Barefoot Runners

Thought this was an interesting article....

(hopefully the link works, I have no idea how to do it!)

Has anyone ever run barefoot before?

Re: Barefoot Runners
Not for me, thank you. Too much stuff on the ground that I don't want to find in my feet. Did you see the news article recently about the things they found on the soles of shoes (bacteria, etc.)?

Re: Barefoot Runners

My last two barefoot runs were:

1. On a beach and ending with a broken shell stuck between my first and second metatarsal heads

2. On wet artificial turf doing windsprints, a little slick but much better than run1.

Re: Barefoot Runners
I think a bunch of people saw a guy running the MCM last year with no shoes on. I can barely walk in my yard without shoes on, I'm not going to attempt the pounding of running! LMAO

I ran right beside him til Mile 20ish. It definitely gave me something to focus on. I remember being REALLY grossed out when we ran through all of the used oranges dumped in the road somewhere around the Kennedy Center. NASTY.

I, too, like the cushioning of my kayanos way too much to go barefoot, and yes, I saw that piece on tv on what they find on soles of your shoes, dirtier than toilets.

From the Big Sur Marathon... This guy didn't only run the entire race barefoot, including that 2 mile, 550 foot hill between 10 and 12 miles, but he did it backwards.

Re: Barefoot Runners
I would not necessarily be against it. The last time I ran barefoot was the day after RNR San Diego. I went what I plaaned on being a short half mile to loosen the legs that turned into a 2 miles out and 2 miles back beach run. I wnded up with some good blisters on the sole of one of my feet. Again if you buiolt up the tolerance to it and could trust the terrain then I would say go for it.

As in all things something to kill you! J/K I had to look up that acronym and the superbug (mursa) is no joke. Thanks for sharing so that I am aware of things that I might not have been aware of otherwise.

That's why the Stanley Steemer co. runs those commercials! "Once a year may not be enough" That makes me want to tell my husband to get up and mop the floors. Yuck!
