Point system project

Its time to tweak our status system and I'm looking for your help. Currently, one can earn points by posting a thread or replying in the message boards, creating a document or creating a blog post.

Here are the point break downs for actions in the community:

Posting or responding to forum threads: 5

Correctly answered forum thread questions: 10

Helpful responses to forum thread questions: 7

Creating new wiki documents: 5

Creating new blog posts: 5

By participating in the community and accumulating points, your status level currently displays in accordance to this scale:

We're Not Worthy= 10,000+

Legend= 1,000 - 9,999

Pro= 300 - 999

Expert= 200 - 299

Amateur= 40 - 199

Rookie= 0 - 39

I'd like to change the names of the status level primarily, but these following questions also come to mind:

1) What, if any, additional actions should get rewarded (upload avatar, etc)?

2) How many points should each get?

3) What should the range between point levels be?

4) How many levels should there be (we can add as many as we want)

5) Should we rename the levels? If so, how?

6) Should we add different icons?

I think perhaps a bronze, silver, gold theme with these icons:

Or stick with the stars?

Please note that there are also Team Sports forums on Active.

    Personally, I think you should change "we're not worthy" to "Len."

    But that's just me. And people outside the forum might not appreciate the humour or the reference.

    I think thats pretty cool.  You could give a point or two for any personal information they add to their profile. Like the large picture, or when they fill out background information.  Stuff like that.  Anything that gives them a more complete profile. Maybe you get 10 points as a reward for completeing all sections of your profile.

    I think that threads that earn a large number of replys should get something like 5 points for every x amount of replies....... and the LEN idea is great

    Toby, it seems like there are two types of posters on Active... those that post regularly and have hundreds of posts, and those that lurk and maybe post a dozen times. The problem is, I think that those two profiles need different incentives/rewards. So maybe a newbie who starts a blog gets a ton of points, but people here who are friends and get tangential don't need the points as much. Considering the type and frequency of posting this community does and only one person has made "we're not worthy" status, the points system in place may be too high for the non-MCM Active poster.

    I do like the point above where popular threads/blogs/documents are rewarded.

    In Active's eyes, what is the purpose of the points system?

    I do today what you won't, so tomorrow I do what you can't.

    I think people who do post after post all by themselves in an attempt to alleviate boredom at work should be awared many many points and a cash prize. And this should be retroactive. Thank you.

    I'm far too modest to say.

    Re: Point system project

    I think the point system is a fun idea, but if you make it too competitive people start doing dumb things. I think the spread of 1000 - 9999 is too big. Maybe break it at 5000.

    Rookie 0 - 199

    Amateur 200 - 499

    Veteran 500 - 999

    Expert 1000 - 4999

    Pro 5000 - 9999

    "Whatever" 10000 - 24999

    "Whatever II" 25,000 +

    I didn't think any of us would get to 10000 this soon but there are several within spitting distance (how did BAM! stay ahead of T u r t l e ?) I like your icons but what is the difference between single bling and double bling? I'd have to think about what else should get points.

    "Len" (not a points level)

    Len
