Starting a new thread for the Long Haul.

The Long Haul is a group of runners who completed C25K together and continue to run virtually together. We always welcome new folks. Happy running!!

Re: The Long Haul - Haulin' !!!!

I hate new threads. But for Doug, well, I guess i'll go along with it. :p

Frank, I can't believe your race season slows down due to summer weather. Nothing stops the races here. There are actually a lot more races during the summer. And I know it's just as hot and humid here as it is in your neck of the woods.

I'm tired and cranky today. I need to climb on the bike and I just can't seem to get motivated. I think I need a little of Frank's energy.

Re: The Long Haul - Haulin' !!!!
HI All - Seems strange being on a new thread. Hope everyone had a great long weekend and a short week this week. I am curently taking some vacation time. I am not doing much of anything except errands but it is nice not to sit in front of a monitor, that is a work monitor.

Since I had the day off I ran a little later and put in a little short of 3.5 miles. I took it slow and easy and the run was enjoyable. A little while after getting home I decided to go on a bike ride. I pumped up my road mike to 95psi and away I went. Yesterday the wife and I decided to go on a short ride around the area. I used a mountain bike and the ride was mostly recreational. Today I decided to bring out my butt buster road bike which I have not used since I started running and put it through it's paces. I managed to put on about 10 miles at around a 14mph pace. This was the first time using the Garmin for a bike ride but it worked out great. You know since biking works out your muscles completely different then running it is a great supplement and I found I felt great after my ride. Kimber, I will still not plan on joining the dark side, I can swim but I am not all that great at it and it is just not my interest.

Val - You know the last time we changed threads we lost someone because they bookmarked the page. Let's hope this does not happened again :)

Re: The Long Haul - Haulin' !!!!
Val - I have no problem with the new thread. It works for me. However, I am not a tri-guy in the making. I respect people like Kimber who bike/run/swim and actually compete. I am just an old fashioned runner who likes to supplement with a little biking. Honestly my bike is so old it would get double takes at a triathlon. It is now 16yrs old and bicycle technology has changed a lot. Shoot, my shifters are still down on the down tube which has not been done in ages.

Re: The Long Haul - Haulin' !!!!
Oh no! New thread... it was getting pretty long. But I was really comfortable in the old one :)

That is a GREAT post that you found from Don, Kimber. Just goes to show... it actually gives me a lot of encouragement to realize that less than a year ago Don was struggling with 2.75 miles at a 12:00 mm pace and now look at him! Amazing.

Love the pic Angie. Yes, the guy is checking out something right in the area of your behind. Y'all have posted your pics I feel like I should too.

Mike, I'm finding it nice to change it up a bit too. Today I rode my bike to the gym, swam about 1/2 a mile and did some weights then rode home. It's about an 8 mile round-trip on the bike. Very nice. It's been just a touch cooler here the last two days. Although I can tolerate the heat on the bike much easier than when I'm running. I also feel safer. Lots of busy roads.

Here in Gainesville the races have dropped to pretty much non-existent for the summer. There's a 3 mile run on the 4th of July that I'll do, but other than that nothing much until October.

You guys are all so great. Thank you all.

Re: The Long Haul - Haulin' !!!!
Nico - My area is the same. Until October it is a little hot to race so you find not a lot are scheduled. Northerners have it tough during the winter and we have is bad during the summer.

Re: The Long Haul - Haulin' !!!!

Thanks for the pics, Nico! Hey -- are you a fellow southpaw? I'm just guessin' from the watch placement and such. Like Val, I also hope to have arms like yours someday. :)

Thanks for starting the new thread, Val. I was going to suggest a new thread when we hit around 500 posts. I didn't realize our threads were at risk when they got too long, though. Dodged a bullet there!

Mike - I'm right there with you. My preferred bike is a Motobecane sport touring bike that I've been toting around the country since I was about 14. (Gives you a sense of how much I haven't grown that it still fits....) The gear shirts are also on the down tube, and I much prefer it to the handlebar-mounted variety. That's the bike, incidentally, that got me moving last June and ultimately resulted in starting c25k. How cool....

T-shirt update: for whatever reason, my local Fleet Feet, who was helping me get this done, went quiet. I've poked around a little bit and found another company that can do the shirts. The shirts will run in the neighborhood of $35 through them, since we're not ordering all that many (six at last count; price break seems to come at 12). I still haven't gotten a logo onto the computer (plenty of bad sketches, but not scanned in), but I've put a placeholder on the design. It's nothing fancy, but here's a rough idea:

I'm open to absolutely any suggestions/revisions/whatever.

Oh, well. Enough procrastinating. I have to go grade stats homeworks.

Don

Re: The Long Haul - Haulin' !!!!
I did it!!!!!!

I just registered for the Long Beach 1/2 Marathon on October 12th. My wife (Ailen) will be running the Run Forest Run 5K. I have this weird thing where I just need to be training for a race and I was once again raceless. The URL is http://www.runlongbeach.com/ if anyone is curious.

Angie - What do you think???? You up for it? We have a lot of time to train. Keep in mind that this event offers personalized bibs however you need to register before the end of this month to get one. This is also on the day of the World Wide Half Marathon Challenge so it would qualify for that and you can run with fellow Long Haulers.

Re: The Long Haul - Haulin' !!!!

First off, thanks for the new thread!

Second, I just got back from wk 1, day 1 (with my dog!) and I did it! It was crazy windy but I went anyway. A little post stiffness in the back but otherwise it went pretty well. I took it very slow and easy, half trail (still hate running on them, but wanted to get the dog used to running by my side)/half road. It's so different starting from the beginning again, it's impossible to find any sort of pacing and a bit awkward, but the main thing is I freakin' did it! My injury had me very worried, 2 months without running and 3/4 of that time barely able to walk makes all kinds of crazy things go through your head. So I'm going to take it easy for a couple days and see how my body reacts to tonight's run. I really wanted to just run tonight but I'm really trying to ease back into it.

Thanks to everyone for their support, I really appreciate it and reading all your posts kept me going. You guys are a big inspiration.

Michael, I too am jealous of your vacation! Enjoy it!

Its just starting to warm up here (was 12C/54F tonight), and races are in full swing right up to fall when they slow down again.

Happy running everyone.

Re: The Long Haul - Haulin' !!!!
Hey guys,

Nobody has every called me ripped before. You made my day! I'm sitting here flexing my arms like a fool :)

Yes, Don, I'm a lefty B-) Cool! And the shirts are great! Can we pick our own colors or is the price contingent on us all getting the same color?

ETA: Doug, we were posting at the same time. Way to go!!
