Re: C25K start 9/7/08...anyone else with me! ? :)

Great job Chris!!  It is very hard to be motivated when you don't feel 100%.  I couldn't believe Ashley did it with a cold!  Well, thanks for starting this thread, this is going to be really helpful.  I will be excited when we have other things to report, such as weight loss and getting into our favorite jeans, or maybe for me being able to do the 60 seconds without a near death experience!

Welcome Amanda!!  You're not behind. We all just started.  Welcome to our group.  You and I have a lot in common.  I also just lost my job and have three kids and using this time to finish school and get healthy!  I weighed 160 pounds at 5'6.  Which wasnt very bad except that my fat percentage was insanely high.  I keep all my fat on my belly which makes me look pregnant.  I lost down to 140 then I started working out a lot and now am down to 130 but still have pudgy belly.  I am really hoping all the running will cut the fat so to speak. After that goal is complete then i want to build big huge muscles lol..  Btw starting your own business is great!  If you need any advice let me know..I am in finance/taxes/business admin etc....

Congratulations to Chris and Ashley!  Keep up the good work.  I am really worried about the later weeks when we have to run longer and I also smoke...I know bad...And yes I am going to quit.

This is really fun..Thanks for being here!

Thanks Lisa!  I am really excited about this forum!  BTW... I smoke too.  I was NEVER going to admit that on here, but since you did, I will join you in the confession!  Women like us have to stand up together!  lol  I know that is why I had such a hard time with the run today.  Maybe once we both get a little further into this, we could be accountability partners for that too.  I have smoked forever it seems like, since around age 16, only quitting for pregnancy.

Thank again for the encouragement, I look forward to getting to know everyone on here through our shared success!

Re: C25K start 9/7/08...anyone else with me! ? :)

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to share my long-term goal... that is, to run a "sprint" traithlon next August (the one my town puts on).... it's 1/2 mile swim, 5k run, and 17 mile bike ride (I think). I figure if the C25K can get me to a 30 minute 5k in this many weeks, maybe that's not toooo crazy of a goal. Have I lost my mind? I'm a good swimmer but a little afraid of long bike rides (falling off and cars are frightening aspects). I work with a triathlete and also a woman who has her master's in phys ed... so hopefully I can look at them and dream of being a skinny athlete someday too!!!!!

My husband quit smoking in June (I didn't know he was doing it, it was only at work) and he's a wonderful man to live with now. HAHA! I don't think it would have been so bad if he weren't going all night and all weekend without a cigarette while being addicted... lol... so more power to you girls who are taking the healthy option of running! Whoo hoo!

Hi!  I am starting the program today!  I have been trying to figure out a way to build up to a 5K and so far can't get past 1/2 mile of running.  I am so excited to try this out.  I am still going to start with week 1 day 1 so that I can build up.  I look forward to following everyone sucess!!

Welcome Faith!

Amanda, I figure once my body is healthy then I am not going to want to smoke.  I already am getting to the point that I dont want to but just cant seem to let go.  I too have been smoking since I was a young teen.  i tried two other times to quit.  You and I can be accountability partners for that too but I am not telling my family.  its too much pressure.  its something I have to do on my own..I hope that makes sense.  Plus i would love the surprise...."mom, what happened?  I haven't seen you smoke in forever!"  That would be fun.  i dont want them to see me fail again.

Ashley, the banana thing really works.  I ate one before the 5 k and I wasn't half as sore as I was in the first one.  It really helps keep down the lactic acid buildup.

Good Luck everyone!

Re: C25K start 9/7/08...anyone else with me! ? :)

So I made it out for day 1 last night!  Not too bad.  I am not used to doing the run walk thing and I think that watching how long I was running was great.  I thought only about the cycle I was in, like "okay, you have 30 more seconds, 15 more seconds, etc." instead of thinking about how many minutes total I would run.  I think breaking it down into little segments make a huge difference in my ability to get more accomplished.  I was a little sore afterwards (I am having a weird tight muscle underneath my calf muscle) but nothing that would keep me from going back out tonight!

