Coach Calls on 12 year old to teach lesson

Texas Tech coach Pat Knight used a 12 year old boy as an example after his red raiders missed about 15 lay ups during a recent game. During a team huddle, while the game was in progress, Knight pulled a 12 year old from the stands and and asked the 12 year old if he could make a lay up. The boy said yes so knight told his team if a 12 year old can do it why cant 18 to 21 year olds do it.
Is this a good strategy or bad coaching move?
i think it is a stupid coaching move. Of course the kids can make layups of else they would not be playing high division one basketball. I think he was trying to isend a message but it was just not the right one.
They get scholarships to make lay ups. I like the move. Light a little fire underneath these kids. Pull their head out of the backsides.

I dont like the tactic i would like to see the 12 year old make a layup against a 6'8 defender. If it was wide open layups that is one thing. There are just nights when the shots dont fall. You should know that first hand gerolz when your patent move is just not smooth enough
it has never let me down, but this must be a consistent problem if he had a take such drastic measures during a game.

I think mr. knight might have to look at himself in the mirror to prepare his team better. He cannot go to those measures to prove a point. I really wonder what the texas tech adminstration thought about his tactic.
Those Knights, following in the footsteps. I hope he throws a chair across the floor next time.
i guess the apple does not fall far from the tree with the knights
I think I like the Bobby Knight school of coaching. Light a fire under the kids, whether its throwing a chair, punting the basketball, choking a kid during a game, I think it all works.
I wonder why some kids wanted to play for Coach Knight. Considering how he coached and the antics he used. I would have never. Was he anything like coach k cherokee?
Thats funny because coach K was an assistant for Bobby knight at army. So coach K is a prodigee of Bobby and I know he hold Bobby in high regard. I think kids want to play for Knight because he is a winner, he was three national titles, more than that bum from Carolina Dead Smith.
yo yo Cherokee thats a low blow. I almost went to Carolina and possibly played for Dean Smith but he said i needed a smoother finger roll. I would never play for Knight he would get on my nerves.
I guess your smooth baby hook wasnt good enough for Coach Smith.
