Re: Weight Watchers Runners - March 24-30
Hi, can I join in? I am a ww lifetimer who did couch to 5k last year and have run 3 or 4 5k's, but got slack this winter on running. Have a couple 5ks coming up and a mini tri in June to get prepared for and need to focus, again. Gonna start back on couch 2 5k today and maybe skip forward a few weeks, but try to work it for time, too. I am on the Eastern Shore of MD and lead a ww meeting in Cambridge one night a week. Mom of 4 (ages 12-21), wife of 1 for 22.5 years. Cycling is my passion, running is my challenge and swimming is now becoming my zone time.

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - March 24-30

A quick thanks to everyone offering advice on my marathon or baby dilemma. I'm still stuck as to what to do. I think that I'm going to forgo the Alaska trip http://community.active.com/images/emoticons/sad.gif , but train with the group in hopes of running a fall marathon. We're going to start trying to get pregnant this summer and if it happens, I'll just run as much as I can, and if it doesn't, I'll be set for the marathon. At least I hope. That's the plan. Can of a wait and see what happens. I don't want to be one of those people who doesn't exercise at all while pregnant. I've never been pregnant, so I really can't talk from experience, but I've known a lot of friends who use pregnancy as an excuse to be lazy and eat whatever they want. Of course, I'm just talking of people that had healthy uncomplicated pregnancies.

I'm going to spin class tonight after work I think. I forgot my padded shorts, so I have a feeling my butt is going to be sore in the morning. :)

As far as the show goes, my mom and brother need your votes again! I know this is getting repetitive, but here's how to vote for them:

1. Call 1-877-472-4701.
2. Text the number 1 to 58463
3. Vote online at http://www.dance.mylifetime.com/

Remember you can vote 10 times per method! And 10 times per email address online! Here's a hint for the online voting. Fill out the form (pick couple 1 Jesse and Rebecca) and hit submit. Then, just hit the browser's back button, and the form will still be filled out and all you have to do is hit submit again. Easy!

Redfoxfan - I think my problem is that I want a lot of things that I can't do at the same time. If I choose a marathon, I'll have to put off having kids at least for a short while. If I choose kids, I'll have to put off the marathon. And I can't decide which one I want more at the moment!

LeanyJoan - that's so cool that you're a doula! That's got to be rewarding! The older I get the more the process of pregnancy and birth fascinates me, it's amazing what our bodies do!

Bo - Welcome to the ice bath club! I must say that I fill the tub up before I get in. That gets the cold over in one swoop. It would seem like prolonging the torture sitting in there while it's filling up. Kind of like getting in a cold pool slowly as opposed to just jumping in. And I always take a hot shower after the ice bath. Otherwise I'll be shivering for hours after.

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - March 24-30
Hi everyone. Got up early & went for my 5.3 mile run. It is the first time since January that I had a really good run and didn't feel like I needed to walk and kept a decent pace. I was so happy afterwards, it felt like my old runs. yeah! I am doing great on WW today and going to plan out tomorrow's menu while watching TV tonight. I'm finding that planning for my meals the next day is really helpful. I write everything down in the tracker and then if I need to change anything, I just cross it out & write the change at the bottom. so far so good.

Happy - I guess we were having a virtual run together but the sun wasn't up while I was on my run :)

mdgirl - welcome to the group... how cool to have a leader in our midst! how long have you been a lifetime member & how long as a leader?

Brandy - I'm going to vote tonight! thanks for the hint to make it easier for the online voting! had to laugh because I had uncomplicated pregnancies & they were the perfect excuse to not exercise. LOL which of course is why I gained so much weight. If (and that's a huge IF) we have one more, I plan on eating well & exercising for as long as I can.

I am planning to get up early and do a workout DVD at home. Maybe if I make myself get up early I will actually do a workout! good night, Melanie

Bo I to tried the ice bath a few weeks ago after a bad run legs were heavy and hurting, I have to say after the initial shock it was not to bad, not that I wanted to lay in there for long but afterwards I really did feel like it helped. I have yet to dare to do it again though. That is funny how you say your long run of 6.5 was not long enough! What great progress you have made this year in running! Oh and the dresses wow girl! I totally agree with you on the bow lol it's a wonderful dress but the bow needed to go.

