Hi
I am currently studying for exams which i will sit at the end of May/June and i am unable to train as much as i would like (apart from that i have a full time job and a wife at home pregnant with twins). Even though races are beginning this month i have opted to not take part in them for two reasons (a) i really dont feel ready for them both mentally and physically and (b) anything outside 'base type endurance" training leaves me quite exhausted and calls for a much longer recovery window.
What i am interested in finding out is if i should just do a long 'prep/base1/2 style' block until mid june when i would then be able to move to base 3 in view of the races over the summer. i usually see best results (i take part in sprint/Olympic distance races) when i train each discipline 3 times a week with a weight session thrown in the mix. Will reducing my training sessions to 2 per discipline over the next couple of months be detrimental to my already accumulated fitness and mess up the rest of the year? I have actually been called up to my country's national team (not really a big deal as i am from Cyprus with a pop of under a mill) and there are some big races in august-september on the european circuit.
