I cannot remember the brand of my latest favorite (I know it by sight) but it's a Riesling Spätlese.

I'm partial to cabs, here are some of my current faves.

Miner Oracle
Silver Oak
Stag's Leap Artemis
Joseph Phelps

I usually don't buy these by the case though. Just a bottle now and then.

Bogle "Phantom"

from their website:
The black magic is back?Phantom. Three unique varietals combine lush berry and fierce spice into a full-bodied wine. Intensely fruit forward on the entry, this deep ruby apparition begins with aromas of blueberries, violets and chocolate-covered cherries, dusted with touches of black pepper. From the deep dark depths, subtle notes of spice, clove and mocha emerge and compliment the concentrated fruit characters of this wine. Aging for two years in 1, 2 and 3 year-old American oak barrels has yielded a vexing array of toasty oak aromas to Phantom. Though this wine is remarkable now, age in the bottle will only integrate the three distinct varietals more. Welcome the winery ghost into your home again with this latest vintage, and enjoy with full-flavored and hearty meals?before it vanishes again.

Petite Sirah 54% - Zinfandel 43% - Mourvèdre 3%

I had it at a tasting at my buddy's store and bought a couple bottles that my wife and I promptly drank. Went back a few days later for more....sold out.

We've also been drinking a lot of Malbec that he turned us on to, but I can't remember the specific vintner.

Ravenswood Merlot and Sterling Sauvignon Blanc are essential.

We're here to party, man!

Actually, I recommend the Merlot by Provenance. I like it even better than their Cab. It runs around $35 a bottle, but worth every penny.

Lillet is always good. Make sure you get a few bottles of bubbly...for breakfast in bed.

I'm no big expert although I'm in a wine club, just means I get a case of 12 bottles (2 each of 6 different wines) every 4 months. It can be red, white or mixed - I prefer red so tend to stick with that and buy an extra 2-3 bottles a month, I also buy the odd bottle of white once in a while.

Some of what I've noticed from the cases over the last few years is that:

1. All Argentinian Malbec is good.
2. Nearly All Spanish Tempranillo and Rioja is good.
3. Pretty much all Chilean reds are good.
4. Ditto Australian although tend to be strong.
5. French are 50/50 good or not so good.
6. Some Italian wine is surprisingly excellent.
7. I don't really like South African Pinotage.
8. American wine sucks.

In this context, I once came across the expression "big-bollocked Australian".
