Cara awesome pictures, your Mountain pictures and climbing makes mine looks like cupcakes. Beautiful country , thanks. You know this is an awesome group of people we have gathered here. A lot of talent. Good luck on your new job. I spent the week before Easter on a Mountain, uh hill compared to yours and have pictures in last weeks post if you'd like to see mine.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 30th

chuck--I've been thinking about a full also but I'd have to find someone to train with, I honostly don't think I could do all of those long runs on my own. I said I would like to do one before I turn 45 so I still have a couple of years

spicegeek--glad to hear your getting around good, take it easy

misswendy--sounds like your having a great time at the cabin. I've already called my running buddies, I think we are going to go see the movie Friday night.

andahuff--glad you had a good LSD, it took me awhile to get the concept all slow runs but they are nice aren't they
I'm glad you liked the G2, it works really well for me also. My dd loves it too

chuck, I lost a toenail after my last half also. I think it is kinda funny although it doesn't look very good when your wearing flip flops
Glad to hear you and Ashley are doing good

runjr, if you can keep that pace for the whole 1/2 that will be awesome

cara--loved the pics, man everyone taking these little trips, Sighhhh I need a vacation
Good luck on your first day at work, the first day is always the worst.

misswendy--great pics

talk to everyone later

Sheila

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 30th

spicegeek....when DD was 1 month old, DH had his gallbladder out. we lived in a tiny 'town' in northeast ms. we traveled to a small 'hospital' about 15miles north for emergency surgery. the next morning, a lady came in and told DH he had a really nasty looking gallbladder. turns out not only was she a technician at the hospital lab, she was also the social columnist for our town in the county newspaper. she wrote all the local gossip---thankfully she left it out of the paper, but the word did get around!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 30th

Hey everyone! I have been MIA for a while. I haven't been running. Well, I started yesterday. I have been slammed at work with two back to back trials. Me and my daughter are running a 5K this weekend. It looks like everyone is doing great. Some awesome pictures. Beautiful. In Houston, we don't have much scenary.

Well, I will try and post more, I promise.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 30th

Hello everyone! I did a 20 min REAL easy run this morning. Everything felt great with the shoes, but we'll see how it goes over the next couple of days. I still had a little soreness with the right Achilles. Coach wants me to stay at 20 min runs the next couple of days. And run pretty easy.

Joe, yeah the time is going by really quickly! I can't believe I'm only 6 weeks from my half.

Chuck, Great race. And it's good you had a great time too. I think with the water, I'd always want to err on the side of OVER-hydrating, especially if its hot. You can always come back and try and race faster, but sometimes you can't come back from dehydration.

I think you'd do well in a full marathon. From what I've heard though the training is (can be) really intense.

Shiela, great news on the ‘no shin pain'. It's got to make the run so much better.

Spicegeek, I'm glad to hear you're recovering well. Yeah, I don't know. DD#3 told me the first time she saw me in the tights, "Dad I can see everything, gross". Kind of embarrassing, really! LOL

Misswendy, It's great you had some good family time this weekend.

Andahuff, Good job on the 8 miles. Well said on the Long SLOW Distance. I was surprised, training slowly on all my runs and adding some moderate effort hill runs, how fast I could go in my races.

Runjr, Nice run! You should do great on your half! Are you going to start tapering?

Cara, Welcome back! It's wonderful that you had a good vacation. Those were some beautiful pics! You must've had a really good time. Good luck on your new job tomorrow!

Sheila, I think you'd also do well in a full maration!

Peg, nice to hear your back! Good luck on the 5k this weekend!

Well I gotta go. Everyone have good runs tomorrow! Those resting, rest easy!

Kevin

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 30th

hey Misswendy, very nice pictures, beautiful family. I love to go canoing. My toe nails have been purple sense my first Half in Pensacola. I'm just now loosing them. I think the toe box of my Pearls are to tight. Other than that they have been good shoes.

Joe, I've talked to Ashley and we're thinking of coming to SA. That movie starts slow but it was funny to me. Everyones talking about going to see it now makes me hope yall like it.

Sheila I know what you mean about needing a Vacation. Might take a few days to go see my son or go to South Carolina with Ash.

Runjr, from looking at your training runs I think your pace goal is very doable. I bet you have some left for the last mile also. You've been training very hard and I hope you hit your goal.

Kevin, hope you're doing good this weekend. You got anymore races coming up? I've got to go to drivers school Tuesday so I'll miss my group run, was going a little to fast one day! OOOOPPPPS 65 in a 45 but it just changed from a 55.

