Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 30th

hey spicegeek...love wallace and gromit. hope you are back to normal soon. fyi, i rarely get to eat donuts. usually kashi cereal w/milk. KK donuts just sounds more glamorous.

kevee...what is chocolate banana yogurt bread?

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 30th

Misswendy, near as I can tell, this is what I ate;

http://find.myrecipes.com/recipes/recipefinder.dyn?action=displayRecipe&recipe_id=549763

I can't say for sure, as I stopped at one of those drive-through coffee places after my race. Since this was low fat, I added a Large Quad-Caramel Macchiato for something to 'wash it down'. Needless to say, I didn't sleep for awhile... LOL

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 30th
here are some other marathons i have considered. i cant be sure if any of them will be doable. you know me and numbers....dates....times....pace...etc......

mobileal last year's site. recommended to me as a flat course good for first time.

basspro jeffrw mentioned this one

msgulfcoast look down the chart to november 29. there is not a website yet for this one.

tupelo idk if this one is hilly.

here's a half that is new and i may get to run this summer... renaissancehm

DH is still thinking we could do SA. im not sure i want to.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 30th

joe....just call me hyperchick...um, what you said about bandwidth. is that like the size of musical group? idk. on SA and other races: it is difficult for me to decide anything. i have to really ponder for a long while. not sure why that is for me. moi? stirring the pot? hmmmm

runjr...i think when the guy says go, you should go. i started near the front--it was a huge race though. behind the elites--maybe 10 ppl deep?--after the signal we sort of walked up to the chip mat and then took off. the spreading out took about a mile? maybe. of course, i was being passed, rather than passing. soon i realized what 'middle of the pack racer' meant! you sound like me worrying about stuff like that. just pick a spot and run y our race. you'll be dressed so well everyone will move over and let you pass just to be able to watch you run by with ease.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 30th

Wow, it seems this group has gotten chattier than ever! I've gotten way behind...... have enjoyed catching up, tho!

spicegeek, I don't know how you got motivated to do all that core & upper body work during your (first) recovery--I am becoming more slug-like every day that this knee thing drags on. It's finally to the point where I can almost walk normally, at least for a little while--but it tires quickly and then I find myself limping (either that, or I'm too impatient to go as slowly as I need to to not limp). I've been doing my PT and a few cautious rides on the exercise bike, but that's all the motivation I've had. Discouraging. Anywa--glad to hear you are recovering. Have an awesome time in Hawaii!! Can't wait to see the underwater pics!

chuck, your surgery is for real? Sorry to hear about that--sending you well wishes for a speedy recovery!

kevin, glad to hear you're feeling better--hope it continues to improve. That banana-chocolate yogurt bread sounds awesome!

runjr, you sound nervous already--don't be, you are way more ready than so many first-time halfers!

laurel, I'm glad to hear you are improving, and agree you're making a wise decision to wait for a different race.

misswendy, as the only (?) hoosier on this thread... that lake county hm would have been small. and, this year at least, CHILLY!

marflair--think you mentioned at the end of the last thread having a daughter in first year of law school? My older DD is also, younger is the med student. We said we'd cover undergrad and they'd be on their own for grad school, but dad has a soft(er) spot for the younger one (who only worked a year in between, older worked 3), so we are helping as we can...

twogirls, welcome! what half are you training for? I was doing Hal Higdon's novice program before tearing cartilage in my knee a month ago (non-running related)... sounds like we would have been at about the same point. I'm a transplanted New Englander and have had my eye on the Maine Coast HM in Sept. Not sure when I will be back to running now, though.

joe, glad to hear your knee is doing better--don't push it too much! A month of non-running strengthening sounds like a good plan.

cara, loved your vacation pics, and glad the new job is going well. Hopefully the travel won't last for too long!

I'll try to catch up with the rest of you later... have a great evening!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 30th
hi all got in 5.5 miles this afternoon. Ran the first two miles slower than two miles under 8:10 pace and finished at normal pace. Overall average pace of 8:40. Felt good today and another decent day outside.

spicegeek - this trip is coming at a great time! The next two weeks are going to be so awesome for you. I'm so happy for you!

kevee- I had made some banana bread the other night and had it after my run today. That is still my favorite snack, besides donuts, however I force myself not to eat the donuts. I took it easier in the beginning and end of the run. After Saturday I will use your words of wisdom (taking it easy).

joe - I think I will start with the pack. Waiting for everyone to leave the starting line, the crowd will assume that I am some kind of elite runner and then when this turtle takes off they will all laugh.

misswendy - too many races for me to decide as well. I take them a month at a time. I think you were correct .....when the members of a musical group, called a band, get together in a straight line the distance from one end to the other is considered bandwidth. :^0

macd - you will be back soon. You are making progress so don't be discouraged. It is better you are not pushing too much early on anyway.

take care all.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 30th

hey everyone, go another 4.2 miles in tonight. Ran this one slow and easy.41:45. Used it as a recovery type run. I'm liking this 4 mile loop I got. Peaceful run. Wanting to run more days a week to bring my weight down. Tired of being fat! I'll do shotouts tomorrow . Oh and yes my surgery is real, I wouldn't pick about that, the shoe thing on the other hand was a joke.

Have a good night all

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Mar 30th

Hello everyone! I did my 45 min (3.66 mi) run this evening. The run felt really good. And even better, I didn't feel any complaints from my Achilles.

Joe, no problem. I hope you can get back into running soon!

Macd, yeah that recovery has to be frustrating. The longest I‘ve had to go without running was 3 weeks due to Achilles injury last summer. Otherwise it's only been a couple days here or there. Hope you can get back to running soon too! The bread IS awesome. Hopefully I'll be able to do the 10K on the 12^th^. My post race treat will be enjoyable, to be sure! LOL

Runjr, Good run, and I couldn't agree more about the weather. It's nice having some ABOVE normal (+5 degrees today) temps for a change. I have to start taking it easy on the snacking. I've put on a few pounds over the last 3-4 weeks. Since I haven't been doing as much running I forgot to eat less. You a TURTLE! Now that's FUNNY. LOL

Joe, yeah I heard something about that (Brett, not retiring), I'll just wait and see, come July, who shows up for training camp. I'll have to check that show out. I like everything to do with cooking. I just can't do it very well. LOL

Sheila, good work on the xtraining!

Chuck, Nice run. I didn't think you'd want to kid about something like surgery. Good luck with that!

Wow, It didn't take much to keep up today. I only had to ‘log-in' 4 times!
