And this is different from any other day how?
Mostly just that it's the 15th of November.

well cr@p, I thought it was the next weekend. I'm out, unfortunately...I'm moving into my house that weekend.
But if there is a dinner friday night, let me know and I will still try to head up if I can.
MCM Finisher 2007, 2008
CMM Finisher 2008
Goofy Challenge Finisher 2009
Pittsburgh Marathon Finisher 2009
RnR Seattle Finisher 2009
I wasn't planning on being there on Friday. . . I was going to drive down Saturday morning so dinner is pretty much out for me.
The Philly Marathon website says the date to switch between races has passed, but I'm not sure if they're enforcing it or not. Two years ago, I switched from the half to the full at the expo. I wrote them on Thursday but haven't heard back, so I called today and left a message. If Philly will allow the switch at the expo, I'll almost definitely do the full at Richmond; if Philly decides to be strict, then I have to think (ugh).
Holly (in case you haven't switched yet), from Philly's voicemail message, it sounds like if you ask, you may still be able to switch to the half. The trick for me is I wouldn't know until a day or two before.
Jerry, when are you picking up your bib? (Thinking you may be in Richmond around dinner anyway.) Or did you yield to the idea of having someone pick it up for you?
Kara, Chris?, Jerry? - How does La Grotta (http://www.lagrottaristorante.com/) at 5:30 PM sound?
I found a hotel loop hole for Richmond, so I'm set for downtown for one night.
Not to be a buzzkiller, but there's no packet pickup on race day this year. I'd offer to get it for you, but I'm still on the fence about running this one.
I'm enticed by the idea of running the half. I still want that sub-2! I briefly thought about the marathon as redemption for MCM, but my heart's not in it to run a full again so soon. If I bombed MCM, why would I be much better at Richmond on 3 weeks' recovery? However, I think a half could be a doable goal. I'm running a 5K next Sunday (the 9th) with my son, and that will be my test. If I can run that at my full potential, then I'll sign up for the half, otherwise I don't want to waste the money. If I pass on it, I'm going to focus on the Shamrock Half-Marathon in March.
Kyle -- Richmond is FASTER than MCM. Jimmy ran a PR there last year after running MCM. He never runs fast at MCM (anyone see his time THIS year?) ![]()
Craig -- I haven't decided which route I'm going with the packet. I have a couple of offers to pick it up early but then people would see my driver's license and realize I might not be 39. . .
If I drive down to Richmond it would LIKELY not be Friday night (have you seen I-95 on a Friday evening?!?!) So that would mean Thursday. And if it were Friday, 5:30 wouldn't work because I probably wouldn't be in Richmond until 6:00 at which point I'd be going to the expo to get my packet. I'll know more in the next couple of days.
Gotta admit, Richmond is faster for me than MCM. Last year I ran a 4:45, compared to 4:52 this year at MCM. It's crazy, Richmond last year was my first marathon and I ran it almost perfectly (pace-wise) for the condition I was in at the time, with a 2:21 first half and a 2:24 second half. At MCM I was all set to blow Richmond out of the water as I crossed the half-way mark at 2:07. Then 3 miles later the leg cramps started. Eventually I no choice but to walk, it was so painful to run and I couldn't even get my calves to release so it looked like I was running in invisible high heels. Totally screwed it up. I guess I should have taken it slower and gotten more salt (I also think I might have been derailed by ibuprofen - I took it before the race and have never done that before - apparently it can monkey with your electrolyte balance).
Anyway, I know I have a faster marathon in me, but I just don't feel like I'll be recovered enough by next Saturday - plus I've got a bunch of other stuff to do that weekend before flying out of town Sunday for work. That's why I figure I'll just shoot for the half and be home by 10:30 Sat morning with some energy left to do whatever else I gotta do.
F' it. I'm in. Full marathon.
F' it, me too. In. Full. Just registered. ![]()
I thought this was the same as Philly? I'm confused.
Yal want a cheering squad?
Let's see -
- 10/12 Chicago
- 10-26 MCM
- 11/15 Richmond
- 11/23 Philly
You'll have to go further south for more I guess.
We've come this far and it's still the same,
Runnin' out here in the rain.
Just one more mile, if only you could fly.
(Apologies to T. Rush and J. Tempchin, for the paraphrase)
Richmond - Nov 15. Philly - Nov 23.
Give me a C!... Give an H!... oh he!l this is too long, yes please!
Did you save the yellow pom-poms?
You'll have to go further south for more I guess.
Yup, winter is trickier. Charlotte (the city, not the Omi) is the leading candidate for December. I'm still debating Disney in January.
I didn't have a yellow pom pom to begin with a had a big orange tub of candy! LOL

Charlotte? December? Oh . . . decisions, decisions... I only have a half and a 5 miler for December.
Isn't Disney just about full (or is it full?)
I dunno, but if they do transfers and you don't have one, you can have my registration Craig.