BTW- I am 29 years old, I joined weight watchers in March and have since lost 40 + pounds.  This is the first time since college I have attempted to run and I am just so excited to be out there.  I can't wait to get to my next run :)!  Have a great day everyone!

Re: C25K start 9/7/08...anyone else with me! ? :)

I have lost my ever-lovin mind!

I started this on 9/9/08.  Somehow managed to finish without dying.  Tonight is W1D2 and I wouldn't be surprised if my quads just totally give out on my first jogging stride.  Maybe I should wear gloves. LOL

Hi.  I'm Glenn, Male, 47, 225.  I did some jogging a couple of years ago and then used some pain in one knee as an excuse to take a small break.  Two years is small, right?  So now I'm back and reading and determined to avoid the injuries and just DO this.

I'll report back later, presuming that I'm not in the emergency room.

Two years is only a small break :)!  I made it out for day 2.... not as much fun as day one, but man does it feel good when you finish.  I really feel like I have accomplished something by just making it through those one minute runs!  I am wondering if I will be able to do next weeks workouts though, seems like more than a minute would be hard, but I guess only time will tell.  Hope everyone has a great weekend.  GO DAWGS !!!!!

Re: C25K start 9/7/08...anyone else with me! ? :)

I too started on 09/07. My name is Reggie and my goal in this is to lose some weight. I have always hated running and hopefully that mindset will change as well. So far I have completed W1D2. I was supposed to do D3 yesterday but had too many interruptions to get it done. I WILL get it done today. So far my sessions have been indoors on a treadmill but I am hoping to move them outside if the weather will cooperate. Good Luck everyone!

Re: C25K start 9/7/08...anyone else with me! ? :)

Hi everyone! I started the program on September 6th! I thought I could join in... so far I am loving it.

I am 23 and was very active in my teen years, though the last few years I've found it hard to stick to anything. Though now, I am finding running to be a bit addictive! I signed myself up for a 5k at the end of October so I really have a goal to work towards.

I also want to mention that I have IBS and asthma.. I was worried about starting a new exercise routine. I consulted my doctor and she gave me the OK. I have found the program so far has really helped with both of my problems - my husband even commented last night that he hasn't heard me complain about my stomach at all lately. It is nice to see results so fast.

The only thing is.. I know we are only supposed to do this 3 times a week, but I find my cardio is coming back in shape very fast, and as I mentioned I am getting quite addicted to running. So far I've done 5 runs since Saturday (it is Friday today).. on Tuesday I did some light work on my abs and arms. I scheduled Friday (today) as a complete "off day" but I find myself itching to get home and go for a run tonight. Do you think it is okay to be exercising this much? I am not very sore... in fact, I feel quite refreshed after a run. Any advice is appreciated.

Re: C25K start 9/7/08...anyone else with me! ? :)

Hey Chris & other fellow ex-potatoes,

I just celebrated my 28th birthday and realized not only did I need to upgrade my moisturizer but I also needed to shed some lbs and get my arse in shape. I've been gradually picking up extra weight in the past few years and have the usually have the upmost confidence but I've noticed lately that I'm just not feelin it so, i decided to join weight watchers 9/3/08.  I'm 5'3 and to my suprise weighed in at a hefty 186...I couldn't believe it. That's it....next day I was looking for ANY way to get me back in to those size 6 (maybe 4) jeans!!! Though I have NEVER thought that running would be the answer, I'm finding myself extremely motivated to the point of obsession over this newly found program. Mind you, I just started 9/9/08 on the C2k but I'm also going for walks and I even  jog here and there on my days off. I've excercised 5 times so far this week vs. my normal 0! My completion date is 11/11/08 and I'm registering for a 5k 11/23/08! Can't believe I even just typed that!

It's a pleasure to meet all of you and I'm going to continue to post my progress for motivation for myself. Thanks for listening...reading....

Re: C25K start 9/7/08...anyone else with me! ? :)

I started week 2 yesterday, and it was surprisingly easy. I was a bit worried about the intervals, but 2 minutes gives you plenty of time to get ready for the next one. Here's hoping this week flies by... week 3 looks like a real challenge!
