Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of May 4th
hi all, yesterday in the gym at the hotel cross training and lifted a few weights. This AM I tried to run on the TM and just hated it. I ran 3.2 miles on the TM and did some sit ups. Tonight after my flight home I am going to run.

misswendy - it is good for your muscles to take a rest day. I would have jumped in the back of the truck and took the ride home but left the garmin on for a great running time. lol Glad to hear your DS is better.

kevee - sounds like you are getting close to normal. That is a new one low-key tempo run. That is not quite a speeder run but more quickerly?

mary - your running is having an influence on others, that is awesome. good luck getting your running in. The weather sounds like normal, cold and windy.

take care.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of May 4th

Hey All,

Bit of a hectic day at work but managed to grab a moment to post at lunch time.

I didn't run yesterday but did go climbing which definitely counts as strength training and possibly also cross training. It was so much fun (I haven't been in ages and had forgotten how much I liked it). It's going to be part of my regular routine now!

I ran this morning 4.4 miles but my legs are still tired and i'm running easy runs about 30 secs a mile slower than usual. Think i'll probably skip tomorrow, I can't run Sat anyway, and then run Sunday. That'll give me 2 days rest and then I can decide whether to race Sunday or just fit in a training run. It'll put me somewhere around 21 miles for the week anyway if I do the 10k so would be a decent cutback week. Must remember not to push too much as I don't want an injury!

Spicegeek - glad you survived the cull. I think you deserved the dinner / drinks out after that! Great EC moment... It'll be great if you and your friend both get into the NYC HM. How do you get into the NY full without running all your qualifying races? Is it lottery?

Shiela - amazing that you are recovering so much quicker than your other HM's. It makes all the hard work and training worthwhile! What training plan did you use? Sorry if i've asked that before... it's research for my next HM! Cool to fit in that 2 miler. Is tumbling practice cheerleading stuff?

Stephanie - Did you manage that 3 miler? How were the legs running again? Sounds like you are getting right back into it so that's good. BTW - there is nothing wrong with 2 trainers... especially if one is male! is he EC?

Chuck - 17 (I guess that 18 or 19 now) days clean is a great accomplishment! You should be proud of how far you've come already. Glad DS is not going to Iraq for a while. Lol on Farlekking after baked beans!

Runjr - hope that trip is going well... I hate TM's too - you will be having running withdrawel symptoms by the time you get home!

Laurel - 'sleep in' until 5:45!!! My friends think i'm mad getting up at 6:15 to run... Don't regret not running (she says knowing she does the same herself). You need the rest and recovery time (note to self - remember this when deciding whether to run tomorrow). Did you get a run in yesterday? What's the decision on the race this weekend?

Joe - Hope you managed to get on line to read this! glad you finally got a diagnosis and some meds for that knee. It makes me a lot happier to know that rather than worrying about you out there running! Enjoy the graduations!

Kevin - 12 miles one week before your HM? That sounds tough? My legs are still tired too... take it easy! (note to self again... take own advice!). Lol on DD's squat workout! Great 30 mins... I like the idea of 'low key' tempo runs. Maybe that's what i'm doing right not ;)

Misswendy - Hope DS is better today. Lovely to see family and BB game I bet... Lol on not being recognised. You should have gone along with the pretence ;) We are celebrating my year running on Wed 14th May. I'll be expecting you to have a drink in my honour :D Lol

Macd - sounds like you will get some travel in visiting DD's... that'll be cool. DD went for a run the day after the HM? I'm seriously impressed! Chocolate frosted brownies? Did you resist? I don't think i'd have managed to!

Toshi - Wow - you are fast! Sorry you didn't manage to meet your friend though... maybe you were running so fast he couldn't see you ;)

Stan - better late posting than never! more running that walking... cool! Hope you get to run outside today. The driftwood was ship cargo... not sure what it was originally intended for but it wasn't treated so is now going to be woodchippings. Why can't they let me have a couple of bits :(

Mary - Good for you recruiting all your colleagues! I have been doing the same but not sure if i've truly converted anyone yet. The wind can be tough on runs so don't worry about that 5k. And anyway - my runs have been rubbish recently... You are right that 80 is a heat wave here - we've had a lovely week with temps in the high 70's the whole time. Shame i've had to work really! Are you enjoying the 'Fox Soccar'?

