Looking for the 666 on my son's head...

Seriously, I thought it was the terrible two's? My 3 year old has just started these unbelievable tantrums. At the store the other day he saw something he wanted I said no and oh lord what followed was unreal - can't believe I lived through it with my hearing and sanity intact...my 4 year old had to use the potty at the very same time so I had to bring him screaming pulling his hair and poking his own eyes to the bathroom. People were walking up to me asking what they could do to help. I saw the pity in their eyes...Lucky for me I guess I have been ignoring people for a long time so the active ignoring advice is working for me. Thing is I feel so bad for HIM. He is all sweaty and tired when he is done that he falls right to sleep afterwards. Usually I just sit next to him while he flips out for usually about an hour, whenever I try to calm or soothe him it makes him more furious so I do nothing have any of you found anything that works? He is such a good sweet boy when he is not in the middle of one of these tantrums...

That's good that people offered to help. Parents magazines must be getting around.

Some people don't do this, and some people don't want to hear it, but for some kids, a swift swat on the behind does the trick.

ETA: after re-reading your post...have you had your child evaluated? The poking the eyes and hair pulling are sticking out to me. Maybe that's normal, it's just that none of ours ever did that.

My daughter had those and we found that she was more like that if her blood sugar was low. We never tested her sugar but noticed when she hadn't eaten in a while then she would have some major tantrums. Once she ate she was fine. She too is very sweet but when she gets upset watch out.

When my brother had tantrums (44 years ago), the doctor told my mother to spash a cup of water in his face. And it worked!

must be some old school theory because my mom was told the same thing with my sister. she had to do it twice...and she never had another tantrum.

but i'm not sure i could do that to my kid, either!

My mom used to throw a glass of water on my brothers when they would get into a physical fight. But they were in the double digits by the time she thought this one up. I never got the glass of water b/c I was an angel.

My brothers would be pretty ****** at first, but then everyone would bust out laughing b/c it was so ridiculous.

Ahhh, good times.

Could you mush a cold wet rag in his face? Works like a charm.

I don't spank as punishment, but I will spank to shut a situation down. A lot of times spanking in public can get you harassed so I learned a little about pressure points. A hard press at the base of thumb gets the kids attention just as much as a spanking, but no public show of violence. Looks like you're grabbing your kid by his hand.

Definitely get him checked regarding the hair pulling/eye poking. That may be cause for concern.

Holy **** DT!...you may be on to something...has he been allowed to watch the Fox News Channel?
