Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 23rd

Happy Easter, all!

Jeff, great job on your race! Nice pics, too! Did you like running on the RR bed?

Chuck, great scenery where you were! Still, such a sad reason to have to go there... I'm sure it provided some closure for that Dad who went. How hard to lose your child, at any age.

Laurel, it sounds like you are overcoming your mental hurdles. I'm sure you'll be ready for your HM in 2 weeks!

kevin, good to hear you're feeling better. Enjoy your run!

runjr, are you sure you took a rest day in there?! My DD will be returning to Milwaukee this evening from her spring break--I'm sure she won't be pleased to see the new snow accumulations. Maybe it will all melt today? We escaped with just a dusting this time.

spicegeek, I don't think that sounds like a wasted day at all--sounds great to me! And all that EEC (Easter EC)--you won't need a basket! ;)

misswendy, nice long run yesterday! I think you should definitely be looking at fulls..... Have a fun Easter with your family!

cara, enjoy your vacation! Mountains sound nice! (Snow does not, at least right now--we have had enough.) Congrats and good luck on your new job when you return!

monnik, glad to hear you are getting back to form! I hope to be able to say the same one of these days...

My update: yesterday morning I felt like the knee might be starting to turn the corner--less pain & stiffness than the past 3 weeks. I did my PT and some abs/arm work, then ate breakfast and iced the knee, showered and ran a few errands. Right after I got home, noticed my stomach not feeling well, and in no time it was apparent the stomach flu had hit. I was miserable up until about midnight, then was able to get some rest. Feeling better this a.m., but more or less like a dishrag. I just can't seem to catch a break this month! April HAS to be better, right?

Take care, all.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 23rd

Good morning and Happy Easter to all!

I got back from Colorado late last night. I spent a few chair lift rides trying to catch up with you all. It finally occured to me that it would be quite a bummer to drop my blackberry from the lift, so I gave up.

I ran 2 days while in Colorado. One day was on a treadmill and the other was outside. I ran at 8,700 feet and it was 17 degrees. (brrrr) I was terribly slow that day after the first day of skiing. The following days, my legs were completely shot. I couldn't run and ski the way I like to ski in a given day. What was I thinking?

I definitely got a workout in every day and DH says I won't suffer from the 5 days off since I was doing some massive work on the mountain. My next race is the 12th in some hills so hopefully dealing with the elevation created a training effect.

I plan on an easy 4 later today after I color some eggs and get out of my robe. (ha)

Great job on your race Jeff. Happy running all.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 23rd

Happy Easter to ALL!

I ran 12M this a.m. in 2:24.02 - exactly a 12mm pace - so definitely ran faster during part of the run, as this time includes a bit of walking between miles 10-11 and then again after running approx. another mile between miles 11-12. was watching my watch & seemed like those last two miles were creeping by...at least now I know I can finish the HM in 2 wks. - tho' may not run the whole thing...we'll see. the 12M today was longest training run - YAY! Only problem now is that I feel pretty wiped out by that run today & need to enjoy Easter with the family - my DH seems quite annoyed with me - I reminded him this is my longest run prior to the HM - which is in just 2 wks. He is happy that I'm getting in shape, except when it cuts into family time. I see his point, but need a bit of understanding...I'm also having some GI distress since the run - has that happened to anyone else following LSDs with greatly increased effort? The longest I've run prior to today was a 10.7M run about a month ago.

MACD - thx for encouragement - hate to hear about your woes - a stomach bug on top of your knee issues?!? EEK - that's "no fair!" Glad you're feeling a bit better - rest today as much as possible!

ANDAHUFF - glad you're back! I forgot you were going to Colorado. I certainly think skiing counts as training - most likely running back @ home now will be a cinch compared to your time in CO!! Don't worry! What race are you running on the 12th??

JOE - is it a bit chilly up there near Katy? it is down here - i think was around 63F when arrived back in from run (if any of you northerners are reading, I know you would LOVE 63F temps). I did wear shorts and a tank - didn't feel chilly until I stopped running & was outside with DDs hunting Easter eggs. I'll have to post some pics of my super cute DDs in their Easter dresses from their grandma.

SPICEGEEK - tried out the G2 -thanks for the tip there!

Everyone enjoy your day! I will be resting for the remainder of today & have no workouts scheduled for tomorrow - just hydrating & recouperating...