well getting close to bedtime. See yall later.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 30th
Hi all,
Just got ds's soccer schedule and found out he has a 3 day tournament the weekend of the Green Bay half that I was thinking about doing. Guess I miss this half - he would hate for me to miss his tourney. I do still plan to do the 20 K run on May 3 in Madison. Ds is really getting into soccer - he just went through soccer ref training so he can ref the "little kid" games.
Cara, your pics are gorgeous. It looks like you got quite a workout. We have no mountains near us - the only thing missing from our beautiful countryside here in Wisconsin.
Wendy, loved your pics - your kids are adorable.
Chuck, glad you and Ashley are working things out. It is great that you are being so supportive for your nephew. Congrats on your race - I can't imagine doing a 10K in 54 minutes!
Anda, don't know how interesting it is at 3 a.m. - I love my job but the 12 hour night shifts are tough. I find it much easier to drink from my water belt bottles than from the little cups.
HI Peg. I hate it when work interferes with life and running.
Spicegeek, I would love to lose 8 lbs - maybe I should consider the gall bladder diet, LOL!
Sheila, Joe, Spicegeek, and Chuck - I need to tell you that I will not be joining you on marathon training but I will cheer you on. I can't imagine going any farther than a half! I think 10 K is my favorite distance and the half is challenging enough for me to really feel like I've really accomplished something!
HI to everyone else. Strength training day for me today. Hope to get an outdoor run in tomorrow between rain storms.
Mary

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 30th
hi all hope everyone is ready for Monday. Looks like a gym day tomorrow or maybe a lunch run.

cara - great pics and welcome back. That looks like weather I'm familar with. Good luck with your new job.

misswendy - looks like a fun trip. It looks rather warm outside. My DD and DW ave been spring clothes shopping for weeks and have built quite the summer wardrobes. Everything still has tags on them because of the weather.

sheila - we can train over this forum. If we get on the same schedule it might be doable.

spicegeek - love to hear your goals. I know you and have no doubt you will succeed.

joe - you start tomorrow running again?

kevee - this week early will be some of my typical runs. Next week I'm out of town for work all week and it will be a good time to taper as it will be tough to get outside at all. I hope to get up early before all day meetings for my running. What shoes did you try?

chuck - my only concern is that I have never raced before. This will be all new. I sure wish I had your experience.

take care all.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 30th
runjr, don't sell yourself short, you'll do fine. Know the pace you want and watch your Garmin and maintain it, don't let the race pace you. Just run your race like a training run and enjoy. Misswendy had a good point about the drinking cups you pinch it to make a sipping port and drink it that way. I'm getting it down but that part is rough on me. When I ran my Half's 2 years ago I did not stop and did that and it worked. Just do what you do and you'll be great. Just don't get caught up in the excitement of the race and start and go out to fast. Run your race.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 30th
SHEILA - so glad your shins are healed now! good job on the yoga - I love yoga! So relaxing for the mind & a good workout too - can't beat that one! Did you find anything fun to do today? Rainy Sundays can be cozy!

SPICEGEEK - happy to hear you're feeling better! WOW! you had quite a week last week, didn't you?!?

MISSWENDY - ah...sounds like a nice weekend with the family - good for you!! Love the pics! Your daughter looks SO much like you, don't you think? The pic with your DD and DH making "crazy faces" is great! Your son is so doggone cute too! Red hair & blue eyes? Thanks for sharing...what a fun momma you are! your kids are fortunate...

ANDAHUFF & RUNJR - awesome 8M today! I'll live vicariously through you guys, as that was on my schedule for today...boo-hoo! Now, which one of you wants to run the HM in my place next weekend?? not looking favorable...

CARA - incredibly gorgeous scenery - beautiful pics - thx for sharing with us. excited for you to begin your new job tomorrow - hope all goes well!

PEG - hey, girl! great hearing from you - enjoy the 5K with your DD!

KEVIN - glad you got new shoes. did you end up rock climbing with your DDs over the weekend? hang in there & keep at it, ok?

JOE - enjoy getting back to the gym!

JEFF, MARY, MACD - thx for the encouragement! how are you guys? MARY - how old is DS?? Bummer about the Green Bay HM - the 20K in May sounds good! YAY for you! MACD - did you make it home OK?

STAN - I know, I know...NO MORE ICE FOR ME! Luckily my 5yo DD that knocked me down says she, "Doesn't like ice skating!" So, perhaps we won't try that again for a while...or DH can take her - she just overwhelmed me with her full body weight! I don't know if the doc with want a repeat CT - I went by the EC yest. to pick up the head CT report and they gave me a CD with the CT images - was quite cool. I could certainly appreciate the superficial swelling (parietal lobe)...still with headache! So glad you are doing better - you have donw such a great job sticking with exercise & getting creative. I'm really proud of you - all of the cross-training & "mixing it up" most likely helps w/wt. loss b/c I've heard that one tends to plateau with similar training over time.

STEPHANIE - Yes, you can do it! I know about mental games...your training sounds like it's going well. Just keep going - put in the runs for each week & before you know it, you'll be ready! Truly (just don't hit your head on anything the week before, like I have!).

OKAY, so to update you guys, I'm continuing to have headaches & lots of fatigue. Although a less severe concussion due to no loss of consciousness , the symptoms are lingering 3 days later...so, I'm preparing myself that it's possible that it may not be in my best interest to run the HM next Sunday. (still quite resistant to the thought!) However, I haven't even felt like going walking. Have only done housework & taken care of the DDs out of neccessity. Who knew? The swelling is way down & I have an appt. with my primary doc tomorrow afternoon. Think I might stay home until then. Thanks for the well-wishes and kindness. You are all such gems - for whom I am grateful!

Have a very happy, fulfilled week. Run on...Laurel
