more chance to see her play on Sunday this week!

Shannon - you ask an interesting question. All my training, first for the half in November and now for the marathon, has been challenging for me. A lot of the challenge has been mental, just getting out the door. I have really enjoyed my long runs that I have done with friends. It has been a great time to chat and it makes the time and miles pass so quickly. Of course we make jokes along the way like "so whose idea was this" and "lets just go out to breakfast" but we get the miles done. My solo runs I enjoy but not as much as my weekend runs with friends. Physically my body has responded well to the training schedule. Before the half I needed physical therapy on my hip to keep running and of course my GI side effects have made distance training interesting! I am glad that I chose to challenge myself to run this distance, but not sure I will do more full marathons. The training is extremely time consuming so I will most likely stick to half marathons for a while. I would never rule out doing it again (as I am sure I will at some point) but I think anyone who has that question mark in their head ?? can I run a marathon ?? Should give it a try. I can't think of much worse things in life than looking back and wondering could I have done this or that. By the way, I think I will be saying oh * * * * at the starting line!! LOL

Life - you give me credit where credit is not due. We ran the 20 and then went out to eat! LOL - No bar although the week before the after party was fun. This week I had yummy baked haddock (and 2 beers), plus a great, fresh salad and baked potato WITH sour cream! Def. earned those calories. After our really long runs that's all we can think about - where are we going for FOOD! My garmin said I had burned 2800 calories running the 20 miles - how sweet is that?? Yes, I am so glad to have the whole medal. It wouldn't be quite the same with only 2 pieces. It is also a nice physical piece to remind me of my solo 20 mile run. Still not sure how I managed to do it so that one actually means more to me than the others which seemed easier in the company of friends.

Happy - glad you are having fun!! Next Spring break I think I need to plan something a little more fun than a colonoscopy! LOL We did get a bit of snow but it melted pretty quick in the afternoon. I do hear about more storms coming this weekend! UGHH - don't they know I have miles to get in!

Bo - the hot springs sound amazing. I treat AP's a lot like you do. If I earn 'em I eat 'em - LOL. My weight loss has been slow but over time it all adds up! Shopping for FL must be fun. I really need to get out and do some shopping. My wardrobe is just so limited but I never seem to have the time to shop. My time these days is filled with either running or school - oh yeah and the 3 kids - LOL. I need to just put a day on the calendar and go out and shop til I drop - or my credit card makes me stop!

Michelle - I hope you are feeling better! Are you reading, but not posting? I am missing your posts! I noticed in the results from the weekend that your DH finished right behind me again. We run at a very similar pace it seems and I now know what he looks like from the race day pictures. Hope all is well in your world.

Everyone else - enjoy your day - enjoy your runs AND enjoy your AP's!! Colleen

Re: Weight Watcher Runners March 10-16
hi all - the alarm went off, I fell back asleep but I woke up 10 minutes later... I was so glad that I did! I ran 5 miles and tried to do 3 mi @ 9:59 like my training plan said but my run was much slower. I think it was because I was wearing my new shoes which are stiffer & heavier than my current ones... at first I felt like I was running with blocks of wood attached to my feet. I know I'll get use to it because I've had the Brooks Addiction before but it is a strange feeling at first.

shannon- I hope your 10k race goes well this weekend!

lifentheparks - congrats on the 2lb loss & good luck on your race this weekend. I have about 50 pages of the book left & when I'm done, then I'll look up that scandel & read all about it. It's funny because I have to keep telling myself "wow, this is a true story" because it seems like fiction. I agree with everyone else... you are going to become a race addict like the rest of us :)

Bo - interesting that your leader said you could eat all your APs because that's what I was originally told a few years ago. I actually used the 8 mile scenario when talking to my leader last night & she said that I should only eat 4 of those AP earned BUT if I was starving, then I could go ahead & eat the remaining 4 AP AND only with healthy options.

Colleen - enjoy watching your daughter play this weekend!

off to make my WW quesadilla for lunch - I've been POP since this morning :)

Re: Weight Watcher Runners March 10-16

Wow, two posts from me in one week! I just finished a major project at work so I've got a bit more free time now. First of all, thanks to everyone who voted for my mom and brother. They're taping the show tonight and it airs tomorrow night, so we should know by then if they get to stay or not.