Laurel

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 23rd

Happy Easter all. Going to run today before potentially more snow, hopefully just a dusting. I didn't take a day off this week but with the snow and tough time finding running routes my long run was yesterday 8.28.

joe - Happy Easter. You never fail to get our week going.

jeff - rest today and great race.

macd - you caught me no rest day this week. Yes your DD will be shocked with the snow on the ground. Our family has been nursing the stomach flu for the last few weeks. The knee is getting better and spring is almost here is the positive.

andahuff - welcome back.

chuck - good Easter run.

laurel - great run. Make sure you really stretch out and then the tiredness will go away quicker. If you stretch and refuel with some good food the tiredness goes away.

Happy Easter everyone.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 23rd

andahuff - Have a nice run today in the thick air. I am dumbed out that I did not have a chance to ski(snow board) this winter. Maybe next season!

chuck - Following a week of no running you are start with a 7 miler?! Way to jump back in with both feet. Good job.

laurel - Good LR. Now you know for sure will can complete your HM. Plan to walk at water stations. The brief rest and water will energize you. I realized that running throu the water stations was'nt too bright. I was wearing more that I consumed. During a 5K 10K it's not that big a deal, but running for two hours, that water is critical.

runjr - Take a rest day. I am feeling good post race, but I will definately rest today, well maybe a little swimming.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 23rd
hi all - I decided to take a rest day today - I was thinking about a 4 - 5 mile run but I had a bad night with whatever is wrong with my stomach + I have been having some general aches and pains including some tightness in my right hip area - I figured I have got plenty of training in this past 6 days so a day geeking out on the sofa wasn`t going to kill me ! So instead of doing my taxes - which was I SHOULD have been doing .. I have spent the day messing with a web site for a friend of mine.

So ... if anyone is bored - I wouldn`t mind some feedback on the layout / functionality of the site so far

the temporary home page can be found here

http://www.zombie-killers.com/index2.html

The only area that is for the most part finished is the Character Bios - as least as far as the layout goes - I will be making the sidebar menu look like to top menu - I`m waiting for confirmation of the characters names !

Hope you are all having a happy easter

Macd - sorry to hear about your stomach bug - but just think how great you are going to feel when everything is better !!!! Glad to hear the knee is improving - Easter EC -.... love it !!!! and much less fattening !! - you are too funny !

Andahuff - thats dedication to the team checking in while on the ski lift !

chuck - stretch those calfs !! - 5 mins jumping rope every day really helps to build up that calf muscle

Laurel - Don`t forget - you ran 12 miles after a week of other runs - when you do you race you`ll be rested - you`ll have the adrenaline of the race too - you may walk thro the water stations but I am SURE you`ll run the whole race and do an awesome job - I only ran 10 miles before my half and I was fine. And feeling wiped is quite normal - good lord girl - you ran 12 miles !!!! Don`t skip the taper it is important you start the race well rested. And runjr gave good advice on the stretch _ refuel - carbs and protein

runjr - I don`t know how you put up with all that snow - I`d be going nuts by now !!

Jeff - a little walk or swim and light stretch will do you go - don`t go crazy tho you did a lot yesterday !!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 23rd
hey Laurel, I'm the King of bad belly during and after runs. I actually have IBS so I've had to learn what to eat before a run so I don't have to go or get sick after my run. To make sure I can make it the whole way through my Half without stopping I take Imodium AD. I try not to eat a big meal and if I drink coffee I do it 2 hours before my run. Long runs are known to mess with runners stomachs but you do get better eventually. Hope this helps. As far as DH and the training sometimes we have to step back and have a family day, but it's a give and take. Thats why I wonder about running a whole Marathon, the time it takes away from other things to train for a whole.

Spicegeek, my calfs are sore from climbing the Mnt all week. The rest of my legs felt fine. My forearms are tight also from repelling down the ropes.

Jeff, i slowed my pace down and ran today mainly for some stress relief. Had some bad dreams last night about the site. Did me some good to run.

runjr, hope you got your run in today before the snow.

Macd, I agree with Spice geek good news about your knee. Good luck to you.

Andahuff. I got the nerve up to lay down on the cliff and hold my camera over and take a picture, I didn't look, just stuck it over and snapped. It turned out ok but need to crawl out further to get past the ledge and that just wasn't happening!

