OK, Immer is running the pig and Ron & Charlie are running Frederick this weekend if I remember correctly.
Anyone else? Any other races?
I just found one that's running along my normal weekend long run route but registration is closed. I was half tempted to run an easy half. It's probably best that it was closed. ![]()
I'm doing the Minnie 15K at Disney on Sunday. This is the last year they're doing it so I've done all three.
(I'm not looking at it as a race, I'm running it with some friends)
Kathy is doing the Long Branch Half. I'm in NJ Marathon/Long Branch Half limbo.
OK, Immer is running the pig and Ron & Charlie are running Frederick this weekend if I remember correctly.
I'm also running Frederick!
OK, boys and girls, we have the weather forecast for this week's races:
Cincinnati where pigs fly!
Sunday morning, low of 50, high of 63, mostly cloudy. PERFECT.
Frederick:
Sunday morning: low of 56, high of 75, 30% chance of showwers: GOOD POTENTIAL
Orlando:
Sunday morning: low of 69, high of 88, 40% of scattered thunderstorms: FREAKIN' FLORIDA ![]()
Philadelphia:
Sunday morning: low of 53, high of 72, 40% of thunder showers: GOOD POTENTIAL
Long Branch, NJ:
Sunday morning: low of 50, high of 62, 40% of thunder showers: GOOD POTENTIAL
Good luck to Craig, Kathy, Ron, Charlie, Len, Immer, Karen, and Jay this weekend. I may not be able to run but you can bet I'll be trying to capture their real-time results! PR's all around.
Thanks Jerry for the weather update and your well wishes. I'm sure we all will try our best! ![]()
You get well and kick that sickness to the curb!
Thanks, Charlie.
Fluids and rest are in order now. And that zicam stuff.
Think you can pull out a sub 4 this weekend, Charlie or do you need some coaching? I know this guy who can run a sub 4. . .
WOO HOO!
Run like the wind!
Good potential of what, getting struck by lightning??
As long as the rain pauses long enough, it actually is good for a half, which is what my body is currently telling me to do. Upper 40's to low 50's is what I consider marathon perfect, but the Pig's weather does look good. Thanks Jerry! Feel better!
Good luck Kathy, Karen, Immer, Charlie, Jay, Ron, and Mrs. Ron!
Thank you all for the well wishes...I can guarentee you I will break 4 hrs- ofcourse for a half thats not saying much. Im hoping if it rains its a nice rain- no lightning or torrential rain for me please. Im out there a long time so I really dont want to put up with nast y stuff. I will be using the garbage bag trick- and packing dry socks in my fanny pack instead of gu. Its so nice you all are so supportive of everyone- any suggestions on what to wear for a rainy half are welcome.
Thanks for the good wishes Jerry & Craig. Craig, a half sound right to me too. I had a pretty good 5 miles today so Sunday is looking better. But I'm not making predictions at this point. I'll know Sunday about 10 AM.
We've come this far and it's still the same,
Runnin' out here in the rain.
Just one more mile, if only you could fly.
(Apologies to T. Rush and J. Tempchin, for the paraphrase)
Thanks everyone for the well wishes and weather reports! (But Craig, Mrs. Ron might get you slapped! At least make it Ms Ron!) And good luck to everyone else running this weekend, even where the pigs fly!
Charlie and Jay - hope I get to meet you guys at the race. If you hear someone near the finish tell you to "Suck it up!" you'll know it's me! (Jay, a little background: this goes a ways back, but Jerry and others lived by the Suck it Up! motto for the MCM - to the extent that many of them were running with actual straws on them so that other forum members might recognize them)
BTW, Saturday I'll probably hit the expo sometime around 4:30. My daughter has a violin lesson at 3:30, and we'll head over after that. After the expo, I think we're planning on eating at Brewer's Alley on Market Street (this is the main downtown strip, Charlie). They've got a great homemade mac n cheese topped with Virginia Ham that seems like a great carbo loading option. I imagine the beer there is really good, too, but I don't happen to drink.
'97 Chicago Marathon 4:26:30
'07 Marine Corps Marathon 4:00:50
'08 Wineglass Marathon 3:53:29
'09 Illinois Marathon 3:46:22

To add a little to Ron's history lesson, I even have a shirt that I developed for the MCM last year available on Zazzle. I did it for myself but others have bought it as well (I have no idea who they are!) Basically the MCM logo on the front chest "pocket" area and some very large letters with "Suck it up and RUN!" on the back. As a way of identifying each of us from the group, Sara (thefirecat) handed out straws at dinner the night before the race. I think it was Jimmy who thought handing out straws to his young marines was a good idea.
To commemorate the anniversary, I'll wear my suck it up and run shirt on race day yet again.
