I'm as ready as one can be for this triathlon on Sunday. I'm excited about it. My goal is to make it under 1 1/2 hours. I can do the swim in 12 minutes or less, bike in under 40 and run in 30. The transitions will get me as I have to go to the bathroom more often and think I'll have to go each transitions. LOL! I think I'm going to have to go with my strong point and push the swimming to get a heads up on the running (my weakest point). So, I'm in it to make it and will be excited to start this new sprints over the next few years.
Thanks for all the advice and calming down.

good luck and please report back on how it went!
Thanks H1!
Although I went to the site, eyed the swimming section, drove the 2 laps of the riding part and drove the run.....and now, am feeling REALLY intimidated!!! There's some hills on the ride and it gets tricky on how and where they divert the run to the finish. There are some left hand turns onto major roadways on the ride and I'm wondering how they are going to do that with traffic/or how I'm going to do that. I'm fearing the ride right now. And, I'm going to have to huff it up a hill and I swear it's about 1/10th of a mile hike up a hill to get to the transition area from the swim! Are they going to have us go up the stairs??? Does that time go onto the swim time or transitions?
I've changed my mind....I'm hoping to finish in under 2 hours! ROFL!
Eeek, the bike!
I got my bike checked and cleaned up a bit and saw a gorgeous $6000 one.....drool! Love to have the brakes closer to my fingers when I'm in the drops, not to mention be able to shift in the drops. This is going to be an experience!
I'll be there, my wife is doing her first Sprint there this weekend. Just relax and have fun!
Don't worry about the route, they will be out there making sure you are going the right way.
Hi!
I'm doing the same tri this sunday --my first, and I drove the route as well, but I didn't notice any hills? did you mean on the run or the bike? I work downtown naperville so I am pretty familar with the area....hmm.. I hope I have my roads right. One thing I did want to mention is I heard that they are NOT closing the roads, I just can't believe this, you are right there is busy busy streets they have us riding on, I'm curious to hear on saturday how they are going to justify NOT closing the roads to vehicles...I mean does that mean we stop at red lights etc??? how fair is that regarding your time etc.?? eeeek. Good luck to you!
They don't close the roads on many tris, most of them. But they of course will have the police out there stopping traffic at intersections so you guys don't have to slow down at all.
On longer stretches of road just make sure you keep to the right and don't cross the yellow line in the road when passing, you could get a penalty for that. Shouldn't be a problem at all.
That makes me feel SOOO much better, thank you! ahh, I wondered if they'd at least have the police out there well I hoped rather!
Thanks for the advice on the yellow line, yikes!
Hano and Niemsco....I'm number and am in wave 15. If you are around....just halla elmhurstcat! I'm sure there will be so many people that it won't happen, but one never knows.
Little hills, nothing major, but might get tiring on the second run on the bike and the hill I was referring to was the one that we have to hike up to get back to transitions from the swim.....unless we are taking the stairs, but I can't imagine they'd do that. I'm thinking that they will open the gates and well huff it up the sand then grass to the parking lot for transitions.
What time are you all planning on getting there? Dropping off or parking?
Smiles!

Hey!
How did you get your number and wave already?? Let me know so I can get mine
Yeah I just drove the route this am, and I do notice some slight hills, eek, and I am pretty sure we'll be hiking up those stairs from the swim, I don't see another way, but I did the swim there last sunday and practice the run to the transition, its really no worries, you barely notice the stairs
my concern is if there is 2400 participants, how the heck am I going to find my bike rack, ha, I guess thats why you go early, I plan getting there by 5:45
I'll look for you, but hook me up with how I find out that info!

I just found out you do NOT have to go up the stairs, there is a grassy hill we run up I guess... ![]()

Confirm yourself and it'll tell you all you need to know. Save you some time when you go pick up your stuff.
Is it that grassy hill to the left of the building? And what the heck are the bulk heads that they are talking about. I eyed the place and was like.....I see some lanes in the middle.
I like the run through the neighborhood....the bike doesn't look so nice and those roads don't look so great either. Prayers to the tire goddess that our tires like the roads.

I just figured that out after I sent you the question, ha! I'm #792 wave 24, we must be in the same age group??? I wonder if that means I'm the 792 person in line?? hmm... yeah I think they totally rearrange the beach, and put those bulk heads in, they are like big red yoga balls, if you can vision that... I'm telling you that water is gross, dirty, yuck! I had leaves in my top when I got home, ha! I agree about the roads, I hope I don't hit any major pot holes and get a flat, but we can't concentrate on the things we have no control over, whhewww its hard to get those thoughts outa your head!
Jessie btw
I'm thinking that our race numbers have something to do with how and when we signed up and our wave numbers have something to do with our age. Or....maybe you're right and it's the other way around. What do I know, it's my first one too!
Those big balls are the things we swim around....grosse, leaves. Great...yet another reason to go for the lake michigan stuff rather than this one. Remember for the future!
Have a great pre-race course sign in tomorrow! Hope to see you around that big event, but let's post our finals here!
GOOD LUCK!
~Cat
Best of luck...
That was fun!
11 on the swim
almost 6 on trans 1
48 on the bike (lost my gatoraide bottle near the end of the first lap and so I stopped on the second lap to pick it up....I was really thirsty!.....couple of the girls trailing me were like...'you okay?'....yeppers, just need my bottle and yes, I did drink it after I picked it back up! LOL!).
2.20 on Trans 2
33 on the walk/run it in! ROFL! Seriously.....do not eat gu without a full bottle of water on the bike before the run. I was cramped up the first 1 1/2 miles and walked most of the way......did the runner shuffle the rest of the way! LOL! Strong finish though!
FUN!
Hano...how'd you do?
