Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of June 1st
Joe - I`m glad you too sick to run ..... you shouldn`t be running - or doing anything on that knee until you get it checked out - do not make me get misswendy and andahuff and come over there because we`ll be mad ..and you don`t want that.

Just eating breakfast here then I`m going head out for a 3 - 4 mile trot with a potential new running buddy - a friend of a friend in London who just moved to New York. The sun is out and it looks like a nice day for a little trundle around the resevoir. My hip is still doing fine - little stiff everywhere else after yesterdays pounding - I think you are right misswendy I`m going to see different progress working with the EC - he is focusing in on my weak points and just killing them.

Andahuff - take a rest girl - if you are feeling sick skiping one run is going to do more good than harm in the long run

misswendy + andahuff - awesome milage for the month - you girls are bad a$$ !

Joe

Hope you get to feeling better soon! You are going to need to be in tip-top shape to take the beating that the girls are going to hand you.

SpiceGeek

Cool on finding a new running buddy. I hope it works out for you.

I felt great this am on my long run. I ran 12 miles. The day of rest did me good. It was the first time that I felt fresh in the last two miles..

The interesting part was mile 1. I noticed two police cars driving really slowly with their blinker lights on but no sound. The road was empty.. It was 5:45. I thought about crossing the street but it is a 6 lane road and I would have had to either run back a half a mile or jay-walk. Given that the police where there, I thought it was better to just keep on truckin slowly. I couldn't see anything to determine why they were doing what they were doing. I jogged up to one patrol car and then immediately I saw this guy. He must of been about 16 and he was either very very drunk or he was high. He was flailing his arms about and making crazy sounds. He stumbled as he walked and his speech was gurgled. I decided to speed up quick in order to get out of there...(boy that was dumb running up to that). I ran hard and then I heard him running behind me with big thuds. He wasn't going to catch me, but it creeped me out. One of the patrol cars peeled off and gave me an escort for about the next mile. I kept hoping that no neighbors were up or else they would think I had done something! It made for an entertaining first part of the run!

Happy running today all!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of June 1st
HI all,
Joe, I agree with Spicegeek, don't push it until you get some answers about the pain in your knee.
Spicey, great news about friend relocating. Hope your run is fun. Can't believe you have weak points to find, LOL!
Andahoff, v. scary! Glad the boys in blue were around to protect you. I don't think I have ever done a 12 mile run and felt fresh in the last 2. Your ultra mileage is really paying off. Glad you are feeling better.
GLBryan - I wish we lived close to each other. I think we could do a good 5 K together. I would love to hit 30 min. too but closest so far is 31:30 (unofficially!). I don't know if I could do an 8:49 min. mile though.
Chuck, I love Chinese but it doesn't always love me.
Kevin and Run Jr, enjoying this weather?? It is awesome out this morning.
Wendy, dinner sounded yummy. LOL, bout the cows - guess they wanted to race you.
Laurel, glad you are feeling better. I know the end of the term is a crazy time.
Hi to everyone else!
Didn't get on all week last week but I did get my runs in. Life is so busy this time of year. Ds has 1 more week of school and dh is busy with end of year stuff. We had a nice "date night" last night - a trip to Trader Joe's to restock our freezer and dinner on the rooftop bar at the Sundance Theater - pizza with pears, arugula, walnuts, and gargonzola cheese - yum! Last soccer game, followed by pizza party this afternoon. I plan to spend some time weeding my raspberries and flower beds. 5 easy miles in this am.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of June 1st

Morning all. or should I say early afternoon... Semi-newbie here starting training for the September Va Beach RnR 1/2. Super excited. Leapt out of bed this morning to attempt a 3w/1r pace. NOT!! How do you overcome losing breath so quickly? Been walking for years, and this will be my 4th 13.1 race (the were all walking) Now I want to really work on time and pace. I need running - breathing - not passing out tips!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of June 1st
well the weather in NY today was just perfect for a run - did an easy 4.5 miles - the girl I ran with had a similar pace and we chatted up a storm for the whole run - so I think we will run together again it was a lot of fun.

