Best Boston Qualifying Marathons.....????

Hi Everyone.....fairly new to this site and also new to the forums and communities; however, I recently read an online article regarding the fastest marathon courses to qualify for Boston. I'm a 35 year old male, in decent shape (so I think), and although the qualifying times are very fast, I'd like to attempt to qualify this year. I've heard that the Steamtown Marathon in Scranton, PA is fast and I've also heard that the Philadelphia and Harrisburg marathons are equally as fast. Does anyone have any insight or recommendations they can share?

Thanks!!

Houston was voted Best Kept Secret 2 years ago. It's one of the flattest in the country.

Welcome to active.com!
While the course will certainly have an impact on your time, I think it's more important to find a marathon that fits well in your schedule. Look for an event that is scheduled for when you think you will be at peak condition. Let us know if you have any more questions.
Good luck and happy running!

Re: Best Boston Qualifying Marathons.....????

Hello PARunner. I hope you are getting the advice you were looking for. I'm 36 years old and I actually live in Binghamton, NY, which isn't too far from where the Steamtown Marathon is held. I haven't run Philadelphia or Harrisburg, but I did run the Steamtown Marathon last year and I thought it was a great course. It was so hot and humid last year, but the course was mostly downhill, except for the last 2-3 miles which were rolling. I didn't get a PR there but I did get my second fastest time ever and on a day that I wasn't feeling that great during the race. The thing I liked the most about the Steamtown Marathon was the crowds in each local town and borough. The local support for this marathon is incredible. I'm going back this year in the hopes of feeling better and in the hopes of smashing my personal record :8} . Good luck to you in whatever marathon you choose to run and remember, run safe!!!

-Sadie

Philly Marathon in Late Nov is very good. It is pretty flat, cool temp and good support. Also if you qual on that couse, you can goto Boston Twice with the same qual time. Few other marathons can say that.
