Re: 1/2 marathon trainers week of may 11

I can't that I ran a race yesterday, legs are a little sore. I might try a short recovery run this afternoon.

Wendy! - thanks for getting it started

Laurel - I fight the balance game all the time, and right now work is winning. Sorry no words of wisdom from me. Good job with your 10k. Enjoy your family today, happy Mother's Day

Re: 1/2 marathon trainers week of may 11
good morning and Happy Mother's Day. I had a great time at the golf outing yesterday and had only time for a late night run of 3 miles. That at least got me over 40 miles for the week. Rain and wind today it might stop by later in the evening and then I will run for about an hour.

misswendy - our family appreciates the home-made cards as well. It takes more thought and effort. We are going to lunch this afternoon which should be fun. Yes I meant the M-i-ss-i-ss-i-pp-i way to say it to spell it correctly. I am considering the Milwaukee marathon and maybe one in the south when it is closer to winter to get a break from the cold. Have a great Mother's Day, you are a great mom and deserve the special day. Great run yesterday with hills!!!!

jeff - great race. It is good to hear from you. take care and try to eat a little better than that, or maybe enjoy it as you are working really hard. Maybe you can post your race training at Runners World. lol.

cara - good to hear you are racing today. Have a great race and I bet you do well. Good luck!!! Your natural ability will take over.

laurel - that is a great race!!! You are doing great. From where you were three weeks ago to today is a great accomplishment. It takes a really strong person to overcome the obstacles that you have had to over the last month or so. Stay strong. Have a Happy Mother's Day.

misswendy - way to get us going!!! you did awesome.

take care all.

Re: 1/2 marathon trainers week of may 11

Hey guys,

I ran my 10k this morning and it was tough! it was about 80 degrees again and humid... there were several prolonged hills too and it nearly killed me. As I set off my legs felt good and I ran the first mile in 8:58 mins which was probably a little quick. Mile 2 was 9:17 and it all went a bit downhill (unfortunately not literally) from there... my other splits were 9:59, 10:42, 10:15, 10:21 - total unofficial time 1:00:40

Overall i'm not too disappointed by the time as it was really hard, but I have to confess to walking several times on the hills. I'm wondering if maybe I could have broken 1hr without that, but then again they were just knackering (hope you remember that translation ;) ) and I'm not sure i'd have been much faster without walking... most of the people round me also walked so I certainly wasn't alone.

I carried water with me, but was still pretty dehydrated at the end. I think I drank 4 cups of water until I felt normal again. Waiting for official results and photos so will let you know when I have those... don't think the photos will be a pretty site though :D

I actually found this harder than the HM! I guess I need to get some hill training in!

Spicegeek - Sorry your EC ditched you... I'm definitely thinking he was running scared. Is there some potential new EC on the cards? I obviously live in the wrong place! Glad to hear you're taking it easy and not racing - hope you get some good cross training in. I got some of that in today actually as I biked to the race and back!

Laurel - you did great on that race! Sounds like your race conditions were like mine. Tough isn't it! I never thought i'd say this, but I prefer running in the winter ;) As for life balance... I've just about got it sussed now (although the house gets a bit neglected sometimes), but then I don't have kids to contend with! Only DH... LOL. Let us know if you find the secret.

Misswendy - thanks for starting us off! Joe will be proud that we managed without him. Spicegeek has definitely out geeked you though posting the link ;) Although i'd expect nothing less with her name!

Jeff - hope those legs recover quick and you get in that recovery run.

Runjr - Glad you got 40 in for the week. I think I did just over 21 which is fine seeing as i'd raced and taken a cutback week. Do you count your week starting sunday? Thanks for the luck... not sure there was any natural ability out there today ;) maybe next time.

Well - hope everyone has a great day. I'm probably resting tomorrow as I can't get out in the morning as someone is coming to measure up for the doors. Maybe i'll do some strength training in the evening.

Happy running all
Cara

I leave for a week and something happened to JOE??? Does this mean wendy has to wear pink camo?