Andahuff - sounds like you had a fun morning ! stay safe out there !

Mary - well the weak points are all relative ! - actually since my stress fracture I was only just starting to build my legs back up when I ended up in surgery so my legs are pretty pathetic right now compared to where they were ! I can only press 90lb per leg - thats just sad ! Also the guys that train me have now decided that I need to do perfect push ups with the arms tight under your shoulders ( I keep my hands wide ) - their way requires much more triceps strength - so he had me do very tight chest presses and skull crushes with a 40lb barbell - He also has a killer ab workout that he likes that actually works the hip flexors to - it`s just different - and i`m enjoying the challenge.

TinkPink WELCOME !! very nice to have you join out merry band - when you run you should be able to talk - it you are out of breath you are running too fast - SLOW DOWN !

spicegeek...hope your new friend is a good running buddy. i dont think ive ever been called bad *** before!!!

andahuff...police escort for your long run?!?! next time, put on your mama face, turn around, and give the drunk teenager a really good yell! that would sober him up! nothing like a little pocky to get ya going fast!

marflair...after reading your post i know what i am having for dinner! was it grilled? yumyum! guess the patio will have to do instead of the rooftop bar. great 5m. do you eat the raspberries?

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of June 1st
hi all, I am behind a bit but will try to catch up. Ran yesterday with DW about 6 miles and 10.5 with DD today at the lakefront in Milwaukee. The top of my right foot hurt a bit but it is definitely from the laces too tight last week. I think I just bruised it some.

andahuff - nice shoes. Makes sense to me with the Inspires. Great month.

misswendy - Great run yesterday. Do you take any gel packs or water with you on your long runs? You should if you are not. With the temps getting hotter it is necessary. First the guy in the truck following you now cows. You must have had on that red shirt again. lol

kevee - great run yesterday. I hope you get out to enjoy the weather today.

joe - it is easy to fall behind on the posts because of the summer and being busy. Hope you are feeling better.

spicegeek - hope that run turns out good. Running with friends is always the best.

laurel - good to hear from you. Hopefully you can get to a normal schedule if that is possible.

chuck - you are like me 200-250 is about it before I start using them for shorter runs.

mary -glad to hear you are getting your running in.

take care and sorry if I missed anyone.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of June 1st
Good evening all! I did my 60 min run this afternoon. It felt a little warm today so I backed off my effort a little. I did 5.33 miles in the 60 minutes. I got the day off tomorrow.

Laurel, Hey, welcome back! It's good to hear you've been getting your runs in! I'm glad your schedule'll be slowing down some.

Misswendy, I don't do ‘goose bumps', I do ‘people bumps' LOL

Andahuff, sorry no more pic of DD's. My camera didn't work on Thursday for the 8^th^ grade recognition, and I wasn't at DD#2's water Baptism. I stayed home and prayed for her. She came home all wound up though. It's exciting seeing teenagers on fire for Jesus!

Spicegeek, I hope you had a good run with your new buddy!

Andahuff, great job on the 12 miles today! And that's good news you felt strong at the end. Wow that's a strange story. That tops Misswendy's cows.

Mary, Oh yeah, I'm loving the weather. Finally we get some nice temps! Good luck with the 5 miles! Raspberries? My favorite.

TinkPink, Welcome! You have plenty of time to train for the half in September, just don't try to run too fast too soon. You'll only hurt yourself. Keep your running efforts easy, and work on slowly increasing your time. A little over a year ago I was getting winded and out of breath on 1 minute runs. I ran my first half 2 weeks ago and while my breathing was ‘elevated' it was never out of control. You'll get there just be patient. Everyone here is very supportive. Keep us posted with your progress and questions.

Spicegeek, Great news on the 4.5 miles. It's great you may have found a running buddy.

Misswendy, You're spending so much time at the pool, you're going to get ‘pruney' Too bad about the heat. We're a LONG way's away from hot. If Mary doesn't eat the raspberries, I will, all of them. LOL

Runjr, Great runs! It must have been nice down at the lakefront!