Redfoxfan: WOW!!! You look amazing and dare I say a lot younger! I wish you well on your surgery and pray that your tests will come back fine.

I went to the gym after work and did 4 miles on the treadmill, I think I much prefer running outside but soon enough it will be way to hot unless I get up really early. I am going to have to start taking my daughter down to the school at 6 a.m. for drivers ed (Oh help me!!) so it will be a good excuse to change my runs back to the mornings.

Life I am so excited you are going to do a 10k you will love it, I am almost positive I will be able to make that Kanab 10k (Happy will you put me down for that too!) I will sign up as it gets a little closer. How far is that for you from Bryce?

Mdgirl welcome!!

Mel I totally agree with writing down a menu I am finding if I plan ahead and either write it or plan it out mentally I do so much better. My goal for this entire week is to be OP! Only Monday but so far so good!

Gator Girl~ I have been at lifetime since Jan 07 and began as a leader in June 07. Love being a leader and hope to do more of it in my retirement years. I love helping others make their wl goals and motivating them to get moving. I was a slug before ww and through 5 pregnancies. I am much more active then I have ever been in my life. Need to get back on running. Tonight swam 25 laps and did a cycling class.

Do you all attend meetings or do ww online? Thanks all for the welcome!!

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - March 24-30

Thanks all for your well wishes about the test results. I called the surgeon's office today to find out what the plan is. They still want me to come in for preop testing and consent tomorrow for the implant. I just have this feeling that I will go through that and right before the surgery they will say - only kidding - you have to wait for the next mammogram in 6 months. But at this point, I am heading into Manhattan tomorrow.

Shanon - thanks - younger looking is always a good thing.

I made the WW Italian Turkey and Spaghettis Squash Pie for dinner tonight. It was very good. I just thought it needed a little more spice so I added crushed red pepper to mine. If I had realized it sooner, I would have probably added a small amount of fennel seeds. The pie reminded me of lasagna and it was 3 points for 1/6 of a pie (standard pie plate). I am guessing that it will be even better tomorrow.

Here is the link to the recipe on eTools:

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - March 24-30

Hey everyone -

I have to say....I've been great about reading the board, but bad about writing for the past 2-3 weeks. I think I'm just getting frustraded that my weight has been up and down 2 lbs since december and I am still basically in the same spot. I tracked for 1 week and was on target....and didn't lose. So then I stopped tracking and did the "keep track in my head". I've been a bit off...but not that bad (I think). Who knows. WI is tomorrow and I think I'm up a bit...but we'll see.

I've been running TM at the gym or eliptical at least 3 days a week. I know as the weather here in upstate NY warms up, I'll be able to do more when I can get OUTSIDE again.

redfoxfan - CONGRATS on your loss to date. You are amazing. You look great (and I agree with the younger)....don't you just hate losing points when you get down 10lbs? I'm right on the cusp right now of losing another.... Hope everything works out with the repeat mammo for you. that's gotta be hard to think about for the next 6 months.

nhmommy - happy belated birthday!

leanyjoan - how was the pedicure?

thisyear - isn't it frustrating how easily men lose weight? my hsuband dropped 30lbs in a few months last year basically by watching what he eats and not eating after 8pm. and WOW....your hubby is fast! I hope to someday get under a 9min/mile pace in my 5k's....right now i'm around 9:40.

shannon4runner - congrats to you and your husband on the 8 year melanoma-free mark! keep slapping on the sunscreen! i don't really know how the clothing sizes go.....it does seem odd to be the same size and have that big of a weight difference....but who knows! i'm between a 10 and a 12 now and am right around 170. I'm 5'5" though...so i'm a big shorter than you guys.

bo - i LOVE LOVE LOVE the blue dress. sorry to your DIL....you should wear what you like to the wedding though! don't you hate losing points? i think back to when I had 29 pts a day....and how i used to COMPLAIN about it not being enough.....what i'd give to be able to have 29 pts now!

happy - i hear you about the easter candy. glad easter is out of the way now...as i've been on a candy kick for the past month or so. not a lot...but a couple pieces a day....and i know they are adding up! nice double digit run you had! i'm waiting for the day i can brag about having a 10 miler!

stillpluggin - congrats on the loss...wow! you are so close to your goal! that is CRAZY the amount of calories you burn a day training for the marathon! 2100!!!! you must have to eat all the time!

lifeintheparks - good luck with your 10k training program. i've been debating about training for a 10k. i can run up to 4.5 miles or so now......but i haven't found any interesting 10k's to motivate me!

well that's about it for now....hope i'm pretty much caught up! have a great week everyone!

gatergirl - more power to you for admitting the candy plunge! and for jumping right back on the wagon! everyone slips once and a while. the important thing is to recognize it, and start fresh the next day. one slip that leads to another and then another is the problem i think....

