Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 23rd

Good evening everyone! I did my 20 min run this afternoon. Nice and easy, about 1.8 miles. The run started off kind of hard but after about 5 minutes I started to feel good. 30 min tomorrow.

Monnik, great job on the 3 mile run. Good to hear you're not hurting too! Good luck with DS running tonight.

Misswendy, nice run. It's been rather warm up here, I was going to ask which of you southerners left the door open. LOL! Are you a Johnny Depp fan? They were shooting a movie last week in Columbus, WI (about 45 min. from here). It was a ‘big thing' here. They're shooting for a new Johnny Depp movie called "Public Enemies". And, yes, he was here last week. Although the hordes that went to see him couldn't get very close because of all the security. I saw his picture in the paper though...

Runjr, great run! You've earned a rest day! I'm thinking real hard on it (San Antonio) I was there about 20 years ago and thought it was a great place. DD#3 said she'd be interested in going along (I doubt she'd run though). DD#2 will be 18 by then and who knows what she wants to do. The SA Half is in November, my first half in Green Bay is in May. I'm thinking of doing another half somewhere in the middle.

Toshi, Congrrats on the race! That was a great time!. I liked your picture race report. You must be a writer, because you do such a good job of reporting what is going on around you.

Laurel, You'll do fine! I suggest,if you can hold yourself back (LOL), that you run those 17.5 miles as easy as you can. Save your effort for the race! Oh yeah and drink plenty of water the day before. Get a lot of sleep on Friday night. (but you already knew that)

Misswendy and Chuck, great advice! If it's not fun, why do it?

Well that's all for me, I'm headin to bed! Good luck to everyone on your runs tomorrow! Everyone resting, rest easy!

Kevin

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 23rd

macd019 & marflair - the RR bed is a great surface to run on. We had a ton of rain the week prior to the race, and I was worried the path would be soft and slow. TO my surprise it was very firm. Eventhough it is crushed stone, you can still push off well. I really like the give under foot. Seems to cushion the impact. I plan to do my long runs on the path.

monnik - I'm glad you are able to increase your running to 3x per week.

Kevee - running again!!

runjr - Great pace. I guess your snow has melted. 8:17!!

Ispence037 - I am no expert, but I did an 8 miler two days prior to my half. That same day I had a very physical day working also. I think I drank 2 gallons of water the day before. I ran a PR 5k a couple years ago and I was sick for a couple days prior to the race and did no running. I guess do what feels right. I know a big part of race prep for me in mental. You have done a 12 miler, so you know that you can go the distance. Whatever training you do race week, spend some time getting your head right. YOU are going to kick butt.

Wendy! - Just a stroll in the park. Great 6 miler.

Toshi - Thanks for the pics and race report. This might sound strange, but I spread my Mothers ashes there near Fort Baker, just up the hill from the yatch club. Seeing your great pictures of the Bay and the Golden Gate was nice. Great race results also!

I ran for 35 minutes tonight, it felt like 3.5 to 4 miles. I did not push it, I just took off slowly and ran no particular course.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 23rd

You guys are awesome! Thanks for all of the advice - I will certainly revise my training next week a bit & drink water, water, water!!! I definitely plan to walk through water stops - so I won't need my H2O belt?? what do you think?

met my running buddy this a.m. - first time since the 10K - we ran 5.5M today. So, I'll either rest tomorrow (have a bit of an ache on medial right calf) or will run 3.5M (as was scheduled today) - have moved the 7M run to thursday...

Have a fantastic day!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 23rd

I got in a 4 mile run yesterday with my DD in a jogger. I can't believe that she's really too big for it.
The
tires were flat on the jogger. I was slow but at t least I got it in. I
have learned from my stats that I can't schedule a race when my Aunt
Flo is in town. Im as slow as a turtle.

DID SOMEONE SAY JOHNNY DEPP??? I love me some Johnny Depp. best movie=Finding Neverland!

SpiceGeek, Laurel and McD-hope you are ALL feeling better

SpiceGeek-cool website. What is that? A game?

Laurel-I've
heard about a lot of folks that have GI issues after long runs. Its a
common thing, if that makes you feel any better!

Kevin-come on down to Texas. San Antonio should be a lot of fun. Now if we can just recruit some more folks.

Toshi- Great pics.

Jeff-Snowboarder
eh? Well, someone has to do that. (HA) Sorry, im one of those purists
that is still trying hard to like sharing a mountain with snowboarders.
I never thought I would see the day when Taos let ya'll on the
mountain. It is just so dangerous. A kid in our group cracked his head
pretty good on this trip and ended up in a ER in Denver.

On
drinking water during a race: I have been practicing because my last
race I didnt want to stop so I ended up with a bunch of water up my
nose. I figured out that if you pinch the cup and make a spout you can
drink it more easily. Just like wendy said.

Wendy-step away from the chocolate. Put
your hands in the air. So where you going this summer? Im up for a trip to San
Diego or Santa Barbara.

Joe- Did you register already? I saw it goes up on 3/31. Im wondering if I should buy an extra concert ticket.

Okay, Im off for 6.

Bye all! Happy running!

Joe- I decided no go on the concert tickets. Im sure that I wont feel like doing that after my run! My 6 was good. Felt great to actually be really running although my Garmin logged it as 10 miles. I think it started when I was driving!

Where is EVERY ONE?

Later!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 23rd

Good afternoon everyone! I'm got an easy 30 min run this afternoon. Should be great for running, upper 40's and sunny.

JeffRW, nice easy run! Those are what I try to do, also. Yep! I'm off and running, although coach wants all the runs to be real easy this week!

Laurel, Nice run! If it were me I'd do the scheduled run for Thursday, and skip the 7 mile run. If you did the 7 mile run on Thursday, you'd be doing 3 of your longest runs of the week in 4 days. I don't think the ‘taper' will hurt you. You wouldn't want you to start over-working yourself at this stage of the game (or training). Just my 0.02 cents.

Joe, yeah what's the story, I think we should dock you some of your pay! The nerve, staying away from the forum for a day... LOL!

Andahuff, nice run, and way to add resistance to your running; let the air out of the jogger's tires. LOL! Yeah! What I can do is drive down to San Antonio 3-4 days before the race, picking up Runjr, Mary, Monnik, Macd019 should be healed by then, Sheila and Jeff on the way! Maybe even some others! Of course my Honda Civic wouldn't be big enough for all of us, so I could maybe charter a motor coach! LOL. I'm seriously considering the race though...

Misswendy, Good job getting in the run! Too bad about DS, kids, ya gotta love ‘em! Wow, ‘flamin hot cheeto'. I guess that explains all those girls getting off the freeway at Columbus last week! LOL!

Time to go back to work! ‘Talk' to ya tonight. Good luck to everyone running today!

Kevin

Does anyone else find active's registration to be a pain in the butt? I keep getting the same error message I got on the Blue Bell run. It is SO frustrating I finally stamped it and dumped it in the snail mail.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 23rd

Hi all,

Starting to taper for my race Sunday. Did some X-training this week, I try not to run the week before races, rest and recover for race day instead.

Just wanted to try something -- inserting link to Sundays race here in Austin TX,

Hope it works ---> Cap10K race info

Laurel - If temps are warm on race day you may consider carrying some water, just in case.

Chuck - rest up and feel better

Everyone - good training or rest