Special Happy Mother's Day to all of ya'll. I started my day with a 12 mile run. One mile for each year I have been a mother. I was slow 2:02:00 and now Im trying to control my hunger! Garmin says a burned over 1300 calories. Ain't that crazy?

I wish I could say that Im up-to-date with everyone, but Im not. I have become part of the couch since coming home so I will try to read up on all I have missed.

Cara

I got my son a Rosetta stone software package to learn Japanese. He is fascinated with all things Japanese. He was very, very excited and stayed up till 12:00 last night with it!

Your race sounds awesome! You should be very proud. Hills definitely make a run much tougher. The good thing is that you hung in there. Isn't it funny that a shorter race isnt necessarily easier? They all have there special demands. I have been dragging my feet on doing a 5K because I know I will need to go all out for the whole thing. Anyway, be proud girl!

Be back after I catch-up!

Re: 1/2 marathon trainers week of may 11

hi all, I hope everyone is doing well. Quiet thread again. I got my 8.12 miles in today at 8:33 pace. It is cold and windy this afternoon here. Tomorrow I will run about 6-7 miles. This is my last week of hard running before the taper week. We were out last night and someone was telling us that the HM we are running is really hilly. I hope for the family sake that it isn't too bad.

cara - you should be proud that is a great race especially because of the hills. The weather wasn't great either, it was way to hot and humid. That would explain why the quick start and being knackered. I start every Sunday as a new week for miles. Rest and our HM in a few weeks is supposed to be quite hilly as well.

andahuff - I knew you would celebrate Mother's Day with a great run.

chuck - way to run.

misswendy - sounds like you are enjoying your Mother's Day. That is a great gift you will always remember from DS. He probably couldn't wait to give it to you. Take care and enjoy your rest day.

take care.

Re: 1/2 marathon trainers week of may 11

Hey everyone, did I miss something with Joe? Hope everything is ok.

Misswendy thanks for getting us going, you did a fine job! You and Spicegeek make a good team.

Jeff, great 5k! Your pre race meal sounds a lot like mine.

Cara way to go on the 10k. Hills and heat make a hard race.

Laurel, glad you're able to race again, way to bounce back.

Andahuff great 12 mile run. I'm staying on the couch after my run today and don't plan on getting off it. Hope your Finals went well.

Runjr, 40 miles in a week way to go! Thats awesome. I'm tring to get mine built up. Had 18 this week. Was only suppose to run 3 today but ran 6.8 instead. Had new music to run to.

Spicegeek, hope you're doing well. I'm thinking about starting going to our gym at the Appartment. Not much but it's there.

Again, I hope all the Moms had a great Mother's day

HI all
Having a nice mother's day here. I didn't get a run in - cold and windy, but dh did 8 miles. He was braver than me.

Jeff, here is the course and elevation data for your half. It is a great course - there a few steep hills but nothing too long.
http://www.mapmyrun.com/run/united-states/wi/madison/372005729

Cara, great 10K in the heat. That is really hot for you in England this time of year. I know your hills are killers.

Anda, great 12 miles for you to start out your day. I would have had to run 23! Enjoy the couch. I have been wrapped up in a book on mine today.

Chuck, enjoy your couch also.

Miss Wendy, thanks for starting us. I think Joe is just out of town a few days, right?

Jeff, sounds like a good race after a tough few weeks at work. I like your pre race routine, LOL!

Spicegeek, any EC today?

Laurel, glad you are feeling better. Good for you with the race.

Off to walk the dog. I will run tomorrow, promise!

Re: 1/2 marathon trainers week of may 11

Happy Mothers Day, I wish each of the mothers a special day with their families. We actually had to eat lunch with DW at the hospital; it was her weekend to work. We will do an official celebration tomorrow.

As for my week I did run 3 times avg about 3.5 miles each. 3 min run, 2 min walk. I actually tried to mow the lawn today after the run but only finished half.

I am looking at a local HM in early Oct., my progress is slow but, slowly improving.

Great races, Laurel and Cara- hills, heat, humidity, hydration (4 Hs) are all important factors in the out come of any race/racer. Great job.

