You step away from the board for just a few days, and look what happens!
Colleen, that is absolutely wonderful, and I am in awe of all the things you have accomplished in the last few months. You have done everything the "right" way, which is the hardest way, and maintained a great outlook through it all. You are back at your goal and well trained for a marathon.
Some good questions posted too. As for walk breaks, I definitely take them on longer runs, and I time them with street crossings, or when I need to eat some beans, or a bathroom break on really long runs. I used to hate stopping, because I hated the feeling in my knees when I started again, but I've gotten past that now. As far as even pacing, it's an acquired skill I think to learn to hold yourself back in the beginning, and push at the end in order to maintain a consistent pace. But jsut like it's more fuel efficient to keep your car at one speed rather than brake and accelerate, it's easier on your body that way too.
Darlene - great job on your run, and glad the Superfeet are working out. Thanks for all the great foam roller tips! I've seen others use them, but you have so many good ideas. I also miss the WW cereal, but I have just gotten into Fiber One. NYC should be in bloom by next week - let's hope. I thnk the brand sock I wear is Racer, but I can't remember for sure. They have a grey toe. Do you have the rest of your long runs planned out until it's your taper time!?
Melanie - we keep missing each other on the board this week. Have a great time at Disney! But here's my big question, how do you keep from going back for more Lucky Charms? Sometimes, even Fiber One is a trigger food for me, and I want another bowl. Hope your job interview went well - sounds like a good opportunity.
redfoxfan - Since you're a rockstar, can we be your groupies?! Seriously, you are doing so well, and even though you're getting ready for surgery, you're still going strong. How is Core going?
Bodacious - Salmon Tabouleh sounds so good! Maybe I'll make that this weekend. How is the leg? Can you come to my house to declutter - I could use some help!
*life*- Cold Stone is awesome, I love getting peanut butter mixed in. Glad you are getting a day off to relax and celebrate!
thisyear - you'd be crazy if you weren't a little nervous, a marathon is big! But you certainly CAN do it and I've heard that's a great race, including a chocolate mile I think? Anyway, the most important thing to develop now I think is consistency. Get yourself on a good schedule and stick to it. I also love those pumpkin muffins, although I haven't made them in a while.
mdgirl - I think you're fine to train for a 10k in May. As long as you're comfortable with the walk/run method if you need to use it towards the end, I'd go for it! You have some time to extend one run a week, and usually the crowd and excitement can get you through the tough parts.
rogue - I know, we are a chatty bunch! It's so great to see all the energy floating around here lately.
OK, as for me, my OP streak was broken. Not in a Big Mac & Fries kind of way, but one too many granola bar, glass of wine, second bowl of Fiber One I didn't need kind of way. I ran a quick 3 miles this morning (quick mostly because I woke up late again!) Looking for a good OP weekend though, and the long run APs on Saturday always help.
Off to bed for me, sweet dreams of running effortlessly with a calorie free ice cream sundae bar at the end.