Joe, thanks for getting us going on easter morning. hope you the best Easter day!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 23rd
Happy Easter all,
I have been fighting a cold all week. It is now a sinus infection and I am going to visit our clinic tomorrow and get some drugs - I am tired of feeling lousy! I ran a whopping 4.2 miles this week including my 5K! Need to get better and get back on track.
Jeff, awesome half! Thanks for the pics. We have a railroad bike path near us that I have been wanting to try.
Lauren, I always am tired after long runs - anything over 8 miles and I need to schedule a nap! You had a great time for 12 miles. You are ready for your half.
Spicegeek, I will check out your site. Good thing you took a rest day - sounds like the viruses are making their rounds here!
Joe, thanks for getting us started.
Anda, glad you had a wonderful ski trip.
Chuck, those were some pics you took. I am glad the pilots were not friends of your son - still very sad!
RunJr., enough with the snow already! You guys got about 2x what we got - for a change! So much for "spring break".
Kevin, saw you were feeling poorly too. This really messes with our half training, doesn't it?
MacD, where does your dd go to school? My dh went to Marquette for one year. Hopefully our snow will be gone in the next few days. My eldest dd has a friend going to Drake Law School - dd visited there but decided on Case in Cleveland at the last minute. We really wanted her to chose Drake! Oh well, they know their own minds!
Hi to everyone else. I had a very lazy Easter - first time I've missed Easter sunday church in years!
Mary

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 23rd

hi all, went for a run because the weather is nice today. Low 30's but sunny. Tonight some snow showers and tomorrow is okay then an ugly day for Tuesday. I did go for that run and got in 7.52 at 8:47 pace. Tomorrow will be a slow run and Tuesday will be the off day.

jeff - enjoy your rest day.

spicegeek - if you are feeling pain it is good to listen and rest. You workouts are so solid. We are trying to stay optimistic on the weather but it has been tough. I can't wait to run without so many layers.

chuck - thanks for the stomach tips as I have problems all the time. Fartleks mean something totally different to me.

mary - I travel to Madison for work quite a bit and your area had more snow. We are at almost 100". Isn't this winter break? lol.

take care and Happy Easter.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 23rd

Hello everyone! Happy Easter!

I did my 15 min run today! It felt good to run, even for just a short time. My legs felt a little tired though. Kind of weird considering I hadn't run for a week.

Macd019, it's agreed then. April will be a better month! I think we should all just expect that to be the case. I'm sorry to hear about you being sick. You've definitely had enough bad stuff happen for awhile...

Andahuff, welcome back! I've never been skiing (unless you count that time 30 years ago when I was drunk), but I'd think it qualifies you for some massive hill training. At least ‘downhill' training. Good luck on the 4 miles today, and getting back into running.

Chuck, good run! Too bad you had to cut it short, but ya know, a man's gotta eat! LOL

Laurel, Excellent run! And a good time too! I can't speak to the GI distress, although 12 miles is a long way to go at a harder pace. It's good that you listened to your body and walked a little. I sure wouldn't feel bad about that. I'd recommend drinking a lot of fluids to make sure you're hydrated.

Runjr, great run! Yeah this weather is weird huh? A couple of hours ago it was 50 degrees and sunny. Now it's snowing (really huge flakes) It looks pretty out the window, but if I gotta go out and shovel it tomorrow morning, I'll have some other words to describe it! LOL

JeffRW, sounds like great advice! I just have to remember to walk (not stop) at the water stations.

Spicegeek, the rest day sounds like a good idea. That website is pretty cool!

Mary, I'm sorry to hear you're sick too! I started getting mine on the Thursday before the 10K. I could feel it a little in my head the morning of the race but just ran through it. I'll tell you that one hour drive home was interesting, sneezing and coughing all the way home. I'm a lot better now, and coach just had me do a short run today, my first since last Sunday. Don't feel bad about not running much. Look at it as a recovery week. You (and I) will come out of it stronger! You'll see.

Runjr, yeah it's tough not to go out when it's sooooo niiiiiiiice outside!

Well I'm signing off! Good luck to everyone on your runs tomorrow! Those resting, rest easy!

Kevin

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 23rd
I am trying to get up a a consistant 50 miles a week and then eventually putting in intervals and hard long runs. I just ran a 5k yesterday before easter. With 39 miles a week and i just got off a cutback i thought I would be fine. But I am so sore from the 5k. It was over a minutes slower than my pr at it but it was a hilly course. I just did a easy 4 mile run on easter I am so sore all my muscles but the 4 mile run seemed to not agervate my muscles more. Well I am much slower at this distance from all slow miles and alot of them so it really sucks if I have to drop out of a decent milage week again (after a premature cutback from snow runs). It takes forever for me to get high milage and my recovery takes alot of milage away. I hope I am ok and my training is gonna go well somehow.
