Jun 1, 2008 1:49 PMJimmy's Race Report!!!Okay let me begin by saying that this was not a fvorite race of mine. I blame it on the organization which was not real bad but for me it stunk. The corral start did not play the roll it is intended to play. We were all in our corrals and 10-15 minutes before the race start they dropped all the ropes dividing them and the onslaught ensued. I had such a crowd around me that it took 4 miles for it to shake out clear up a bit. The course and the people was not comparable to the MCM start and the crowd got to me a bit. I wanted some solitude and wanted it fast so that is what I did, I ran fast. I was cruising and partly because the course as well as the crowded streets. I clipped off some fast miles while going down hill for the majority of the first 8 miles or so. I saw Toby at the spot he mentioned he would be and if I am not mistaken he got some good footage of me. He was busy playing support man for some of the runners that will be pacing him through his 100mile journey next weekend. The bands were not consistant playing and the runners were rude about it. I must have just been in a mood today. I died off at about mile 15 and got bored and did not feel like running anymore. I started messing with the crowd at this point and just enjoying life. I walked a good bit from mile 22-23 mostly because of the boredom. I then went ahead and finished. 3:43:18 I guess and was about in the middle average of all my marathons. I saw the paly by play thread and really appreciate y'alls virtual support. The finishing area was super congested and a pain to get through. Thanks again for the support. It is nice to feel appreciated. Jimmy
Re: Jimmy's Race Report!!!
Hmmm, all in all, doesn't sound like one I'd want to come run. But I'm glad you made the best of it and were able to relax and take it in stride as much as possible. Next time, come run something in Texas See, that Oklahoma marathon doesn't seem so bad now, does it? I don't know how you ran two marathons a week apart anyway. You are freakin' awesome, just finishing! Did you see Jesus at the finish, by chance? How many people ran this thing? Glad you finished in a decent time (well, decent for you; amazing for most of us) and are enjoying SoCal and family time. Get home safely and rest up for Jay. Wish you were doing El Scorcho with us! I might even roll some long trail runs in for good measure. And then I have to do Marathon to Marathon out in Western Texas. OK was not too bad just the heat and wind. I actually enjoyed the course. I think though that is what made this one sorry. I was expecting Nashville and since that is one of my favorites I was let down from the get go. I don't know how you ran two marathons a week apart anyway. With sheer dtermination. This one and Pensacola both had me wanting to quit but I am just not one to quit when I am feeling healthy. I was praying for a temporary injury at Pensacola.LOL You are freakin' awesome I know!!!!!LOL Did you see Jesus at the finish, by chance? No because the congestion at the finish line area! Enjoying SoCal and family time Very much so, this is the first one that the fam came to with me out of 12 of these bad boys! The kids had to walk about 5 miles total to spectate and see me finish. They are such troopers, and not one of them complained. . Get home safely and rest up for Jay. Yes ma'am! Wish you were doing El Scorcho with us! Me too!!!!! The train rtrip? It was truly an experience to be had. It was solid mixture between the types of people who ride greyhound(not being judgemental just painting a picture) and cool people seeing the country. It would have been most excellent except we had the world's worst Mom sitting behind us dropping F bombs and cursing her 6 year old. And this was because she was stressed because the smoke stops were far and few between, did I mention she was pregnant with her second kid. Okay now to the cool stuff, get a sleeper if possible for the trips you plan on taking and all will be fine. The country looks different from the train. South Texas is amazingly beautiful. The seats were very spacious and and reclined all the way back. We adopted a college kid on the trip. He had dinner with us and totally relaxed wioth our kiddos. They were busy playing cards and DS's and PSP's and such the whole way. He was coming rto Cali and then into Mexicao for some missions work. He was awesome and helped me spread load my time with each child. We let the kids explore the train and see the sights. The food prices were not bad except for dinner. The trains do not care if you bring your food aboard and eat what you bring. They had a travel car with tables and nice windows to see the scenery. Awesome experience I would recommend to anyone who had a few extra days to travel. Just get a sleeper because meals are included in the ticket price. Jimmy
Re: Jimmy's Race Report!!!
Congratulations on an excellent time, Jimmy! Average for you is amazing for most of us! It sounds like you're having a really nice trip! From what I've read about the course, somehow I doubt boredom will be a problem at Jay Mountain.
I've read that the crowning of the pavement at RNR SD can be a problem. What did you think?
Thanks for the congratulations, I did all right, not anywhere near the time I wanted but I finished at least huh? I was really hoping the weather would have stayed as cool as it was when I first got here but it got pretty hot towards the end. I was doing pretty well up until the 19-20th mile and then I just got really...tired I guess. My body was feeling good, my legs ain't not really that sored, no cramps but I did got tired. Maybe I needed a couple of more long runs more than 20 miles? I don't know. At least I think I beat my MCM marathon so I'll settle for that, plus there's always the next one(El Scorcho?) Or San Antonio maybe huh? It took me about 8 mins to cross the mat at the start and the crowd was really bad for the first few miles. The one thing I think they did better than MCM was the herding of the finishers at the end, every runner had to go through the photo spot in order to proceed to the food and stuff, they were handing out ice cold wet towels at the end, volunteers were saran wrapping ice to those who'd ask for it, so all those were the things I liked about it. The bad stuff was the large uncontrolled crowds and the heat the last 5 or so miles. Anyhow, gotta go, but thanks for the support and I'll catch you guys later.
