Apr 23, 2008 10:24 AMGwen is running again
I wanted to let everyone know that Gwen is starting to run again.....walk / run right now.....She has been walking 5 mile a day for the past four weeks and has been cleared by her Dr. to start running as tolerated. The neck collar is gone and she will be able to return to work on May 19th. She wants to thank everyone again for your thoughts, prayers, and gifts during her recovery. They were appreciated.
She is planning on running the Wineglass Marathon in October. Her goal after her last accident was to run a marathon every year. We are deferred for the Frederick Marathon until 2009. I am planning on running the Boston Marathon in 2009 also so I will have two marathons in 12 days. That is good news. Easy does it on the buildup - don't need any overuse injuries. I should talk. I went from nothing in mid-June to MCM last year. Lenz's Law is a special case of Le Chatelier's principle: Any change in status quo prompts an opposing reaction in the responding system. I like that one better.
Re: Gwen is running again
Oh my goodness, I was thinking about her yesterday! I'm so glad to hear she's doing better! You can't keep her down- five miles a day already?! With that drive I know she's got great things coming her way. Thanks for keeping us posted
In Training: Marine Corps Marathon 2008; Antarctica Marathon 2009; Pittsburgh Marathon 2009; http://community.active.com/blogs/KatRunsAntarctica That's great news! So glad to hear she's recovering well and going to be running marathons again, sounds like she's well on her way already! Five miles a day is quite impressive this soon. As of Saturday, I will have run two marathons in 20 days, so I'm not quite as close as you, but then I'm not nearly as strong a runner as you -- or as fast -- or as young! Best wishes to you both! Re: Gwen is running again
Hello all
This reply is long overdue and we apologize. Gwen was released by the doctors to resume running at the end of April. She is now to 20 - 24 miles a week and hopes to be up to 30 miles a week by the end of June when we begin our training for the Wine Glass marathon in the beginning of Oct. Her sprained ankle is the biggest issue that she is facing as she tries to get back to pre-accident form. It typically begins to hurt around the 5 mile mark and she has concerns with increasing her miles by the end of the month. I remind her that it is only 3 1/2 months since the accident and that she is still healing, but she says, "I am 'Super Gwen' and I should be able to return to form now." Seriously, we thank God everyday that Gwen doesn't have a spinal cord injury or worse and is physically able to run, hike, play with Sierra, and work in the garden (all things that she loves to do) Gwen returned to work at full time on May 19 and is happy to be working again. We again want to thank everyone for tyour houghts and prayers.
