1 1/2 hours of boxing tonight -- sparring, pad work, etc. followed by 40 minute run.

Good morning everyone, happy Monday.  Just finished my 5m, overall 9:27 pace, and man it was tough.  You'd have thought I'd run a marathon.  Anyway, it's done, and I feel better now.

    Re: Monday Training!

I WENT FOR A RUN!!!!!!!!  And boy did it stink.  But that's okay!  I still got something done!

It was ugly, and it was painful, but I spent an hour on the treadmill.  You can tell how out of shape I am by my workout:

    Walked 5 mins

    Ran 10 mins

    Walked 3 mins

    Ran 10 mins

    Walked 3 mins

    Ran 10 mins

    Walked 4 mins

    Ran 5 mins

    Walked 5 mins

    Ran 5 mins

I managed to get in 4.75 miles in between all the walking.  Dear Lord.  Oh!  And I have new sneakers!  Today was the first run ever in Sauconys.

That's great Lauren.  You went for a run!  Yayyy!!

I recently switched to Saucony Eschelon from Nike Air Pegasus.  How do you like your Sauconys?  So far I like them, but we'll see how the hold up for the MCHH.

Thanks, Ruby!  I didn't run a single mile in April, so I was super excited!

Way to go, Lauren!  I've had good and bad shoes from most companies but never a bad Saucony.  Today was a slowly accelerating 5 miler, by far the best run since the marathon 9 days ago.

    Re: Monday Training!

    Ruby & Immer,

Ruby, I completely missed the last sentence of your post earlier.  Funnily enough, I have only ever run in the Pegasus until today as well.  I think we had this discussion before MCM 07.

I work in Georgetown now, so I stopped into the Running Company on M Street a few weeks ago.  The staff in there was GREAT.  I liked them much better than the people I've worked with in Metro Run & Walk and Pacers (no disrespect to anyone).  I think I've always gotten stuck with short distance track runners in both of those stores.  After watching me run in a pair of Pegasus, he thought I could use just a little more support and control.  The Sauconys felt great.  It was a little weird at first today, but it's the best I've felt "knee down" while running - EVER.  They come up a bit higher around the ankle than the Pegasus.  I tried on a pair of Brooks while I was there as well - YUCK.

Immer, thanks for the toe diagnosis earlier on.  I think you were right.  I couldn't do a thing with it for about three weeks.  It feels better now.  It's hard to rest anything when you're on your feet 8 hours a day for work.

    Did intervals today.

    2 x 1200

    1.  6:56 pace

    2.  7:10 pace

    4 x 800

    1.  7:19 pace

    2.  7:10 pace

    3.  7:17 pace

    4.  7:12 pace

I didn't think I would finish that last 1/2.  I kept under my target times, so I was pleased.  Still sore from the mountain on Saturday.

    Grace and peace,

    Mike

    Re: Monday Training!

    Hey all,

Not yet my "official" training schedule, but got out Monday for a run. Cool temps and rain, but still a good pace for me. Finished 6 miles in 49 minutes. Not bad for me. I'll get in another 3 midweek and then I am running a 10K trail race on saturday. It is bound to be sloppy after almost a week of wet weather. I have hiked that portion of the trail before and it is pretty packed dirt and not rocky. A couple of streams along the way will be interesting to cross. It will be my first trail race, though I have run along trails before.
