In August, I will be traveling from Tennessee to Washington for my first IronMan 70.3. All of my previous races have been local (driving distance) races, so this is my first time to fly and compete.
Do any seasoned athletes have suggestions on how far in advance I should travel? Are there certain rules to adhere to for top performance on race day?
Also, how is a lake north of Seattle going to feel at 6:30 AM in August?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
That sounds like fun!

The race site says to expect 70-degree water on race day. http://ironman.com/events/ironman70.3/lakestevens70.3
You can check in fri/sat and checkin your bike sat. When we've travelled for IM events, we arrive by thurs of race week and some hotels required 4 or 5-night stays.
It looks like a great venue! How is your training going?