Everyone have a good night and Great runs tomorrow!

Kevin

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of June 1st
hey everyone, well I did it! I got my 20 in for the week. Didn't get the 25 due to Chinese food but I ran 8.03 tonight in 1:19:58 and ended the week with 20.13 miles for the week. I'll try for my 25 this week. Jumped in the pool after my 8 tonight it was so hot but I felt really good at almost a 10 mint pace. You have to slow down in this heat to get a long run in. I bought me a book from B>A>M> called 4 months to a 4 hour marathon. Thats what I'm shooting for. Well going to wind down and get some rest. Good night all.

Joe - I swear to God - if you go running I`ll be on the next plane to beat you to a bloody pulp .... you rested - you ran - your knee is bothering you again - something is wrong - get an MRI - and stay off it until you know what is wrong. ROWING bothered it --- and you want to run ... seriously - you make me look sane ... and this is not easy !

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of June 1st

Morning all!

joe, not sure, but I'm just guessing misswendy's soup would be worth taking a beating for! Glad the knee is feeling better, but you should still have it checked out. So you'll have a child in law school too? I think Mary does, as do I. I call her my retirement plan (jk).

misswendy & andahuff, fantastic job on the May mileage!! But with one of you starting a stampede, and the other getting a police escort, you could be giving the group a bad name!

spicegeek, sounds like a fun run with the new buddy! Watch out for those sweat puddles in the gym--we don't want you slipping & injuring yourself!

Mary, glad you got your runs in. I tried growing raspberries once, but the rabbits and birds ate them all. I'm ready to give it another try--I just love 'em.

TinkPink, welcome! I agree, it sounds like you need to slow down to build your mileage--at least, that's what I'm trying to do ;)

runjr, nice runs w/DW & DD! Glad the foot is feeling better.

Kevin, good 60 min run! It was warm here too, but not hot--and not too humid (yet). About as good as summer gets in IN.

Chuck, great 20 mi week! I'm sure the pool felt good!

Laurel, good to hear from you! Sounds like you have had a busy month--hope things are winding down!

Gayle, good job on your 5k! You'll get that 30 min. soon. I recalibrated my Nike+ on Sat., but for a quarter mile on the track my pace was about 2 min. faster than I normally run on the road, so it still doesn't seem to be very accurate. On yesterday's walk it was short, and this morning's run it was long. Not sure what (if anything) to try next (besides a Garmin, of course).

I did my first 2-mi run this morning. It was humid and I was slow (13:20), but I was glad to be able to do it--it's the furthest I've run since the knee injury 3 months ago. Knee continues to feel good when I run, but dang it stiffens up fast when I'm at my desk.

Hope everyone has a great week--run strong!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of June 1st

hey yall

did not run yet today, couldnt make it out of bed early. didnt sleep too well last night. still a chance for some pool running later. DH (finally!) bought a reel mower for me so i can cut the yard during the day. he is too busy and our teenager yard boy doesnt come around often enough. with a manual mower, i can be outside and still hear the kids yelling if they have any problems inside.

runjr...yes, i need to coordinate a water stop on my long run. that was not very smart of me. it was the pink top, so the cows must have been having a girly day. hope your foot is better soon, fun to run w/your girls

kevee...good job on the 60 min run. not pruney, just a little pink from the sun.

chuck...hope you like your book. chinese food is the root of all your problems! great job on 20miles

joe...every time you post it seems you have another child.....i will try running in the pool if the pool guy comes and cleans it. was looking a little green yesterday. hope the mri comes together soon. you said you felt a little down, so i thought soup would help. maybe corn/redpepper chowder?

spicegeek...you and joe are two of a kind??!?!?LOL

macd... great job on the 2m run! hope you get the stiffness out. stretching afterward is always good....you dont have to get a beating to have some soup! LOL

joe...enjoy your 1/2 day and the gym. spicegeek has planted undercover spies there, so she will know......

love to all
