Hey guys,
I just wanted to give you MCMers an extra thank you. You really helped me stay positive and bounce back from the bike accident last month. The time has come once again for me to cash in on all my training and throw down on Saturday in the CA 70.3 What do you all have in store for training this weekend? Long runs, races, fellow weekend warrior-like activities... Community Development Specialist | Endurance Sports

Toby! You're crazy! And we love crazy here! Don't break a leg, but have an awesome race and be sure to come back and tell us all about it!

Re: Weekend Preview
Good luck this weekend, Toby! Have a superb race. Post the results afterward!
I'm bowing out of the national marathon. The hype is actually scaring me away. When I looked at the results from last year there were something like 1100+ runners. They're saying "thousands" and "7000" runners will be running this weekend. While no MCM, Chicago, or Disney, I'm skeptical of that hype. NBC is the TV sponsor and I think they're just trying to do their job and promote the race. For 2007 there were 807 men and 372 women finishers. A far cry from 7000. Plus they're still asking for volunteers. The last thing I want is fewer hydration stops and a lack of water when I hit mile 22! If it turns out to be a great race, maybe next year. But right now I'm training and resting up for the Cherry Blossom 10 miler next week and CMM on April 26th. So I'm up for a 20 miler on Sunday. Obsessed with running and racing. It's all about the bling, baby! Suck it up and RUN!
Re: Weekend Preview
Good luck Toby!
The reported predicted numbers for a small or mid sized marathon are almost always exagerated. National's website has a "pre-registrants" page. The bib numbers for the half and full combined go up to 6999, hence "7000 expected". Copying and pasting their list into Excel shows 4,775. Add in expo registrants, subtract no shows, guessing low 4000's maybe. A lot of smaller races ask for volunteers until the last minute. I wouldn't worry about it. There's still time, Jerry! Good luck, Toby! You are THE MAN! Can't wait to hear about it! I'm with my kids' school at an academic competition in San Antonio, but I've routed out a 3.5-mile route from my hotel. Plan is to run 12 tomorrow morning before heading to the competition. That's the plan anyway. Look, Active finally added signature lines!