I ran last night for the first time in two weeks and it was awful! No more breaks for me! I only did three miles. It's starting to heat up here too so I'm sure that didn't help. I dread Alabama summers. I'm meeting some girls today after work again to run 4 miles. My eating hasn't been that great either. That along with not running makes me feel like a blob. I'm having a salad for lunch today. :)

LeanyJoan - Wow you're fast! You ran 16 miles much quicker than it takes me to run a half marathon. I'm jealous. And good idea about the knitting. I need a new knitting project. I'm knitting a baby blanket right now, but it gets so boring!!

lifeintheparks - I'll be thinking about your mom and sending good vibes her way! And no you couldn't see my lovely jeans on the show. Maybe I'll take a picture and post it here. Or not, it depends on how the picture turns out. :)

Bodacious - You make me really want to come visit Alaska! I guess I have to do the marathon there now. :)

Thisyear - We run at about the same pace. I just have to keep telling myself that it's not about speed. I'm covering the distance and that's all that matters!

Re: Weight Watcher Runners March 10-16

Hi Everyone! I logged in and wrote last night and when I hit the 'log' button - lost everything! Grrrr...it was late so I went to bed and thought I would 'try' again tonight. I'm traveling this week so working off an aircard for internet. Yesterday was a DOR since I flew to NYC and started working as soon as I got here. Had to 'spring' ahead another hour so the body is trying to adapt. Anyway...I ran 6 miles this morning with the Manhattan Skyline as my view. I do like to run in new places and almost wish I had the Garmin 305 instead of my Polar so I could drop crumbs to find my way back when I get lost! Sometimes all the streets look the same so I end up running further trying to backtrack! I always run with my cell phone and a few $$$ in case I have to get directions. LOL.

GatorGirl - I'm glad you went to the meeting to get inspired to get back on track and be there for your friend. I liked this week's lecture about switching from Core to Flex and vice versa if things are getting in a slump. Thanks to RedFox - I'm cooking new and interesting things these days to shake the body up a bit. Sounds like you are having a good day on plan. I actually try to travel with some of my food so I have it when I'm hungry. I try to eat in (thank God for microwaves and the new Healthy Choice chef prepared meals - I love the Dill Salmon) most nights and then save my extra points for Saturday night when my husband flies in and we go see a show.

BrandyShea - Knitting baby blankets does get boring after awhile. I saw a girl is a really cute knitted sweater/jacket today and would love to try one of those. I need to find a knitting shop in Chicago and look at patterns. My daughter lives in Little Rock and the humidity and heat is already starting to get to her. I'm sure the summers in AL make you melt.

StillPluggin - I agree with everything you say about the training for a marathon. I was just talking to a client about it today and said that I think I will do more half-marathons in the future but wouldn't rule out another marathon. It IS time consuming to get the runs in - but it is a sense of accomplishment, isn't it? I think I am more of a distance runner - it takes me a few miles to 'settle in' and then the next miles start to fly by. Better to have tried...

Bo - thanks for keeping me on the straight and narrow today! Bet you didn't know you had such power, huh? I got a Turkey sandwich at subway for lunch and stayed away from the chips (they were definitely calling my name) but rememberd what happened when you had chips and decided it wasn't worth it! ;) Kudos to you for giving your Baby Boy (some baby, huh? LOL) the Nano - anything for encouragement is my motto. WOO HOO for the size 4 pants - great feeling, huh? I still have days when I wake up thinking - did I gain it all back overnight!

RedFox - I can't imagine running at 4:15 in the morning. You go, girl! I didn't realize the Garmin also had a foot pod to use when indoors. My son only has the GPS wristband but guess you can buy the foot pod separately? Glad you enjoyed the concert - where was it?

It's getting late and I need to see if this response will post and then I need to get my butt in bed! Tomorrow morning will be an 8-mile run so must get my muscle sleep! :D This week is just zipping on by - stay healthy!