Joe- how's that knee coming along. Don't do what I did and all but stop training, because now I am paying the price. Keep up the cross training to maintain.

Runjr- what is your (golf) handicap? I have not played in a couple of years. I think our college has a summer scramble coming up I might try. Great running by the way.

Jeff- I don't think luck has much to do with running. I think rest, planned or not, has a lot to do with running. Great job!

Spicegeek- how are those pushups coming? My goal is to do half of the workouts that you do.

Andahuff- how did you do on the final? Are you finished? Great running!

Laurel- we did get our second year students graduated on Friday. The first year with resume on May 27 in South Padre Island, that is where convention is this year. I have been bragging to everyone that our first day of class will be on the beach there. As for the balance thing; I remember Andahuff saying that even though running took time away from the family, it made her a better family member. So there is a balance there. Good luck.

At church service this morning they talked about the different kinds of mothers. Mothers-to-be, my-mother, mothers of the past, mothers of today, mothers with big hearts, strong mothers, and mothers in spirit. Regards of which category you fall into, thanks for all you do as a mother.

Chuck- how are you doing?

Gotta Run! Stan

Re: 1/2 marathon trainers week of may 11

Hey Stan, I'm doing good, thanks for asking. Dreading work tomarrow. I was off Friday so I've got the Monday dreads. Glad you're doing good on your comeback.

Hey Mary, I got up off the couch to take the trash out and it felt nice outside. I should of did my run tonight instead of today. Glad you had a great Mother's day.

Rest day tomarrow but might run anyway. Suppose to run a 4 mile cross country race this weekend but I'm not sure if I'm going to. I'll see how i am toward the end of the week. It's 4 mile trail run around a lake. It's a nice run so I might.

Re: 1/2 marathon trainers week of may 11
some eliptical and rowing for me today - I decided to add the rowing in to see if will help with my pull ups. Did my core work out - Back with my usual trainer tomorrow so will see if there is any progress with the push /pulls.

misswendy - good effort with the geeking out ! I hope you had a great mother day = you certainly do an awesome job of balancing your work outs and taking care of your family - I`ll keep you posted in the potential EC !

Laurel - not words of wisdom from the peanut gallery here - I don`t have kids - but if you can schedule in all their stuff try and schedule in your runs too - and sometime of they have to give up something it`s not the end of the world - you need your time too.

Cara - Good effort with the 10K - your pushed tho and finished - thats the main thing - sometimes it`s just not easy ! Well I don`t know about the potential new EC - his body is hotter than **** - built like one of those 300 extras .. and he`s actually more age appropriate !! I need to find out if he`s straight and single !! The former being less likley given as the gym is just off Broadway ! lol .. but he did make of point of chatting to me on Sat and waved as he left ..... so ... maybe .. I should be be able to out geek most people - despite all appearances my job does not involve hanging out at the gym - I actually run a system support team !!

14 days straight of training ! 17 workouts !!!! ... maybe a rest day in order sometime next week !

Adanhuff - don`t panic Joe is away visiting someone = he`l be back next week ! What a great mothers day run - 1300 cals sounds about right for 12 miles

Chuck - You really don`t need much equipment to get a good weight training session - just good planning - a bench, a yoga ball - and a few dumb bells and you can pretty much do anything. The 2 only machines I use on a regular basis is the Lat Pull down and the assisted pull up - Every thing else is free weights. Even if you have a to buy a few pieces of equipment - it`s just nice to have the space. Bow flex make adjustable dumbells - I have a set at home for the days where I work nights and come home at 4 or 5 am and want to work out - those and a yoga ball - awesome home gym !! .. just lacks the eye candy !!!!!! Seriously - write out your work out plan before you go - you`l be surprised at how good a work out you`ll get.

Mary - no EC at all today - my main gym is closed on a Sun so I use the one near my apartment - it`s just not as friendly as my regular gym - maybe if I went there more it would be !

Stan - I`m laughing at you goal ! Good job on the runs !! nice to see you back !!
