Re: Introduce Yourself (please)

Hello:)

My name is Jennifer...I am 35 and a mom to two boys:) I am divorced and have Rheumatoid Arthritis. I have never run in my life besides the mandatory gym class. I decided to undertake this challange for myself...in order to accomplish something I never thought I could, to run for a cause (I am training to run in the Arthritis Walk/Run next year) and to show my boys that anyone can accomplish anything with dedication, persaverence and commitment. I am looking forward to this site. I have been lurking around for a week now and I finally jumped in and started my C25k this Sat:) I was really proud of myself. Today will be my second day of week 1:) Looking forward to getting to know everyone here.

Re: Introduce Yourself (please)

Hi Everybody,

My name is Tina and I am currently in week 3 of the C25K. I found this website by accident, and thought it was really cool with useful info. I am 37 years old and have wanted to be a runner for several months now. So-I just decided to start and I love it! Sometimes I think I'm going to die while trying to do the runs, but I'm hanging in there. I have never been athletic. Only this past January did I join a gym and begin to exercise regularly.

I do have a question about the program, though. It says to do the sessions a few times each week. Is there anything wrong with doing the sessions 6 times a week?

Re: Introduce Yourself (please)

Hi Tina,

One of the more important components of C25K is your off days. You need these for your muscles to recover, even if you're not feeling particularly sore. I would go with an every-other-day schedule. Cross-training (biking, swimming, etc) on the days in between your runs is helpful, but I wouldn't run for 6 days/week just yet.

Re: Introduce Yourself (please)
Hey all, I'm Chad a 34 yr old single person and I live in North Carolina. I ran a lot in high school track and cross country all 4 years then ran off and on the next several years taking a year off and then run a few months kind of thing. I started dedicating running last year then got injured for 3 months (thanks roots on trials) was training for a half marathon. Now back on track to do one in October. I'm glad to see all the new runners and yes you will see how enjoyable it is when you want to just stop running during a work-out and you keep going although all your body is telling you to stop and then you finish. One of the best feelings there is. Nice to meet you all and good luck in however you wish to use running whether it be for sport or recreational. Chad

Re: Introduce Yourself (please)
Hi! My name is Kristin and I live in Virginia. I am 34 and very new to running.... or any type of exercise, really. I am on week 2 of the couch to 5k program and I am just proud that I haven't quit yet! Please tell me it gets easier! Of course, I also selected July (HOT) to begin....Since I can barely manage to get to work on time (I teach school and for some odd reason, summer school starts EARLIER!), I have to wait until the evenings to jog/walk since the middle of the day is oven-like outside. I am doing this just to get into shape. If I lose weight, great, but I would really like to tone up a little. I don't mind being overweight as long as it is a toned overweight :p Plus, I don't want to stress myself out by watching my weight (so far, I am up 1.5 lbs since I started this - yay, me!). My sister said it was muscle since I have actually been eating better. I have been trying to get my dog to go with me, but she only makes it but so far. Tonight as we passed the house I had to drop her off - there goes my exercise buddy. My high school gym teacher would be so proud of me now (I got yelled at a lot.....)

Re: Introduce Yourself (please)
Hi, my name is Debbie, and I am from Louisiana. I just happened to read a article in Self Magazine about losing weight and this woman just started to walk/run and it helped her lose weight as did eating healthy. It gave three web sites to look up and by far this was the best one for me, it seemed. I have never been a runner or athlete of any kind. So here I am and I am gonna do this for SELF, so any encouragement I can get will be appreciated. I am on wk 2 , I finished day 1 today and I was surprised I made it and it does feel good knowing I have ran some, (thats alot for me) So thanks for all the good advice, keep it coming!!!!

Re: Introduce Yourself (please)

Hi all, I'm 58 from Southeast Ohio and in graphic design. I was a runner 20 yrs ago and miss being motivated to get outside and enjoy nature in whatever form it presented itself on any given day. I'm currently using the C25K podcasts to get it back. The poscasts are a real help and as I think back to hefting that old Sony Walkman around the course with me in my previous running life, I am grateful for the improvements in the technical end of things! I think shoes have improved a lot as well. I'm doing ok keeping up with week one and hope I'll be able to make the transition to week two fairly smoothly. It sure helps me to read how others are responding to early training sessions. Sure would like to hear from some other oldies out there who are pounding the pavement!

Re: Introduce Yourself (please)

Hi! My name is Kevin and I'm 34 years old. I've been running off and on for about 5 years. I am working my way back through the C25K program for the second time. I moved to Georgia from Philadelphia 2 years ago with my wife and 4 kiddos. Before moving, I was running regularly in 5Ks in the Philadelphia area, but work and family pressures had put a stop to it until recently. I'm looking forward to getting back into shape and running in some local races in the fall. Anyone know of any good races in and around Atlanta?

