X ray says small heel spur. I have tried orthodics, antiflammatory pills and ice. Marathon in 6 weeks. My recent runs have been stopped short because of pain, any recommendations for easing pain to get thru more training and 26.2 miles? I got two 20 milers under my belt, not worried about distance, want to ease pain.
Heel spurs are a bit of a distraction. There was a study which radiographed 100 subjects none of them with heel pain, 35 had horrible looking heel spurs.
It does not sound like you have not tried a "night splint", yet. Take a look at Heel Pain Treatment Using Night Splints.

BTW, I'm assuming that the heel spur really is the problem, rather than plantar fasciitis (http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_5/191.shtml#plantar).
