TRAILBLAZERS - Still Afloat?

Hey peeps, how did it go last week? I only did three of my scheduled runs. I just made Sunday's run into a longer slower run to make up the milage. I'm going to go on to Week #3 with HHST and see how that goes. But with no extra workouts...just walking. I need to let my body rest. I missed Thurs-Sat of last week from running/workingout as my knees were sore and I was just plain tired! It didn't feel like "I've lost the fire" feeling though. Just a "I am going to let my body repair" time. I felt the fire once again today and went on a nice long run. Very slow, but nice. I didn't have to even concentrait on air intake until the very end. Go me!

Come on gals, how's it going?

Re: TRAILBLAZERS - Still Afloat?

Hi Jill, I had a bad running week last week. I came down with the flu almost 2 weeks ago. I'm still recovering from it. I ran 3 miles Saturday on the 26th and shouldn't have. I had a fever and cough. I didn't run again until last Thursday (1.5 miles). This was after a 4-day break. My legs were like jello and my lungs burned. It was horrible. I did another one on Friday and it went a little better. I did 3 miles on Saturday. The last 10 minutes were killer, but I forced myself. I force myself because I don't want to get out of condition. Trying to get back into it even after a 4-day break wasn't fun. I felt like all the progress I had made was completely gone and I was starting over. I know some of that was from being weak from the flu, but still. I'm not enjoying the runs at all right now. It would be so easy to stop doing them altogether. I'm feeling very down about it. I had never been so sick yet I'm in better shape physically than I ever was. How could I even get so sick?

Re: TRAILBLAZERS - Still Afloat?

I'm still here and still running. I've adjusted my plan again. I found I wasn't really enjoying the running 3 days in a row and it started to feel like a chore. I also found it hard to fit in my weight training and I like doing my weights as well. So, I'm back to running 3x a week (T,Th,Sa) - 2 5K during the week and a long run on the weekend - for now, I'm just upping it 2 laps (.50K) until I reach a total 0f 10K. So far, I've done 6K running on Saturday. Then my M-W-F is for weight training and Sunday's I sleep in and do whatever I feel like. I'm much happier with this plan and it doesn't feel like there's so much pressure to get it done. I realize the pressure is all in my own head, but still, I didn't enjoy it. My 5K this morning was fabulous. It almost felt effortless - well until the end. I had to go on blood pressure meds about 2 weeks ago and I find it seems easier to run now - don't know if there's a connection or if it's all in my head, but I'm feeling great when I'm out there running!

Niki sorry you've been so sick. Sometimes it's our body's way of telling us to slow down, I guess. Still it's frustrating and if you have to start back running again slower or less distance, do it - you don't want to risk an injury, after all. One thing about it, you know you can do it, it'll just be a matter of time before you'r body is ready to do it again.

Jill, glad you're getting in some great runs and enjoying them.

Re: TRAILBLAZERS - Still Afloat?

Jordzmom, that's great you are adjusting the plan for you. To stick with it, it has to be enjoyable. It could be the blood pressure meds were what you needed. I have low blood pressure and I've been thinking maybe that is some of my problem energy-wise. Then when I run, my face gets beet red. Does that happen to you? It takes about an hour for the redness to go away.

I ran for 30 min. last night. That's about 3 miles. I am going back to running for time instead of distance. In my mind, it just seems easier right now. My body is finally starting to feel better during and after my runs.

I''m on vacation next week and will be in Virginia Beach. I'm hoping to get a run or two in there. It would be really cool to run along the beach on the boardwalk.

Re: TRAILBLAZERS - Still Afloat?

Have a great vacation! I don't get as red in the face as I once did and it seems to go away a little faster. But there were times when my face would still be read 2 hours later when I got to work!

Glad you're finding a way to make the program work for you too. The point is to keep running - whatever that may be for you.

Jill, good luck on your next race! Definitely save gas for it.
