Looking for a good treadmill

Hello,

My husband a I want to start running and we'd like to purchase a treadmill. There are so many choices we're a little bit lost. Can you recommend the best value? It's quite an investment and we'd like to start off on the right foot :) Thank you in advance for your recommendations!

Run on the road- it's free (that's what I'm doing now anyway) http://community.active.com/images/emoticons/grin.gif

However- about 5 years ago we purchased the http://smoothfitness.com/treadmills/ treadmill. We have the 7.1 model. It's very heavy, gym quality and the warranty is excellant. The problem was that we used it for a short while and then it just collected dust. Fast forward 5 years to present date, and the wife and I (mid 40's) decieded it was time to get into shape.

Hey- (we said to ourselves) we have this expensive treadmill in the basement. I wonder if it still works.

It did and thus started my journey to get into shape. Started out walking out very slowly and over time ramped up the speed to where I was running on it. From there, i left the treadmill and started running on the road. I've lost 40# since i got off the couch.

Re: Looking for a good treadmill

We got a nice heavy duty one. It's a PaceMaster. LOVE IT! I do about 1/2 my running on the TM and 1/2 my running outdoors. I kind of call the treadmill the "dreadmill" as I don't have a TV or anything to keep my mind occupied while I'm on it. Music only goes so far. :-) We have a model that's about 5 years old and we have had no problems with it at all. But be advised that if you have to move it up stairs, get three strong guys. My husband and I nearly broke our backs moving that thing. WHEW!