Well - back to work for me... lunch time is well and truly over.

Grocery shopping for me tonigh - what fun!

Cara

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of May 4th

Good morning all! I didn't get up to run this morning so I'll do that ‘low-key' tempo run this afternoon!

Mary, that's great news about your co-workers and C25K! It may have been windy, but at least it wasn't cold too. Good luck with your 5 miles today.

Runjr, yeah you ‘gotta luv those TM runs' LOL, Not ‘quickerly' either. I think coach just wants me to up the pace a little. My runs since the race on Saturday have been r....e....a....l....l....y s....l....o.....w. (yawn).

Cara, yeah maybe the rest will do you good. The 12 miles coach gave me on Saturday is really '12 mi. max'. it depends on how I'm feeling after the next two runs. He may shorten it.

Hi Ho, Hi Ho, it's off to work I go....

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of May 4th

hey yall

DS was exxtra tired and a little weak this morning so he slept in with DH and i went for 6m. he is up and eating again so we will wait for the garage door repair guy (who lost our work order from 3months ago due to a 'secretarial change'...) sooooooooooooo

kevee...recovering from extra effort like races can be tough. just keep at it!

marflair....your schedule is crazy. i get in a huff when i have to leave the house after supper! i couldnt imagine doing all that! great job getting the 5m in before the pandamonium (sp?) what a great influence you are!

runjr...hope your flight is easy. one sit up is the equivalent of one mile, so i bet you got in a good long run at the hotel after all.

chamblin....i feel the same about rubbish runs somedays. i think its just part of getting out there and doing it! 80s are cool days here in summer....

kevee....hope y ou get your run in this afternoon.

love to all

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of May 4th

lunchtime here, time for a quick post. I made it up to walk again today--that makes 4 days in a row (tho used stationary bike yesterday), I think I'm getting back in the habit! 2 more weeks til I may be allowed to run...

marflair, thanks for the tip on the Lakefront Festival... It should probably include, do not bring DH! He seems to think my Visa gets enough exercise already lol. Great job on recruiting new runners; boo on the wind! Good luck juggling all those activities--I don't really miss those days!

misswendy, nice run this a.m. Yeah, I guess chips would throw that calorie count off! Good luck w/garage door repair--ours always picks the coldest part of the winter to break.

Toshi, nice race report--you are WAY FAST!!! Sorry you missed your friend!

Stan, great job getting back into it!

spicegeek, hope you & your friend both get in to the NYC half. Are you thinking about the London marathon? DD#1 asked last night how I'd feel if she took a job in London for a few years when she finishes law school; she's my marathoner so maybe she'll be running it one of these days. Nice compliment from your #1 EC!

runjr, my DDs would NOT lap YOU! I don't plan on racing in Milwaukee this year, since I will (hopefully) just be starting to run again soon. Have a safe trip home and a nice run outdoors!

Cara, climbing sounds like fun! Did a bit myself eons ago... for me it was an exercise in overcoming fear. Give yourself a day or two of rest--you've earned it! I gave in to a square inch of the brownies--it helps that stuff like that disappears quickerly around here! Grocery shopping for me tonight too--ugh.

Happy running all!

I have been hording my time so that I can enjoy this weekend with DS. His 12th birthday is Saturday and then of course, I will be accepting my Mother of the Year Award on Sunday. Last final is Monday! Yea.

Glad everyone is doing good!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of May 4th

Wow .. not such a chatty bunch this week ... sure makes it easier to keep track !

Did my 4 mile / ab routine today - plently of EC . just not the #1 ! but I will be training with him this weekend ..!

