Mount Kilimanjaro Update

Hi Everyone,

Some of you will recall the thread I started a couple months ago where I talked about a friend of mine and his old roommate from college planning to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Their goal was to raise awareness as to the importance of having clean water to reduce the spread of waterborne diseases. Brax and Marc had established a goal of $19,540 (one dollar per foot), with every penny of it going to the construction of fresh water wells and water collection systems. They both paid their own way to Tanzania and covered all of their expenses out of their own pockets while they were there. I am happy to report two things: First of all, Brax and Marc reached the summit safely yesterday, which coincided with World Water Day. Secondly, they exceeded their goal by 68%, raising over $33,000. Just to put things in perspective, that means it is enough money to provide clean, safe drinking water for over 1600 people for 20 years!!

For those of you who took the time to visit the website, thank you for doing so. Increasing awareness is the first step towards finding a solution. And for those who were kind enough to make an online donation, I am truly grateful. You should be very proud that you have played such an important role in improving the long term health of so many people, especially the children. I am including a link to the website again in case any of our new posters want to take a look. The cool thing is they have a tab that provides regular updates on all the wells that are currently being dug. It's kind of neat to be able to see how things are progessing. Thanks again everyone. Talk to you soon.

Good for them! that's great that they were able to raise so much and do well on their trip. I can't imagine not have fresh clean water available whenever I need or want it.