Hi all...Wanted to jump online for a quick minute and get in one last post before I head out tomorrow morning to Lake Mead for my race on Saturday. I'm going to get to bed early tonight as everything I've read says to get a good's night rest tonight because tomorrow night I probably will not sleep well due to nerves and excitement :) It appears that my first race is going to be an interesting one as I'm still fighting a cold and today's run was a bit of a struggle. The weather channel is also saying it's going to be WINDY on Saturday!! Oh well, I'm prepared for whatever the running gods send my way :p My friend that was supposed to be going along for moral support just backed out due to a suprise visit from her brother, so I'm going to be experiencing this "first" alone which I'm actually okay with. I hope you all have a happy Friday and the next time you hear from me you will be reading my first race report :^0

Night all!!

Re: Weight Watcher Runners March 10-16

Lifen have a great time at the race! Don't worry about going alone, 1/2 my races I have turned up alone but there are always interesting people to meet. At the frostbite footrace I ended up talking with some old guy who had come up from NY to see the iditarod and experience the AK winter, he had been here many times in the summer and ran most of our summer races. He said he was sold on the trip when he found a winter race. We had an awesome talk about running and all the different races he had done, I asked him if he expected to get a medal from the race and he said no but 20 mins later they called his name, he took first place in his age group and there I was cheering like I had known him forever or something! Anyway I cannot wait to hear all about your first race :)

LOL someone must have been motivating me from afar as I had a way better day today! It was more of a mini meal day tho I think I was feeding my face about every 2 hours!

Steel Oats with blueberries and FF milk

Apple

Grapple

Banana

1/2 cup cottage cheese with some cut up raw veg

orange

Huge salad with some sliced chicken and more cottage cheese

Hot chocolate made with ff milk and diet swiss miss packet

2 ryvita crackers with little PB

I think I have everything in except for the oil and pills

I ran 4 miles, wanted to do 5 but had belly issues with all the food I inhaled :) I did get in 100 twisty crunches as well'

I asked my other leader buddy about the AP's and she sent me this from the leaders handbook:

Ok Tracy, Here is the 'official' scoop from WW Leaders book Q&A.

Is there a limit to the number of activity POINTS values that can be traded for extra food?
NO, but the average daily number of activity POINTS values earned in a day shouldn't exceed 4 unless the member is under the supervision of an exercise professional. Furthermore, it's never a good idea to be overactive in order to overeat. Activity POINTS values that are swapped for food and eaten won't contribute to weight loss.

If I earn 7 activity POINTS values in the day, can I eat all 7?
Yes, but remember that activity POINTS values that are swapped for food POINTS values and eaten won't contribute to weight loss because you've eaten the calories.

So they don't want us earning too many for the sake of being able to eat more but if we do earn them in we can eat them :)

It kind of bugs me that it states eating activity pts won't contribute to weight loss, it has to as there is a deficit, an ap is approx 100 cals burnt and depending on fat/fiber etc a food pt average would be 50ish cals so cals out are more than cals in....that is unless you overestimate AP's... Of course not eating ap's would give quicker weight loss but would that be a safe and healthy weight loss for someone who is stressing their body with long distance training, I think I am going to write WW concerning the wording of their guidance.

Pluggin my DH has signed up for the R&R 1/2 he made me mad as he left it too late for me to get the shirt, I had forwarded him the email with the details so he could get me the freebie but he couldn't make up his mind until after it was too late. Anyway now I will have a training partner if I want one, I am undecided as he is mean and fussy when he has to deal with heat/humidity LOL I am not sold on if I want to deal with that!

Hi to everyone I couldn't get personal with, I got's to run and prep for tomorrow!

Re: Weight Watcher Runners March 10-16

Morning All,

I bonked on my run yesterday. I ran two miles and stopped. My intestines were grumpy from all the fun I put them through this week so I will try again today. I also weighed myself and was up four pounds! It better be water weight from the prep and IV or someobody is gonna get hurt! LOL - I am going to weigh in at WW today (haven't in 6 weeks - UGHH) and bring in the reins.

To all our weekend runners - have a blast!!

Lifein - I can't wait to hear about your first race. I know you will do awesome and take in the whole experience!

Shannon - this is your first 10K, right? You will have no problems as well. You trained great and now its time - YAY. I am looking forward to hearing about your run as well.

Happy and Melanie - you are going to get to meet and run together - how cool! Enjoy and take a picture to post - ok? I love the pictures - Melanie you are always good about that so I think we will have to leave that up to you. Looking forward to hearing all about this FL race!!

