HopeRunningWild! Weeks 8/9

Hi everyone! I thought that it was way past time to start a new thread, so here it is. It sounds like most of you are nearing the end of the program and that is so exciting! I wish you all luck and hope that you stop in to post your progress. I am way behind so I am not nearly done yet but I am going to stick with it.

Let us know about your 5K's everyone! Hopebewild - It is wonderful that you finished your first 5K! I can't wait until I can run in a 5K. Well, I hope that everyone is doing well and still running! Let's here from you!

Beth

good idea starting a new thread beth! well i kind of lost track to where i was on the plan so im just gonna say i did w8d1 today. i only ran for 25 min tho.

where is everyone else at on the c25k? is anyone gonna immediately go on to something else? im thinking of just doing the 30 min thru may and then on june first starting the one hour runner deal. i really like hal higdons but ive been running for time not distance. but becaues i remember at least one of ya saying u were gonna do hal's next if enough of ya do it well then im just gonna have to follow the crowd! :D

Wow! I can't believe that our running group is one of those week 8/9 groups now! I never thought we'd get here! I love it..

Thanks for the new thread, Beth! I'm running w8d2 tonight or in the morning...I'll check back in then...

As for what I'm doing after c25k, I have no idea! I figured I'd just keep running 30-40 mins, 3 times a week through the summer...maybe some local 5k's, hopefully improving my time a little..

What other plans are out there? Hal Higdon? I only know him from his marathon plan??? no thanks :)

I'm 42, live in Augusta, GA. The program has gone really well although I guess I've stretched it out a bit due to travel. I'm very pleased with my progress so far. The early weeks were tough and it is hard to believe I can run 30 minutes straight now - though it isn't easy. I hit the 5k mark during the 28 minute runs (at least according to by IPod). I do a lot of walking too usually alternating walking and running days with one day off for a total of 30ish miles each week. Would like to continue with another program as it helps to have a plan for discipline's sake.

GLBryan, that is terrific! You are pretty fast! I am only at 2 miles after 30 mins! UGH! So slow! But that hasn't stopped me from signing up for a 5K...on May 10th! WE'll see how that turns out, but to be honest, I really don't care b/c back in Feb, those 60 second runs were killer, so this is all amazing to me!

So... I did my first 5K run today. Not good. :_| My goal was just to jog the whole thing but I had to walk a few times. First of all - I had a hard time keeping up with the last of the pack off the starting line. They all took off like they were being chased by wolves! So I was out of my comfort zone from the start. Then my asthma started bothering me because it was chilly outside. I didn't walk until about mile 2. Then jogged and walked the rest of the way in. The last 1/2 mile or so of the race was uphill. That wasn't good. Guess I have a long way to go still. I finished in 28 min. and some odd seconds but don't remember the exact time. It was a very humbling experience and made me very determined to do better at the next one. So I got on-line and found two more local ones to do. The next one if June 7. So for the next month I'm going to work harder during my workouts and add crosstraining activities on my "off" days. I WILL be more prepared next time. There was also a 10K at this event and as I was dragging my sorry body to the car to leave - in sprinted the first 10K finisher!! I asked one of the event workers and she said he runs for the local university team. I felt a little better knowing that. :)

Well - keep up the good work folks! I'm going to continue jogging 3 miles 3-4 times a week and add weights or something the other days. I really want to lose some weight before the next 5K also. I think that would help. Wish me luck!

Michele,

28 minutes is a good time for your first 5k, especially considering you walked a bit. You're averaging around a 9 minute mile. I think that's excellent. Well done!

Hope - thanks for posting the training plans! Those are really helpful. I need to decide where to go from here as well. I definitely want to work on my 5K time and be able to run the entire way next time.

Hey Everyone!

I have to write in to the new thread so I get notices of when people post-- I was wondering why nobody was writing! My running got a minor setback this week. It was just a weird week. I normally run m-w-f in the afternoons, but wed was my birthday. Actually, I would have liked to run on my birthday but had family getting together and couldn't find a way to fit it in. So I ran on Thursday and then planned to run today, but again ran into a snag today. I will run tomorrow and need to be flexible, but that will throw off my M-W-F for next week! UNLESS, I run two days in a row. Whatcha think everyone? I could make my run on day two a bit easier than on day one. My hubby says since I'm still building up my running, I should have a day off in between. Hmm, a dilemma.

Congratulation on your 5k time Michele! Actually, we've had a couple of people write in lately who have fast running paces. I'd like to get to that point! Really, I'd settle for just feeling better while I run. I'm losing a little weight and hoping that will help. I'd like to do a 5k too although if you were struggling while doing a 9 minute mile, that leaves me a bit intimidated. I'm sure there are some races that are lower key-- we have some around here where half the people walk. Of course, I would hate to be running the race and still in the middle of the walkers!! LOL

Keep up the good work everyone-- and let us know how you're doing!
