i'm a newbie with a question about attire!

my first tri is june 11th! few weeks away!

to my question:
i will probably have to wear a wetsuit as it's freezing in michigan right now! but aside from that:

is there a swim suit that has bike shorts style attached to it? (that can go under a wet suit)
or should i have shorts at the transition area to put over my suit?

thanks!

There is such attire. I recommend a one piece outfit that you can get at any tri store. It fits snug under the wet suit, it dries quickly while you bike and there is no water to run down your legs during the run. Mine was $79.00 but I have used it for the last four competitions.

Many companies amke such attire. If you got money to spent, try the premium line from Zoot, great stuff.

As to where to find a tri store, use Google. Or try www.all3sports.com, great folks there!

try calling around to bike shops in your area and see if they carry tri stuff. Desoto, Zoot, Craft, duofold and titanwear.com are all good brands but try them out if possible and see what works for you.

Just wear what you would wear on the bike under your wetsuit. Put body glide on to help with the removal of the suit and it'll work out great. It's harder to put cloths on a wet body then to pull a wetsuit off with your cycling cloths underneith. Good luck, and have fun

I am a girl so I wear my swim suit and bike shorts under my wet suit and then I have the option to throw a shirt on or not. Quick and painless

Wear a tri tank and tri shorts under your wetsuit- it's more versatile for later use. The shorts have a thinner panel and dry very quickly. Tuck your gu into your back pocket or you can tape it to your bike. You will save so much time in your transition. A great place to rent a wetsuit is bonzai sports. Nice stuff and very affordable.

For an early September mini-triathalon, first timer, would a pair of cycling shorts (with tiny padding) and a sports bra/top be okay to do it all...w/o wetsuit? IS a wetsuit vital to this event if the water is not so cold? Or is it about having dryish gear underneath?!
Thnaks!

if the pad is small and you can run it comfortably you should be fine. wetsuits are good for giving bouyancy
(especially to the legs which tend to sink)

Does anybody know what water temperatures you must wear a wet suit in? Swimming is the one sport I'm pretty good at so I don't need it for buoyancy. Since this is my 1st tri I don't want to invest to much money with this 1st go around. Also my plus size is getting smaller and I don't want to invest in something I hope to shrink out of.

my preference is below 65 but depends on you and length of the swim. contact the race director or tri club and see if you can rent one for the day

I feel the same way. I am a swimmer who is going to try a triathlon for the first time and I loathe the wetsuit but the water is going to be 60 so I am going to consider buying one anyways. What are you going to do for bike shorts I am only doing a sprint so 6 miles doesn't need legit bike shorts right? It seems like they'll fill up with water on the swim Lol.

Tri shorts have either a very thin insert, or none at all. I have Pearl Izumi tri shorts that dont have an insert, and they are fine for the 14 miles of a sprint tri. The new PI tri shorts have a very thin insert.

You would wear these shorts the entire race. I did the swim, bike, and run in them in my first tri, which was a pool swim. I will wear them in my next tri as well (a sprint, with a lake swim). If I wear a wetsuit I will wear them under it.

http://www.trisports.com/-----is a good site for triathalon suits and you can also find good prices on Ebay--I purchased a 2XU and two other new suits on Ebay at significant savings. I actually have a belt to attach my number to that I wear under my wet suit--take the wetsuit off and your ready to go other than gearing up for the bike.

It's great to have just one suit and not have to worry about changing clothes- I am also new to Tri's and and have competed in 2 with my 3rd one coming up June 7th! This is a fantastic sport with a lot of great people.