Marcie - Good luck on your first race. Firsts are sooo special. Enjoy it, get a picture if you can because if you get hooked like the rest of us are you will want to look back on this race! Make sure to let us know how you do!!

Bo - DH will be running that is great! I wish I could get DH to run a race with me. Just a warning though I am grouchy in the heat too!! LOL - I will most likely complain the night before about how hot it will be so you might want to stay clear of me that night. Gosh, I can't wait for that race though. Should be such a blast there! Thanks again for hooking me up with the cheaper room. We just booked our airfare and got great direct flights out of Boston. We are going down Thursday and coming home Monday. What about you?

Gotta run and get everyone up for the day. Colleen

hi everyone. i am here, albeit not well, but here. i have been having much GI problems and the exhaustion has been underwhelming! i am starting to turn around, and am hoping to get back to the running early next week. it has not been a good couple of weeks for me. the girls (knock on wood) have been ok, a little stuffy, but nothing too exciting. i am worried about getting back into the running - it always freaks me out when i am forced to take time off and then get back into it, almost like starting all over. I just have bad memories of the pain of strarting from scratch! oh well, whatever will be will be. i am glad that you all are having fun POP days, running days and all the like. I am hoping to get into posting more personals next week.

Be well!

Re: Weight Watcher Runners March 10-16

Evening All,

I did get to WW today and am so glad I did. I thought a lot the past few days about how I want to continue this training and how I have been eating. I know that I can do better quality food choices with my AP's and I am going to work hard at that. I am also going to switch to core until the marathon. I like how it is all whole foods and not processed. I went food shopping and feel like I got my healthiest food order in months. I am excited for the change and I think my body will like it too.

While at the meeting I met a woman who is training for her first marathon in June so we talked a bit and I may have found a mid week running partner so thats cool. The leader mentioned something about this easy chicken recipe and a few people were saying "oh yeah, I made that, its good." So I made it tonight and it was yummy. Here is the whole recipe: chicken - any kind, 1 cup ketchup, 1 can diet coke. Simmer until the chicken just falls apart - like a pulled pork.

Has anyone tried Becks light beer? My leader said it was only one point a beer so I picked some up tonight and it is OK. One point though - you can't beat that!

Got a nice strong 5 mile treadmill run in today after my WW meeting. I needed to make up some miles from yesterday but didn't want to do to many before my 18 tomorrow.

Michelle - sorry you've been feeling so crappy - sending more healing vibes out your way!! I am glad you checked in - we were missing you. Get healthy for your trip thats coming up. Is that in April?

Have a great weekend everyone!

Re: Weight Watcher Runners March 10-16
Nhmommy I went out to the course I am going to run tomorrow for the 10k and it runs right past the Red Mountain Spa. Don't worry about some time off I have done that in the past and been very surprised at the base I had already built up I didn't have to "start all over" and you run a lot further than I do so I am sure you have a good base.

Colleen the same thing happened to me this week (sorry maybe TMI) but I got on the scale and had gained almost 5 pounds! I thought no way, I had been "stopped up" and retaining water like crazy needless to say I took something to remedy the situation and well by the next day 5 pounds gone! Crazy huh. And Thanks for the tips on the marathon training I am glad to hear it was not all "roses and chocolates!" I want a realistic view of it before I decide, I know I can do it but worry about the time consuming training schedule.

Life don't know if you will see this until tomorrow but thanks for the email and good luck to you too it is starting to get windy here I am ok with clouds and rain but oh I hope its not windy! I am also sending well wishes to your mom!
I went to pick up my race packet and well the shirt is not the cutest, I will have to post a picture it fits the area and the red rocks around here I will post a picture of that too Beautiful race scenery but not really for a shirt. It has a lizard on it. My DH is going to be the cameraman so hopefully he gets my best side LOL

Darlene your run in NY sounds awesome! Are you there for work, what do you do? The show and dinner with Dh on Saturday sounds fun. Oh and I love the Dill Salmon Healthy Choice too! Great dinner and low points

Well I am off to dinner with running buddy and our DH's I will make good choices as I do not want any tummy troubles tomorrow!

