Exercise-induced Asthma

I've just recently been diagnosed with exercise-induced asthma. I was wondering if there are any other runners who have this problem and what (if anything) they've found reduced symptoms. I've been running for about a year and a half, doing 5 or 6 miles, 3 times a week.

While I have no experience with this condition, the current world record holder in the marathon, Haile Gebrselassie, has it. For more, Google his name, particularly under Google News.

I was diagnosed with excercise-induced asthma over ten years ago when I was competing in college. I've always had my handy albuterol inhaler with me whenever I work out. Two puffs before working out and I am good for a few hours. Allergy season (now) is especially tough on the lungs, so it is sometimes a bit more aggavated now than at other times.

Hello

That's terrible, I have never heard of this, but it doesn't sound good to have. I always thought people with asthma couldn't exercise very much specially running since it's a high aerobic excercise. Induced by exercise that's strange.

Hey there,

I've had EIA for years, but am finally getting serious about preventing and minimizing it, rather than just suffering through it. I have a race this weekend, in what I'm sure will be inclimate weather, and trying to form a plan of attack.

Can anyone share their pre-run warmup? I've been reading about a refractory period, and that a 10 minute warm-up really helps, so any suggestions are appreciated.
