C25K starting 1/5/09

My wife and I both started the C25K program today and would like to find others that are starting this week as well. We are using the treadmills at our local YMCA during our lunch breaks to get our runs completed. I didn't find the the exercise to be too terribly taxing today but did have a problem with the muscles along the fronts of my shins tightening up. (mostly on one leg) I think this is a result to torn ligaments in my ankle from several years ago but don't know for sure.

Does anyone have any suggestions for stretches that I may have overlooked?

Thanks,

Jerry

Hi Jerry! I am also starting the program this afternoon. I plan on beginning on a treadmill, and running Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.

Here is a link that might help you out with your shins: http://walking.about.com/cs/medleg/ht/htshinsplints.htm

Looking forward to hearing about your progress. Good luck!

Hi, I also started yesterday. I had a hard time with breathing but made it. My husband is a Marine and will be running with me to help me. Hopefully I will stick with it. Good luck everyone.

Hi, I started yesterday as well. I was so sore last night that I had a really hard time sleeping. I will do day two tomorrow as the soreness is about gone today. Are you all listening to the podcasts while doing it?

I completed my first run last night! I am a little sore today, but looking forward to day 2 tomorrow. I got a new pair of running shoes which made a world of difference, and the podcast also was a huge help. It was so much easier to listen to the podcast rather than constantly having to look down at a watch or the timer on the treadmill, and the music was pretty good as well!

Good luck everyone :)

I Started 1/5 as well.

I stopped in Week 7 last winter (oct-dec 2007). I repeated some, and had some short weeks, so it was really about 12 good weeks of running. I was really proud of getting out there every week. I was proud of my progress, proud of my attitude. I thought I was proud of doing it without making myself fixate on the accomplishment.; but when I ended up letting it take so long that I bumped into Christmas obligations and got derailed, I was pretty disappointed. I could have used the accomplishment after all.

I lurked on these forums last time around and it really helped. I figure I'll post this time through.

I went faster than I meant to (for me) on Monday, thought that I felt great and felt strong... and now of course I've made myself sore for two days :8} . I'll run, hopefully slower, at lunch today and post a quick note.

Morning all, I did day two today, seemed a bit easier but I was really ready for it to be over! I do not think that I go more than about a mile and a half though, I assume as the weeks go by that the distance will become greater.

John, sounds like you did really well last year, it probably won't take as much for you to get back up there. Good luck on the soreness!

Thanks, Vickey. Today's run went great. Great afternoon for it, even though it had just rained for 2 straight days. Major props to whomever engineered the drainage system at the greenway (and surrounding pastures and woods/marshes) where I run. I've only one other time seen the creek so high and rushing so fast. Water was standing in huge pools on the other side of the path to eventually drain back into the creek, yet the path was mostly dry.

Good luck to anyone running this evening. Hope it went well for you and your wife, Jerry.

Hi group - I'm starting this week too. I've become a sloth lately and am most interested in improving my endurance. I have always wanted to "be a runner" but never have been able to keep up with it... now age 36 and trying again. Will be using the treadmill mostly and some outdoor on the school track near my house. Good luck everyone! ~ Lisa

Did day 2 this evening. I work days so I will be running at night. It was very windy and I felt slow tonight, but I'm so happy I did it. Didn't seem to be any easier though. Hopefully by next week it will seem easier. Good luck everyone.

I started yesterday, day two tomorrow morning!

My quad muscles are pretty sore today, hadn't been to the gym in quite a while due to being so busy with school and work.

I got new Nike Shox, which I love, and I found that the Nike + sport kit is a good motivator - being able to track my progress will really help me, I feel.

I started it yesterday and I can feel it in my calfs today. I will do day 2 tomorrow. I know I cheated a little with day one. I will try to avoid cheating tomorrow