Re: Weight Watcher Runners March 10-16

Lots of races this weekend - good luck everyone! Life - will be thinking of you running your first race! Enjoy it - it will be awesome. Make sure someone takes pictures. Happy and GatorGirl - how cool that you get to run a race together! Shannon - good luck with your 10K - will be looking forward to seeing a picture in that race shirt!!! May the wind be at your back and the roads paved with PR's. Looking forward to hearing all the results.

Bo - thanks for the clarification from your leader about AP points. It has certainly helped me get a better feel for what I should be eating - especially on long run days. This morning I ran 8 miles and had a banana before I left. I actually considered it my AP points for the day. The body definitely needs additional fuel when you are running for more than an hour at a time.

nhmommy - Sorry you are still feeling so crummy but at least you are turning the corner. The GI problems are the pits. Get some rest over the weekend so you are back in running shape next week. I'm sending healing thoughts your way.

StillPluggin - I bought Beck Light's last summer right after I found out it was only 1-pt per bottle. I agree - not bad for 1-point! It is especially good in a frozen mug. :x Good luck switching to core - the chicken recipe sounds good. I was sharing recipes with clients today and they were all impressed that I've started cooking more! Now I have another recipe to try.

Shannon - I'm here for work. We used to live here before my husband got transferred to Chicago. I am a medical massage therapist and have a clientele here that I come back to see once a month. It coincides with our Manhattan Theatre Club membership - so I usually come on Tuesday or Wednesday and DH flies in on Friday or Saturday. It was our way to 'transition' to leaving NYC. We loved being here but I am beginning to love Chicago too!

Time for some shut-eye - have a great weekend everyone. Will be watching for all the race reports.

Re: Weight Watcher Runners March 10-16

Hi everyone - I've been keeping up with reading but just hadn't had time to respond. The WI went well this week, down 0.8lbs and considering I was up 2.6 last week I'll take it! I have been doing great on points all week so hopefully the weekend goes as well. Can't say I've been running this week, as I've had crazy hours at work....but I plan on going to the gym in the AM before the St Patty's Day Parade! Hubby's B-Day is on Sunday and I'm planning on making a cake that my leader reccommended. It is a regular boxed cake mix, but instead of the ingrediants you normally add (eggs, oil etc) you add 1 can of diet soda (she reccommended diet black cherry dr pepper for chocolate cake and diet gingerale or diet sprite for yellow or white. If you make the regular sized cupcakes, they are 1 point each. A couple people from my group have tried it and liked it. I'll let you know how it turns out!

LeanyJoan - congrats on the 16 mile run! Sounds like a great (and fast) pace! I also haven't been doing well losing the hour sleep from Sunday.....can't seem to get in the swing of the new time. congrats on the 2.2 loss!

lifeintheparks - sorry to hear about your mo' results, Here's hoping that everything turns out alright. next week

redfoxfan - the game sunday was awesome, and I'm sure you've seen that my siena men have made the ncaa's! woohoo! MAAC champions!!!!

stillpluggin - i love reading your posts and hearing about how far you've gone! sounds like a great race....i just can't imagine running 15 miles BEFORE a race! kudos to you. love the pic.

thinindisguise - sign up for the 5k. the hills make you stronger....and you can always walk a portion if needed. i do hear you though.....i hate hills. don't worry about the pace. my first 5k race i finished in 39 something. just before the walkers. but after you run, you feel great, and when you tell people you completed a 5k....no one asks for your time. they just look at you in admiration about what you can do.

Bo - go shopping for the little sizes! you've earned it! and i know you had commented before about a picture of you where you can see your clavicles. those are good times aren't they!

Happy - glad you are enjoying the nice Fl weather. good luck in the race.

REgarding the AP's....my leader has been more along the thought process of Bo's original post....eat the activity points you earn, because if you don't eat them you aren't fueling your body and you may actually GAIN. I have always tried to eat most of them (if not all)...but I do have to admit that sometimes I could certainly choose wiser foods to use them on. Bo I totally hear you about the deficient between 1AP and 1 WWpoint. I think you HAVE to still lose if you exercise AND eat all your points....and that is what my leader has always encouraged us to do.

Well...that's about it for me for tonight....Good luck to all the weekend racers.....hope you run fast and don't have too much "green beer"!