Thanks!
Kevin

Re: Introduce Yourself (please)
Nice to meet you all!

My name is Ronda and I live in Phoenix, AZ. I'm 39 (really) and I work as a product manager. When I turned 39 I think I finally realized that I'm the only person who can help me feel better, relieve my stress, and help me lose weight (DUH) ,so I've set a goal to get to my ideal weight (-30 pounds) by my 40th birthday.

I have a past history with running - we go waaaaaaaaaaaaay back. I used to run competitively about 20 years ago - HS and college - and despite getting burned out and hurt much of the time, I really did enjoy it. So I think running is going to be my best tool for getting myself into shape.

I think my biggest challenge is going to be that I'm an overwieght couch potato with a vividmemory of how fast I USED to run, and how effortless it CAN feel when you're actually in shape. Those were the good ol' days... (sigh)

I just signed up on this site tonight with the intention of starting my first day tomorrow. (Luckily my job has me on the east coast for my first week, so I'll get a small break from the heat!)

Re: Introduce Yourself (please)
Hi all. I'm Andy from southeast Missouri. I'm 32, almost 33 with a wife and 2 kids. Several (10+) years ago I used to run a couple miles every other day to stay in shape and enjoyed it. After getting married and having kids it became hard to find time for excercise. About a year ago I started some occasional bike riding and trying to get back in the habit of some kind of regular excercise. This spring, after a hernia surgery, I decided to get more serious about doing something. I began running again as it was easier on my body after the surgery. I thoroughly enjoy running now. I'm probably borderline addicted to it. I feel great and have more energy after running. My biggest hurdle at the moment is shin splints. I've been taking it somewhat easy for that reason. I've been stretching more and planning to buy a different style of running shoe to see if it helps. A 3 mile light run is doable now and I hope to be up to at least 5 by fall, hopefully more. I found this sight about a week ago and it has been a real blessing because of all the info. Thanks to all who participate.

Re: Introduce Yourself (please)

Hi, I am a mom of three (4y, 2y and 5month), and have just finished week nine! For anyone who has doubted they could do it, I say go for it. I have all the excuses in the book. I am nursing my baby, up at night, tired, overweight , out of shape, and have found running to be one of the most enjoyable and rewarding experiences. Ok, not really running yet, more of a slow jog. But I could barely do 30 sec at the beginning, and my legs and knees hurt for the first two weeks. Now I can do 30 min and still move and breathe afterwards. Keep up the good work everyone!

Re: Introduce Yourself (please)

Hello Runners!!! My name is Stephanie and I'm a 38 yr old mother of a 15 yr old daughter. I'm an Executive Assistant to the President of a sport equipment/active lifestyle company. Most people I work with are uber-athletes, tri-athletes and professional runners/bicyclists, I'm just a schlepy secretary who did not fit in. My running life began on a dare from my boss who offered to pay me $50.00 if I ran a 5K, $100 for a 10K, $200 for a 1/2 and $500 for a marathon and $1000 for a triathelon. So far I've collected $150.00!! I'm a terrible runner but I try and do my best. So far I've run in about five 5K's and one 10K. My goal is to eventually run a 1/2, I just started hitting the training really hard three weeks ago. We'll see what happens. I'll be thrilled to finish.

My DD is my inspiration. She has played soccer for 10 years, when she began high school she wanted to try track. She broke 4 school records in her freshman year (100m, 300m hurdles and 200m and the 55), she qualified and placed 4th at States in the 400m even after taking a hard fall and limp running into the finish line with a bloody leg and tears in her eyes. She taught me the meaning of determination and she taught me NEVER, NEVER, NEVER give up. I am truly blessed to have so much support and encouragement and Cool Running has been my on-line running bible.

Re: Introduce Yourself (please)
Hey all, My name is Jessica and I am a mother of 2 ( 10 yrs and 3 yrs) I am a Licensed Massage Therapist in Tennessee. I have never been a runner and took forever to put on my tennis shoes and walk out the front door! I did it though and lived through my first run although I was supposed to go for my second run today but I am sick. I actually think I am detoxing which is a good thing. Trying to cut out sodas (Dr. Pepper-my vice) and eat better also! So I'm giving myself a day and back to it tomorrow! I was so happy to find this site and this program. It has given me all the motivation and encouragement I needed to get going, so thanks a bunch! I'm working towards a 5K in October! It is so exciting to hear about everyone at different levels of training working towards the same goal! Thanks for being so welcoming! The cool thing about this is my 10 yr old is doing it with me. He wants to beat me in a race sometime! I said "bring it on"! If that gets him out from in front of the video games and TV, he can beat me anyday!
