Happy Sunday to all!!  Chuck your granddaughter is adorable. Very windy here today but still was able to get my 5mile run in this morning. My left knee is bothering alittle,planning to take tommorrow off from running hopefully it will  be better by tues.  Lorie

Hi ,Me again I just  was looking at hm  training programs. I have a ? I was on Hal Higdons Site. Theres a 12 week training the most he has you running is 3 or 4 days aweek and towards the end a max off 23 mi.  for the week.  Having Your last lon.g run be 10 mi 1 week before the race.  He has some programs you have to pay for, What is the difference? Is the first one I found ok to follow? I plan on starting the 12 week next Monday. Thanks Lorie

Hi Chuck, Thankyou for the information. Yes I'm just looking to finish its my first hm. but would like to pace  a 10 min mile.  But finishing is my first goal though!!!Lorie

hi all i ran 11.76 yesterday and  today. I felt great today and awful yesterday.  I am going to cut back to 40 miles max a week until next year. I am on pace for 2200 miles this year.   Maybe I need another hobby to go along with the running??? 

 

macd - Green Bay is the weekend of May 15-17th.  I am most likely going to run the full for that one. The mini - marathon looks like fun. 

 

misswendy - great run Sat.  Are you getting excited for the full? 

 

chuck - great picture of the granddaughter.   I think you are planning a trip out there soon?

 

massgirl - there are numerous plans at Runners World.

 

joe - glad to hear your had fun!!!  Did you see any others from this group?

Trained with my EC yesterday - who decided it was time to address the fact that my squat form sucks ( it really does ) I think I did about 200 squats of one form or other .. ok maybe not 200 ... but a lot !

 

Ran a 4 mile race today - very crowded - nearly 7000 runners so I didn`t even bother taking my watch or pushing my self at all - I still ended up with a sub 10mm finish - 39:23 - given as I wasn`t really trying, wasn`t really in the mood for the race and didn`t get enough sleep yesterday I guess I did pretty well

 

Chuck great news about your niece and her 5K - that is so great ! - I bey Uncle Chuck is a huge inspiration !!  And I love you punky grand daughter !! Her hair is awesome !!!! but she needs a little sex pistols t-shirt !!

 

misswendy - try that foot wheel - it may really help your foot - I have some of the other products from that site and they are great ! You will be AWESOME at your race !! My EC did give me a "will you please be careful" when I told him what I had done ! - it was a 25LB plate I dropped on my foot - not a kettlebell - amazingly enough I`ve missed my feet every time I dropped the kettle bells !

 

Lorie, macd + autumn good job on your runs !

 

Lorie - try Glucosamine and rolling out your IT band - both could help your  knee - I don`t know what Higdons paid program does over the one he has for free but I followed the free one for all my 3 halfs - and the last race I finished in 2:15 - and I didn`t do the optional 4th run - I did cross train like a crazy person - way more that he recommends - 4 -5 hours a week of biking, boxing or light weight hight rep kettle bell training - and I do 3 hours a week of hard weight training. I just started adding a 4th day a wel to my running and I run 1/4 intervals on that day - it works for me !

Spicegeek Thankyou for  the info. Ive been looking at a bunch of hm training programs. I think I'm going to try Hals . My goal is to just finish!  I also like to cross train ,so I thinks his program would  work  the best for me . Thanks Again! Also great job on your race!!!!  Lorie

Morning everyone,

 

 

Found a moment in my busy work schedule to drop you all a note, so thought i'd better grab it whilst I have the chance! I ran my long run Saturday and did 8.5 miles. It felt pretty good and I could have definitely gone longer so I think i'm just about back! This morning I did 6 miles at an easy 10:40 pace and it was a great run. A little cold out for my liking, but everything felt easy and I was strong throughout. I love those runs Tomorrow i'm going to try a little tempo or some intervals - probably 4 miles or so.

