Hey everyone. I'm new to this forum. I'm training for my first Hm on ocotber 4th. Spicegeek saw my post on another forum and directed me over here :).
here is my post from earlier today...I've been running for 3 years "seriously" now and have run a few 5Ks.
But this will be my first HM. I've been upping the distance of my
weekly long run and decided to try a HM. I've gone to a 3 day a week
running schedule and it seems to be working better for my body and the
previous schedule I used of 4 days a week. I feel that I recover better
only doing 3 days a week.
As for my question...I usually run 5-7 miles on one run, a shorter
faster run on my second, and then the long run on my 3rd run of the
week. My long runs the past few Saturdays have gone 9, 10, and 11 miles
(in 1:40 fwiw). I plan on upping my distance on Saturdays by about 8-10
minutes per run over the next 2-3 weeks. That would take me to about
September 20th. With the race happening on October 4th how should I
attack the last week or training and the week of the race? I've heard
about tapering but really don't know how to go about it. Should I train
normally the week before the race? How should I go about tapering?
I have many questions as the HM approaches. I'll post in this thread from here on out. I'll be running an easy 5 or so miles tomorrow to help recover from yesterday. My calves are a little tight/sore. My goal is to break 2 hours in the HM.
