I went on-line at all the sports stores and found all different head lamps, all different prices. So I'm wondering if you have one, if you like it, what are the pros and cons, and what's the best one to get. I do street running but might even venture into the woods if I could see better. And I hate running holding a flash light I think it disrupts my form. And goodness knows my form doesn not need anything more to disrupt it...
I have been using the Petzl Tikka XP with lithium batteries and have nothing but good things to say about it. I used it during the night portion of my first 100 miler in June, but note that I also use the Princeton Tec Impact XL hand-held flashlight at the same time--more important for night trail running than night road running. Let me know if you have any more questions
I bought a light weight, 3 LED head lamp at REI last spring. It takes 3 AAA batteries. My wife and I used it for the Texas Independence Relay in March, so that would be about 18 hours running. I also used it at the ET Midnight marathon last summer ~ 5.5 hours.
Head lamps are kind of strange to use. It feels odd on my head, but I sort of got used to it. I think a heavy one would bounce a lot. It definitely beats carrying a flashlight.
One problem is that when the batteries run out it goes off without warning. So if you're running a long trail run out in the boonies you might need to carry spares.
I have used it several times this winter because I want to run outside and there are no street lights for about a mile on part of my route. It has a pretty wide beam when all 3 LEDs are on. It has a flashing mode but I don't know what I would use it for.
I suggest buying it at REI. They are good about accepting returns so if you get one you don't like you can return it and try a different one.
I wore it on a camping trip and it was much more convenient than using a flashlight. Come to think of it, I should use it when I work on my car.
The brand is Black Diamond.

I like the[ Petzl Tikka Plus LED Headlamp|http://www.rei.com/product/751757] pretty well, but mostly just run in the dark. I did use the Tikka on my coast to coast bike trip and found it worked great in camp and on the road if we got caught out after dark. Good battery life, light weight and reasonable ouput were all pluses. I plan to try it for night trail running, but haven't yet.
I ended up get the petzl plus, I like it, very comfy. However I noticed the first battery does not sit in the cradle all that great so if I adjust the beam direction it goes off and I need to turn it on again. Luckly I do not need to adjust the direction once I'm moving. Overall it's great, no way I'd run without it again.