 

 

Runjr - some great runs! It seems you are back really quickly! Amazing total mileage too - you will have ran about 1000 miles more than me by the end of the year... I have mileage envy Really looking forward to seeing the pictures. Did they come out well? I'm always disappointed by official race photos... having said that I just realised I never checked mine from my last race! I would like to do a full next year, but not decided on which one - ideally Berlin but i'm still waiting for them to open entries and i've no idea how easy or hard it will be to get into so I may need to think again. I'm running a half 22nd Feb

 

 

Lorie - That 5 mile race is coming up fast... are you any tapering for it? Take it easy with that sore knee... it's better to have a few extra rest days than make it any worse. I also did Hal Higdon for my first HM - I had a couple of extra weeks so I actually went up to 12 miles, but it was a great plan for a first half and I did run it in sub 10mm pace... just

 

 

Erin - I never did get myself that foam roller!!! Did it do the job on the soreness? Hope you had a good 3 miles and rest day!

 

 

Spicegeek - are you ready for that vacation now? I know I would be Great job on that race - expecially seeing as you weren't even trying! I'm impressed.

 

 

Chuck - your niece did great on that race! It sounds like you are a family of runners... Love the photo of your granddaughter! Have you a trip planned now to visit and meet her?

 

 

Misswendy - great to hear you are back up to 16 miles! that must give you a load of confidence for your full? We know you can do it!!!  Are you still going for 4 hours or have you revised this? We will be proud of you for just running it!

 

 

Autumn - great cross training cleaning out that fridge. Fancy having a go at mine

 

 

Macd - I waited for you for ages before starting my run and you just didn't turn up... still you ran 0.4 further than me so it's a bit of luck Glad to hear you got a good run in - it feels good to get the distance back after a race!

 

 

Joe - how'd ya do????

Hey gang!!  We're back!  Taking the day off today.

 

Chuck - What a way to start the week, great photo of your granddaughter!  Thanks for sharing! 

 

The race was a lot of fun!  There we're 33,000 runners!  I was in corrall 19 of 33.  It was a wave start, so each corrall left about a 45-90 seconds after the previous one.   If I remember right the clock read about 33:00 by the time I crossed the start line! 

 

 

The bands were great although there were some stretches where there was no music at all.  Could have used my iPod!  lol  Temp was 35F when we left the hotel room to get to the bus shuttles taking us to the start.  By mile 2 I was getting warmed up!  There were lots of jackets, gloves, hats being tossed by wayside also.  I felt pretty good most of the way except around mile 8 when my left ankle started to hurt, I think I landed wrong on it as I had slowed down.  I skipped the first water stop but then walked through the others.  Around mile 9 when I started taking more walk breaks I noticed my Garmin had the Auto Pause feature still turned on!    I swear I had turned it off a couple days before!  Oh well, my goal was just to finish and it was looking I like would do so.  I just had to watch the ankle and make sure I didn't hurt it anymore whenver I slowed down to walk.  Towards the end (approaching mile 13) I saw a couple of people from my old KatyFit running group.  I made it my goal then to pass them up which I did!  When I crossed the finish line, the clock read around 3:3x so I knew I was close to my 3:00 finish time goal.  My official chip time was 2:54:21. 

 

 

After spending some time at the post race party, we spent some time with DW's sisters house before driving back home.

 

 

 

Unfortunately I didn't see anyone from our group, however I hope everyone had a great time!

Spicegeek, congratulations on your race too! I had forgotten you were racing this weekend. Great job for not really trying Now you can really start your vacation taper!

runjr, 2200 miles, seriously?!? Maybe you do need another hobby That is fabulous though, and you've kept yourself reasonably injury-free, I think--you da bomb.

 

 

Lorie, I sort of followed Higdon's novice program for my half, but I had a couple extra weeks so did several runs of 11 and 12 miles... which gave me peace of mind about being able to handle the distance. You'll make it with or without any longer runs. Good luck!

 

 

Cara, sounds like you are just about back to full form. Sorry you missed me Saturday Do you have any shorter races planned before your Feb half?

A little chilly here this morning29, wind chill 20but I'm starting to kind of enjoy that. I got in 4.6 before work this morning. I did some biking yesterday for the first time this month, and could really feel that in my legs on the run. Then I was reminded that the turkey trot is only 10 days away... time flies!
