First Triathlon Swim Question

I just signed up for my first Tri. The swim is a 500m indoor swim. I swim this distance in about 9 min in training. Should I add more time for the swim in my triathlon. I don't want to slow everyone else down my making them pass me. I aslo don't want to be on the heels of the person in front of me.

I was also wondering do you flip turn when you sharer a lane or should I just touch the wall and turn around?

    Re: First Triathlon Swim Question

Indoor tris have several different formats, none of which I've done.  I don't see a problem flip turning though.  500m in 9 minutes is a 1:48/pace.  I think that would put you ahead of most people.  Check to see how they start it.  I assume its some kind of wave system, I've seen some where they seed people according to speed.  I would assume you circle swim?  In any case at 1:48/100m, I don't think you really have much to worry about
