Re: Softball Movies
Good question. Does MTV's Rock and Jock Softball count? Others that come to mind: -There's the 1937 movie "GIrls Can Play" directed by Lambert Hillyer. "The Hollywood Post's sports writer, Jimmy Jones (Charles Quigley), yearns to be a crime reporter, and thus looks for foul play on even the most routine assignments. In writing a piece about a girl's softball team, Jimmy discovers that their sponsor, Foy Harris (John Gallaudet), is a notorious racketeer who has supposedly gone straight. Jimmy suspects Foy is still up to no good. He begins hanging around the team to do a bit of snooping, and also to be near the cute new pitcher, Ann Casey." -1980 movie "Squeeze Play: " A male softball team is challenged by a female softball team to see who is best. -And the 2005 movie "Beer League". That's all I got. Any others I missed?
Re: Softball Movies
Ya know, my initial reaction was..."how could you forget A League of Their Own!?"
But that is clearly about women playing baseball. Guess it shows how even a huge fan of softball and that movie can get caught up in the gender norm associated with baseball and softball. Along that note... has anyone watched men's fastpitch softball?? Amazing.
I had the same reaction! Thankfully I thought about it for a second before posting. I hadn't heard much about men's fastbitch softball so I wanted to see what I could find on YouTube. I found a pretty good video from the American Challenge Series in Oklahoma City that invited Men's Fastpitch teams from around the globe. Interesting stuff.
