Possibly a silly questions re: shoes.

I went to a running store today and got some new shoes. I ran about 3/4ths of a mile tonight and started getting a blister on my ankle. Should I take them back or do I just need to break them in? I don't know if running shoes need to be broken in like other shoes or they should be fine from the beginning. Thanks!

The conventional wisdom is that you shouldn't have to break in properly fitted running shoes. That said, my experience has been that sometimes new shoes need some adjustment. Specifically, I've had to modify the lacing patterns on my shoes to prevent pain and blisters.

You could always head back to the store and see if they can suggest some adjustments. If they're any good at all, they'll either make some adjustments or let you exchange your shoes for a pair that work better for you.