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - March 24-30

Hi Everyone and Happy day after Easter. We didn't have much candy for our baskets but being away from home for the past several days has certainly 'allowed' me to rise to the challenge of eating things I don't normally eat. It has been a great vacation and I ran 5.25 miles this morning (second run since I got here) and the hills didn't seem quite so bad today. Normally Monday is my long run day, but I am going to wait until later in the week when I'm back home - it is getting close enough to the marathon that I don't want to run a lot of steep hills that I'm not used to and take the chance of hurting something. It has been great (albeit cold - it actually snowed today - flurries but snow all the same!) to bein Atlanta with my sister-in-law and two kids and also having my two grownup kids here and my husband all together for the weekend.

My husband had to leave today so I went outlet shopping with my son and daughter in Dawsonville. We had great success and lots of laughs. Afterwards we picked up my 5-year old niece and took her to see "Horton Hears a Who". It was really cute. Tomorrow morning my daughter drives back to Little Rock. I am planning to give my sister-in-law a massage (she really needs it - for those that aren't aware - her husband died unexpectedly 18 months ago leaving behind a 4 and 9 year old.) We've had lots of laughter and lots of tears and the healing process continues. It will be hard to leave them on Wednesday although it will be good to get back to my normal 'routine' especially with workouts and eating!

Speaking of eating - Derby (the Golden Retriever) not only ate my viactiv chews and gu the other night - he also plowed through several 2-pt. bars! I've been zipping my suitcase ever since to keep what is left safe! LOL.

I've also talked to my WW leader about becoming a leader myself and got a call this past week about it. I am going to a meeting on Saturday and also have to do an on-line test to determine if I am 'leader material'. I've been at goal for almost two years and think it would be a good way to stay on the straight and narrow! Guess we'll have to see where this leads.

I don't have time to do personals tonight - just wanted to drop in and saw 'hi'. Will write more later.

~Darlene

Darlene~leading ww is a lot of fun!!! When it isn't fun anymore, I'll stop leading. I only do 1 meeting a week, many other leaders do 10 or more. I have another job, too. Which marathon are you doing? A gf just did Va Beach as her second. Cannot imagine that. Need to restart couch to 5k this week. Hopefully it will go fast and can skip some of the first weeks, but really need to get it back going. Would love to be happy running 10k's.

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - March 24-30

mdgirl66 - Welcome. I'm jen (aka maxiemoo) and I am training for a Tri ... I see that cycling is your passion so I may have to pick your brain at some point. I recently got a hybrid bike and rode a bit in my neighborhood to get used to the shifting of the gears...so confusing but I think I got it. I will ride a couple times on the trail and then try to pull my daughter along on the trailer...that way, I'll be way lighter during the triathlon. The swimming thing is very hard for me too but like with the running, I'm sure it will come with time. I don't think I'll ever be able to get to 20 laps (the distance for the longer tri I'm doing). The shorter one that is in June is .25 miles so it's about 8 laps and I can do that in about 11 mins.. but it's not pretty....some of it is side swimming... any possible way to get to the finish. I figured that with all the people in the lake, I won't be able to freestyle it anyway.

Re: Weight Watchers Runners - March 24-30
Jen~ I have a Trek hybrid and am hoping to upgrade this year. Put quite a few miles on it last year and two of my riding partners upgraded and now they leave me in the dust. How old is your daughter you pull? Thats a really good workout. You swim about the same as me, too. The mini tri I am doing is in a pool. Iron Girl is in a lake, but I missed the registration, so I am volunteering this year. Figured it would help me see it from the inside and be better prepared next year for it. OMG, I just read that you are doing Iron Girl!!! WTG!!! I will be there!!! Have you done much of anything prior to this? Where are you located?
