Any recommendations out there for a quality LED head lamp intended for runners? Preferably one that also has a red LED. Thanks!

A similar question came up a few weeks ago over here.

Here's one with a red lens for night vision protection.

Clear skies!
There are trade-offs. The Energizer 6 LED headlight does OK for me, with two reds doing OK at a slower pace. The Myo XP Belt from Petzl, having the battery pack you can tuck inside your jacket on a cold night, holds up MUCH longer in cold weather, is powerful enough to make outrunning your beam unlikely even on a quicker run, but lacks a night vision/red/green LED currently. It's a little bulkier but with the bulk off your head. I picked up a cheap green LED headlight fitting under the bill of a cap recently, working fine for outside chores but so far untested on a run.

Hmmm... I have 2 uses for a headlamp: night running and stargazing. Considering that last Friday night I spent several hours stargazing in sub -10 F weather (yes, you're reading that right. Some people think I'm insane for running for hours and hours. Those who're close to me find the stargazing I do to be more insane - see my article from a couple years ago here, page 19: http://www.nightskyobserver.com/Photon/Download/Photon_Issue5.pdf ), holding up to cold weather is a very attractive feature. Does it hold up longer because of the type of battery pack it is or because the battery pack is not as cold when in your coat? We talked before about attaching our own red filters to a headlamp, so I'd consider that if the MYO XP doesn't have a red LED or filter. I assume the cord going from the lamp to the battery pack is not too much of a nuisance?
I've always used headlamps that have an extra strap that runs over the top of my head. Many of the lamps I'm considering don't have this. Will they hold their position well while running?

Ron ,my wife gave me a Lucido TX 1 for Christmas and I absolutely love it. No red lamp except for red lights in the back but two flood light settings and a spotlight that can be seen on Mars. It is rated #1 from Backpacking magazine. The down side is it is about $80.00. But I'll tell you It is great out there in the dark.
The 3 LED head lamp have from Black Diamond, Gizmo, doesn't have a red lens or LED. It works ok for running. With 3 LEDs on I can see the trail well. It only has one strap around the head and isn't too heavy. It feels strange at first but I got used to it quickly. It doesn't bounce much at all either. The only thing I don't like about it is that sometimes when I adjust the band tightness the lamp comes off of the headband. It is easy to put back on but I think it should stay on better. It was only about $20.
The Myo XP has the overhead strap. My Energizer tends to drift sideways a little when I run but so far has little up-down drift; others have had more problems. I think battery power with the Belt compared to a battery-on-the-headband light is MUCH improved in the cold by your ability to keep the pack out of the cold. The pack itself probably is no better insulated than most. The cord is a little weird at first but really no problem, at least when bundled up for cold weather. It might feel a lot stranger in warm weather.

I use the Energizer with success as well. When i wear a headlight i also wear a running hat. the brim shields my eyes from the ambient light eminating from the headlight and it makes quite a difference. I don't enjoy the headlamps and avoid if at all possible. I can get away without a headlamp around the full moon.
happy running!
