Oh, there you are!!!
Where's everyone else: IR, MM, LT, etc.???
Are we gonna give it a better go than last year???
Let me tell you of a project I'm working on ... (you'd understand it 'cuz your were here for the Great Beer Thread of '03)
I have next year's book project on the board. It's Called "400 Beers"
"400 Beers???" Well, I've been working on a book called "The Iguana Chronicles: Tales of Love and Adventure in the Caribbean" This is essentially a memoir of our trip to St. Thomas which produced my daughter Mariel, with some pirate stories thrown in. "400 Beers" will be the sequel. It came out of a math exercise.
About a month ago, while on the stat bike on the gym, I started wondering how much I weighed when I was racing really, really, well (39:20 10K PR, 18:36 5K) I figured I've gained 10 pounds since then, most of it in the past 5 years. Ten pounds X 16 oz./pound X 28 grams/oz. (don't ask how I remembered that) X 9 calories per gram of fat yields 40,320 extra calories I've neglected to burn off. Divide by 100 calories per (light) beer and it's roughly 400 beers. Actually, it's 403.2 but I didn't think "403.2 Beers" had a good flow (so to speak) and I think I burned up the extra 3.2 while doing the math (I had to figure it right then, right there, on the bike, sans calculator)
The book is going to be one part reflection of how I gained the weight ... I have journals for Mariel's first couple years; one part journal of losing it again (maybe in the form of a training diary for the Philly Marathon or Timberman 1/2 Ironman or both); and one part bullsh!t stories - whatever I can come up with for filler ... poems, jokes, illustrations, etc.
I might even ressurrect some good passages from the Original Beer thread