Feeling a little stiffness / discomfort in my right hip whihc was my old stress fracture injury so I`m canning my plan to run 2 miles tomorrow and just boxing and maybe a little biking after instead - Sat I`ll train with the EC and do some x training cardio after Sunday I have a 4 mile race.

runjr - It`s the vapor headphones I have and in all fairness they would have held up much better if I didn`t treat them so badly - I`m putting the new pair in a pouch rather than just chucking them into my bag - tugging to unravel them I broke the wires at some point - I could probarbly fix them - I`m pretty handy with a soldering iron - but really - can`t be bothered ! Be careful with those workouts - let me tell you can put yout back out in a second with those turkish get ups !

misswendy - I think you are far to nice to generate that much gossip ! happty recovery day =- glad DS is better ! I really hope one day I get to meet you - I have a feeling you are quite a riot !

kevee - keep up the good work - I love your consistancy !

Mary - Good job inspiring your work mates - I have 2 of my staff working out fairly regularly now. It`s a great feeling !

Cara - You can try for the lottery to get into the NYC Marathon - my friend qualified last year on her half marathon pace - yes she is speedy ! - or you can run for a charity and get in. I have a graduate working for me who is a climber - I`ve been thinking I might like to try it - but really - I have enough hobbies !!!!

macd - I am tossing about the idea of applying for London after I have run NYC - so I run NY on 2009 - I`d probabrly try for London 2011 maybe - I want to see how much I love ot hate the training and the race. Yes my #1 EC really knows the right things to say - I`ll take strong + cool over pretty and think ANYDAY ! Far longer lasting !

Andahuff - Gald you are still hanging in there ! good luck with the final final !

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of May 4th

Good evening all! I did my easy tempo run this afternoon. It was another great day, temps around 65 and sunny, with just a little breeze (except when that semi-trailer went by at 55mph). Anyway the run felt really good. I, for sure, took it easy, and went the first 10 min at a 12:00min/mi clip (if you can call it that LOL). The next 15 minutes I ran at a 11:00 min/mi pace, and finally slowed to 12:19min/mi for the last 10 minutes. I felt really good throughout the run, and more importantly my legs are feeling ok 3 hours later. 20-30 min tomorrow.

Misswendy, Nice 6 mile run. Maybe DS is on the rebound. Yeah, I don't think I have enough races under my belt to know how long a recovery is going to take.

Macd019, great job getting out walking. Doesn't it feel good to be out consistenly? It shouldn't be long now. Anytime I've gone to the Arts festival I've been overwhelmed by the amount of GREAT art for sale. I can never narrow it down to one, or maybe 2, pieces. They sure are great to look at though.

Andahuff, Good job doing 9 miles in the heat! Happy b'day to DS. And good luck on that exam.

Spicegeek, Great 4 miles! Or, is it ‘great 4 miles of ab workouts? LOL Yeah, better watch that hip.

Stephanie, nice job on the 3 miles. Good luck on the 5K

Everybody have a good run tomorrow!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of May 4th

Hey everyone,

Lunchtime post for me... Not that i've got much to report! I am taking a couch day although I may do some strength training later. My legs are feeling better so a couple of days rest will be good. Weather here is still in the high 70's low 80's even though normally this time of year it's in the 60's. Hoping it holds for the weekend!

Kevin - cool 'easy' tempo run and good to hear it felt good. I'm hoping i'll get that feeling on my next run as my last weeks worth have been really tough. Hope the 20 - 30 mins go ok today.

Misswendy - great that you managed to sneak out for those 6 miles. Did the garage door repair guy turn up?

Macd - good for you doing the walking 4 days in a row. That's got to be good for your recovery. Am keeping my fingers crossed for you being able to run in a couple of weeks!

Andahuff - An alligator in the park? wow... Hope your son has a fab birthday. What's he getting as a present?

