Achilles tendon pain


I recently have developed pain in my right Achilles tendon where the tendon attaches to the bone. The morning after a run the tendon is so tight I need to walk on it for 5-10 minutes to loosen it up and forget running for at least 1 hour. This also flares up for the first 1-2 miles of any run and has really decreased my pace and mileage per week (8:40/mile to 9:15 and 35mi/wk to 15/wk). I have tried rest x 1 week and Ibuprofen which really has not helped all that much. Is there anyone who has experienced this pain and what remedies have helped for you?  All feedback I really appreciate!

    Do you do any stretching?  That would certainly help.  The "wall pushup" is a typical stretch for the calf and achilles.  Stretch very carefully since it is already sore.

    Hi Scot,



    I have the same problem I play a lot of 5 a side football and wake up with sore achillies the morning after, again 5-10 minutes for the pain to go away and no chance for an early morning jog.



    When I mentioned this to a nurse she said that achillies injuries are very specialist and that I should see a sports physio to get to the route of it.



    I use the wall strech before and after every game and I still get the problem.



    Let me know if you find anything out, as will I.
