The Future of Doping

According to this fascinating and scary article, in 1997, researcher Se-Jin Lee published work showing that inactivating a certain gene in mice led to insane muscle growth (twice the muscle mass!) in a very short amount of time. He was instantly inundated with requests from athletes, and in one case even a high school wrestling coach offering an entire team wrestlers as experiment subjects. Blood and urine test won't catch this kind of performance enhancement because it's not a supplement--it's an alteration of your genes.

Now a decade later, and you have to wonder: how many labs on this planet can perform these tricks? And is there any chance no top athletes are partaking?

Re: The Future of Doping

Wouldn't that be neat to have that physique? Yea Ok ! It would take out the fun of tyring to accomplish something. But who in their right mind a coach training a group kids wanting to try it with out it being proven. I am sorry that is greedy and just plain stupid. To alter your genes is something I believe alot of people are unaware of the complications that could arise from this type of enchancement. It is not something you take then stop so it flushes out of your system. Do I think top athletes some not all may or have tried this? Yes it is very likely when your paid to set, make , or break records you may do anything to accomplish that so you can make more money and win championships. Probably a good poriton of labs can so these things if one reasearcher is doing it there has to be more researchers attempting things of this magnitude. In todays society we see the quick fix and emphasis on being the best over everybody. We have lost focus on the doing it for funpart which is why we started some sort of activity in the first place.