Spicegeek - i'm actually glad the forum is a little quieter this week as i've been able to keep up better! It's harder for me as you guys all post when i'm asleep so I always have a mountain to get through in the mornings! Take it easy with the hip... enjoy your 'date' with EC this weekend. You should try climbing as it's really good fun. I usually just go when I can fit it in, which will hopefully be more often now i'm running in the mornings.

Stephanie - As I don't know how old your son in I can't comment on your trainer being EC ;) i'm sure spicegeek would be able to advice on the age thing though! Good luck with the 5k this weekend.

Did I catch up already???
That was quick!

Happy friday all

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of May 4th
good morning all. I am back home and didn't get out for my second run yesterday. I am planning 7-8 miles today. That would put me at about 37 miles for the week with Saturday to go. Sunday will be a long run, weather permitting. It is cooler here again with some rain today and Sunday.

cara - that is definitely cross training with the climbing. That is a great workout and it sounds fun as well. Sounds like another busy weekend for you and your DH. Have a great weekend. You snuck in a post just as I was about to post. I hope your weather holds for the weekend.

kevee - hopefully you get your running legs back. There are weeks when you can only push for miles due to being tired. You will be back to normal soon. I guess you feel better after Thursday's run, that is great news.

misswendy - lost the work order for 3 months? Did he find it in his garage? Sounds like DS is doing better, great news. It must not be the same on your runs without your running buddy (DS). Good 6 mile run. No extra run for me, I need about 10.5 miles in the next two days for my 40 for the week.

andahuff - great run and in the heat. I bet the hydration belt came in handy.?

spicegeek - sounds like a great weekend ahead with the EC. Take it easy with the hip.

take care.

Cara my son is 28, I'm not sure how he got so old because I'm sure I'm not much older that that, LOL.

Have a great week end!

It is raining here and calling for it all weekend, this may be my first run in the rain. Oh well it had to happen some time, not a real fan of the rain, before I became such a fitness nut, all rain did was mess up the hair and makeup, now it can't hurt the hair and who wears makeup to run in???

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of May 4th

hey yall

went for 6m today, and included the short hill route too--i think it is 3/4 m? not sure. breakfast out and a little shopping at the hudsons (cute capris for $8).

macd.....excellent willpower--just a sq inch is tough! and you did it! hope your 2wks goes well until maybe running!

andahuff....maybe you need a built-in phone-cam on your shoe. hope those finals go well for you! i know you have been working hard!

spicegeek...love to meet you too! and, on being too nice for gossip, well here in the south anyone is good fodder for gossip, esp someone 'not from here' or 'the pastors' wife'. it just goes with the territory. no real juicy bits on me anyway! good decision to hold off on the running. hope your hip gets to feeling better.

stephanie2....i say never too young! haha just kidding. cant wait to hear about your 5k!

kevee...LOL 4m of abs....maybe a semi will ride by during the HM and you can draft off him for a couple miles!!!

chamblin....we are taking it easy on you! glad you rested after that climbing. i think that must be fun! would love to try, but i am afraid my arms couldnt hold my weight!

runjr...awesome totals. DS is just about done recovering. apparently the garage guy stored the work order in my garage which is quickerly becoming the black hole of the petal universe. how long have DD and DW been running? are plans for the race wknd final---any fun included? (i mean like shopping and coffee, running is of course the REAL fun!)

stephanie2....love to run in the rain, makes me feel like a real athlete.....ha

spicegeek....under thirty means they are still in training and can be taught! LOL

love to all

Wow, quiet day around here!

Just popping on to wish the racers--Steph, spicegeek, anyone else?--good luck this weekend! Spicegeek, take care of that hip--hope it's feeling better!

and Anda--good luck with that last final! Is it your final final final? DD#1 is now proclaiming herself a 2L.

misswendy, lol on your garage description--sounds exactly like mine! Unfortunately my basement sorta looks the same way...

A shortened walk for me this a.m.--DH decided to come along for part, and he's slowerly than me.

Everyone have a great weekend, and a Happy Mother's Day to all our mothers!!!