Re: Weight Watcher Runners March 10-16
Have a blast Saturday racers :)

It is soooo cool Happy and Mel get to meet up! I would love to race with our fearless leader, really I would love to race with you all :)

Shannon the 10K distance has been my favourite distance so far, 5K's seem to be over too quickly but 10K gives you time to get into the groove and get more of a buzz. I am trying to remember who it was that posted the pic of the butt ugly race shirt last year, at the moment they still own the rights to claiming the ugly shirt prize!

Can't wait to hear how it all went for you all.

Pluggin I also arrive on the Thursday and leave Monday, I will probably drive up from Panama City tho. I have been held hostage by the airlines living in Alaska the last 9 years and flying is really no fun anymore so it will be refreshing to be able to drive my Tucson up, I will just make sure my Tom Tom is charged ;) I will have to behave myself now DH is running, will need blinkers on to keep the eyes from checking out the eye candy, one thing about runners is they are hot! I figured that out at the Marine Corp expo! Saying that tho he is faster than I so maybe I can sneak a peek LOL

Nhmommy I send you healing vibes, you have had a lot of illness to deal with recently with your kids and now you and it is no fun, get well and strong soon.

Leany I need to see someone like you, you should come to AK :) I have never had a massage medical or otherwise and I am sure I am missing out! The closest I get is rolling on the floor on my foam roller.

Cherbear LOL I am still freaked out by my bones sometimes! It is a good thing my DH has been in Korea for the last year of my loss as I have spent soooooooooo much on new clothes and given bags and bags of awesome stuff to charity. He would freak! I just hate to wear oversized things, I tried and it just makes me look sloppy and dowdry..is that a real word??? LOL

It was just on the news about the 101 year old British guy training for a marathon, he was drinking beer but I missed if he drinks it before or after his training run. That rocks, I hope I am still plodding on that far in the future.

Today I did a lunchtime spin class, it was nowhere near as long or intense as the 2 hour one last Saturday but doing that and 100 ab things gave me 4 aps. My darn shins or something near my shins are still tweaking a bit, I googled shin splints but it does not sound like I have that. I know after the mega spin last Saturday I had tightness in the back of my legs in the area between the heel and the bottom of my calf and a couple of days later I had my first shin twinge so I am thinking it may be related somehow. It cracks me up that I injure myself riding darn bikes. Last summer it was my IT band going up that darn mountain and now I have tweaked something else. Everyone said I would hurt myself running! I think I will go pop a pill, roll around on my roller and have an easy swim day tomorrow in hope I can go far Sunday.

Catch you all tomorrow guys

Re: Weight Watcher Runners March 10-16

I just got back from a 5.5 mile run. I took my Garmin for a spin. It was great! It is about 40 degrees and damp but I warmed up quickly. When I got home and looked at the numbers that the Garmin recorded, I was happy yo see that I am fairly consistent. I guess the treadmill trained me that way. I did notice a slowdown towards then end when I was getting a little tired. There are quite a few inclines on the path I chose (I usually run at 1% on the treadmill) and the last couple of miles I had a headwind. I was glad for that because I figure whern I run the Spring Lake 5 , the ocean breeze will be like that.

Cherbear - Congrats to Sienna. I guess you will find out Sunday where they will be headed. We will find out Monday where the Marist team will be playing. My daughter has to work the NCAA tournament in Bridgeport, CT. If Marist goes there, we will too. Or if they go somewhere really nice, we might follow and leave our working daughter to her own devices.

Hope all the racers are having great runs today!

Darlene - I am glad I inspire you to cook. It is a passion of mine. Last night I made Miso Glazed Cod from Ellie Krieger's cookbook. It was delicious. The k.d . lang concert was at the New Jersery Performing Art Center in Newark.

Girl Scout Cookies have arrived. I have;t opened them yet. I was terrible for the last two days - I have been sneaking Whitman's Weight Watchers Candies - lots of them. I don't who I am sneaking them from. My weight will go up, I will be miserable and at WI it will be printed in black and whit. I am back on the wagon today - POP from now until WI on Thursday! And I had two days tht I didn't get any exercise. Someitmes I wonder what is wrong with me that I can be such an F-up.

Tonight is another concert in Philadelphia. I think it is Holst's Planets. We had tickets for about once a month but because you can trade dates and performances, we ended up trading and having something like 4 concerts in March.
